Wild About Seagrass with Dr Richard Lilley - S2 E13
In this episode we talk with Richard Lilley also known as RJ, who is passionate about education, particularly marine science communication and outdoor learning. He is interested in the role of seagrass meadows and is speaking to us as one of the founders of Project Seagrass. His work domestically is focussed on developing seagrass meadow restoration opportunities across Scotland and supporting restoration of seagrass throughout the UK, and further afield. RJ has over nine years experience of research in marine systems. He has primarily worked in the Caribbean and Mediterranean Seas and more recently the North Atlantic Ocean. We talk about seagrasses in the UK, but also globally. We cover what seagrass is, why we should care about seagrass for seagrasses sake, and some amazing projects involving local communities.

Wild About Tidal Energy with Andrea Copping - S2 E12
Hello, and welcome to the Wild About Conservation Podcast. In this episode we talk with Andrea Copping, a senior researcher for the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in the United States department of Energy and who is also a Fellow of the University of Washington. Her work focuses on marine renewable energy and offshore wind development - which is energy created by changes in the ocean - waves, tides, temperature and salinity. Andrea is a wonderful speaker and plays a lead role in marine renewable energy end applications that support Blue Economy development including ocean observations, aquaculture, and providing power to remote communities and islands. Keep listening to dive into this cutting edge science, and hopefully come out a little more informed. In this episode we mention COP26, which is an International Meeting to Discuss Global Action on Climate Change that (at time of recording) just closed in Glasgow, Scotland. We will be having an episode soon to chat about this in more detail.

Wild About Basking Sharks with Chelsea Gray - S2 E11
Hello and welcome back to the Wild About conservation Podcast. Join us this episode as we chat to Chelsea Gray, an Environmental Science and Policy PhD student at George Mason University. Her research focuses on using Individual Based Models for Basking Shark Behaviour and using those to inform relevant policy. Chelsea is an excellent communicator who explains what individual based models are, how policy is created, and how scientists like herself may better be able to inform policy using their research. This episode isn’t just about the models but all about basking sharks too. One key takeaway is that citizen science projects that capture species presence data are invaluable - if you spot a basking shark in Atlantic waters, you can report it here.
CW: We discuss 'historic population control' of basking sharks with some graphic language 34:00 - 36:00
