I have seen a lot of prayer requests on social media today. Most are prefaced by apologizing for asking. Please don't apologize for asking for prayer. As Christians it is the least that we can do for one another. If you have any prayer requests please let me know. It is an honor to pray for you.
This morning I was reflecting on Matthew 5:27-28 and it got me thinking about how we treat people in our culture. Are we treating people like objects? Whether it be an object of pleasure or disdain I think we have lost the point as a society of what it means to care for one another.
In this episode I go over three things to grow closer over the Lord over Lent. All are meant to continue when Lent is over. Make time for prayer, Eucharistic adoration, and go to confession regularly. You will grow in holiness, faithfulness, and charity.
It is hard to believe, but we don't know everything. To grow in faith we must be willing to learn from everyone. I had an experience like this recently and I am so glad I listened. If we are not open to correction, then we will not get better, and we will not grow in faith.
If you want to make any impact for the Lord it begins with being available. Are we available to those who are hurting, to answer questions, and to just be there for one in need? We can have all the head knowledge we want, but it means nothing if we are not allowing the Holy Spirit to utilize it.
In this episode I go briefly into the teachings of four church fathers. Did the early church believe that the Eucharist was the body and blood of Christ? I look at St, Ignatius of Antioch, St. Justin Martyr, St. Irenaeus, and St Augustine. The answer we come up with is YES!
Over the past couple weeks I have been reading and reflecting on Psalm 51, and it got me thinking about the sacrament of reconciliation. We all sin and need to seek God's mercy, but why is reconciliation a sacrament that appears to be underutilized? We should be going often. God's mercy is free.
If you want to be a good apologist then you must be willing to put some work in. Reading not only helps us deepen our relationship with God, but it helps forms our mind so we can make a better defense for the faith. In this episode I give a few resources, most free, to assist you deepening your knowledge of the faith and how to defend it.
Praying is essential in our relationship with God. Prayer is an essential disciple that we must develop if we want to evangelize and defend the faith. In this episode I go over a couple ways to do this. If you don't currently pray I challenge you to start with 5 minutes and move up from there.
In yesterday's episode I discussed some Bible translations that are good to use. In today's episode I piggy back on that a little and discuss ways that we can consume scripture. There are so many ways. We can read the Mass readings, listen to the Mass readings, read the Liturgy of the Hours, or simply open up the scriptures. If you are not reading scripture daily then I have a challenge for you. Find 5 minutes in your day. We can all easily find 5 minutes to deepen our relationship with our Lord.
In this episode I discuss some Bible translations that are approved for private use and liturgy. If you have any other suggestions I would like to know. I encourage you to find a translation that you will read daily. Being immersed in scripture is paramount to defending the faith.
Part of defending the truth is living what you believe. In this episode I talk about how my four children reminded me of this with an interaction after Mass yesterday. Thanks for listening and God bless you all.
This episode was supposed to debut on January 26th on KGMS radio in Tucson, but they pulled the show because they don't want a Catholic on their network. Please excuse me plugging the station. In this episode I cover Bible verses where Jesus did in fact claim to be divine, and briefly discuss some extrabiblical sources that discuss Jesus existing. Stay tuned because this show will have a short daily episode starting January 27th.
Defending Truth will debut on January 26th wherever you listen to your favorite podcasts. The show airs on 7:45am Sunday mornings on 940am KGMS in Tucson, AZ starting January 26th. Join me every week as I give you some tools to help you defend the truths of the Christian faith.
