Organ donation and Social work (Feat. LOPA)
In this episode of the Joy in the Journey podcast we welcome Sara Blakemore from the Louisiana Organ procurement Agency (LOPA). Sara not only has a personal connection to organ/tissue donation but also has a passion for serving families in crisis. As a family advocate with LOPA, Sara works directly with families experiencing loss to help inform them about options for organ, tissue and eye donation.
At the core of her work, Sara believes that everyone experiences grief in a different way, and it is ultimately up to her to make sure that families in crisis are seen, heard and valued. We at the Joy in the Journey podcast are truly blessed to have Sara on the program as we talk about the social worker’s role in the organ donation setting, grief and mental health. If you want to learn more about the incredible work being done at LOPA visit www.lopa.org/. If you want to learn more about your options for organ, eye and tissue donation check out Donate Life America by visiting their website www.donatelife.net/. As a reminder, you can always register to make an impact and be an organ/tissue donor at registerme.org/. No matter what, we challenge you to go out and do something today to make an impact. Whether that is making an impact in your family, making an impact in your community or making an impact in your world.
