Blanche on Strong Momma Fitness & Pregnancy- Episode #155 (re-release)

Blanche on Strong Momma Fitness & Pregnancy- Episode #155 (re-release)

In this episode, Andrew is joined by Blanche of Rooted Strength Coaching. They have a great conversation about fitness, faith, and motherhood.
About Blanche
The name is Blanche, B for short.
Fitness professional | boy mom | enneagram 8 | latte enthusiast | lover of a good workout and being outside.

I’m intensively driven by my values and that is one of the main reasons I started my own business. 💁🏼‍♀️

Growth is one of my primary values. I’ve been on a 5+ year journey of learning what true growth looks like and spoiler it’s more about the root system than any visible fruit.

Advocacy is another one and empowering my clients, friends and family to grow in self-advocacy is what I LIVE FOR.

Ask the questions - do the research - then act.

I’m more interested in seeing you move well 5-10 years from now. Squatting 200lb+ is cool and all but what’s more impressive is squatting that much 10 years later.

Finding beauty in the every day is what encourages and strengthens my spirit. You can find me barefoot and outside with wild boys running around next to my garden most weekends.

I’m constantly learning the value of working smarter and not just harder — this goes for both fitness and life. It’s so much harder in the application.

I have the constant struggle of envisioning where I can be 5 years from now but only having the resources and capacity for today. Anyone relate?? 😂

Learn more of her story on her website and her podcast, the Deconstructing Mamas.
About Lizz
My name is Elizabeth Petters, but everyone calls me Lizz. I started spelling my name with two z’s when there was another Liz in my elementary class. I was diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder when I was 8. I love writing, organizing, theatre, creating. My three-year-old and I sing Disney songs constantly. My dad is biblical scholar Peter Enns, and I am a chip off the old block (as they say). Most of my days consist of coffee, lexapro, poopy diapers, picture books, cutting food into tiny pieces, and getting to nap time. I do occasionally write my thoughts down and share them with all of you.

Todd Frazier has Winter Faith! - Episode #101

Todd Frazier has Winter Faith! - Episode #101

Today’s guest is my first cousin Todd Frazier. He is a person who I have looked up to since I was in elementary school. One of my first memories of him is during the annual Frazier football thanksgiving day , in the winter snow of Wisconsin, was him playing in only shorts and a t- shirt while the rest of us were all bundled up in a full snow suit.
Todd is funny like that. His joy comes from resilience and his faith and his wife.
Todd has endured a lot of trauma in his life, especially as a young kid. We talk about how his trauma affected his own faith and how it influenced how he and his wife raised their kids in Minneapolis, MN. We talk about his winter faith moments, his parenting, and his anger and sadness in his life. Also we briefly address how Christians and the church should respond to the death of George Floyd in his current city and how the Church should respond to the inequalities in our nation.
I am so proud to have a cousin like Todd Frazier and I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I do. So without more deadly let’s get into it.

Drew E. Jackson is a poet who came late to writing poetry, although he would say that his love for the art form began with hip-hop, learning to put words together from Nas’ Illmatic. He writes at the intersection of justice, peace, and contemplation, having a passion to contribute toward a more just and whole world.
Born in Williamstown, NJ, Drew currently calls New York City home. He holds a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Chicago and an M.A. in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary. While he’s not traversing the world of poetry, Drew spends his time pastoring Hope East Village, a church that he planted in March of 2018. Drew also serves as the President of Pax, an organization focused on promoting the peace of Jesus in the 21st century.

Taylor Schumann aims at ending Gun Violence in Schools- Episode #139

Taylor Schumann aims at ending Gun Violence in Schools- Episode #139

Today's guest is Taylor Schumann. Taylor Schumann is an author and activist, writing our swords into plowshares, our apathy into action, and the space between us into common ground. Preorder her book today! Her book is called "When Thoughts are Prayers aren't Enough." A few words by Taylor. Since I can remember, I’ve been writing. Since I can remember, people have been telling me I could write, and thankfully somewhere along the way I started believing them. Writing has gotten me through a lot of seasons of life: my college days, engagement & marriage, and the aftermath of being wounded in and surviving a school shooting. These days I am taking care of toddler and trying to find space to write in the cracks of this new life. I’ve learned a lot the past few years. I’ve learned about trauma & grief. I’ve learned about the ways that the body stores trauma and memories and how PTSD and anxiety can take over a life. I’ve learned what it’s like to walk in contradicting emotions— grateful to be alive,  yet struggling with the pain of living; feeling hopeless, yet knowing new mercies come as surely as the sun. I have experienced deep suffering, the kind that makes you wonder how all those cracks you feel could ever possibly be glued back together again. And yet, through all of it, I have known the joy that is found in feeling God’s guiding hand as you take one step after the one before it, trusting that you’ll one day find healing and redemption. So I’d like to take you all on this walk with me, if you’re up for it of course. We’re going to talk about both the good things and the hard things and how they aren’t mutually exclusive. We’ll talk about things that may make us a little uncomfortable sometimes, but that’s only because we’re trying to grow. We’ll go slow and steady and take some breaks here and there. Don’t worry about catching up, I’ll meet you where you are - Taylor The Winter Faith Podcast creates conversations on God, grief, and emotional growth. Birthed by Andrew Frazier in 2017. Staci Frenes on "Love Makes Room" - Episode #151

Staci Frenes on "Love Makes Room" - Episode #151

Staci Frênes joins Andy to discuss her book Love Makes Room and other things I learned When my Daughter came out.
“love makes room”
When Staci Frenes learned her teenage daughter was gay, she found her dreams for the future—along with her lifelong faith—collapsing around her. Coming to terms with a new reality was a challenge, and an invitation, to make room for many things along the way: the inevitability of uncertainty, hope in the midst of loss, awkward and tough conversations, an expanding faith, and a greater understanding of how people are more the same than different.
In Love Makes Room, Frenes helps readers see that a reimagined future may look different than our old hoped-for pictures of ourselves and our families, but it can also be wider, deeper, and more fulfilling than we ever dreamed.
About Staci
Christian music artist Staci Frenes has spent the last 25 years singing and leading worship in churches, at Christian conferences, women’s retreats and other faith-based venues. This UC-Berkeley graduate, mom and former English teacher turned her lifelong love of music into a full-time vocation, forming her own publishing company and record label. She built a successful independent career, releasing ten albums of original music and landing multiple film and television placements, including "America’s Next Top Model", "The Biggest Loser," and "Nashville."
Staci added author and speaker to her resume in 2014 with her self-published book, "Flourish", about how to cultivate a life in which our unique gifts find their full expression. Her most recent book reflects a season of deep, profound changes in her faith and family life: "Love Makes Room" is a memoir about coming to accept and understand her daughter’s gay orientation within the context of her deeply-rooted Christian faith.
Articulate, authentic and hopeful, Staci Frenes writes and speaks about the truths that resonate in every aspect of life, and she is confident that the process can be as beautiful as the finish.

Jenna Little on Faith and Finding Healing- Episode #147

Jenna Little joins Andy this week to talk about her ability to use yoga and counseling to guide people to physical and emotional and spiritual healing.
Jenna Little's Website states:
My work is my heart, soul, and offering to a hurting world. I found my way into this integrative healing space out of desperation to breathe fresh air, find my way home to myself, and to create meaning out of the shattered pieces. Through my own personal healing work, I had visions of creating a safe, embodied, spiritual space for others to bring their raw pain, emotions, and stories forward as they piece things back together and find meaning. If you find yourself hurting and hoping, know that you are not alone. There are many on the healing journey and my hope for you is this, that you would see yourself, your story, and your pain as worthy of connection. You are worthy and you don’t have to be alone as your journey onward and through.

Tiffany Bluhm is a popular Christian author, speaker, and podcast. She seeks justice for those who are oppressed. Read more about Tiffany here.
About Tiffany
I’m an East Indian born, PNW dwelling, author, speaker, podcaster, and adoptive parent. My work is at the intersection of justice, women, and faith.
After college, I served three years in the U.K. with at-risk youth. Upon returning home, I served as an Outreach Pastor at an urban mega church where I engaged parishioners with marginalized individuals such as those experiencing homelessness, those who were incarcerated, the AIDS community, and women. In that time, I created Esteem, an outreach program to women in the sex industry and assisted in the development of, and spoke at, John School alongside the FBI Innocence Lost Task Force, local police, and Crime Stoppers which addressed men who bought women. After seven years of church ministry, I left to pursue writing full-time and started Sip and Savor, a women’s ministry in the Seattle area centered around fine food and wine. Sip serves over 500 women a year. My husband Derek and I, along with our two sons, Jericho and Kingston, live in Tacoma, WA.
I teach women’s Bible study at Sip, co-host the Why Tho podcast, and speak at churches, conferences, and events. My work has been featured in Publisher’s Weekly, The Bible App, Red Letter Christians, Sojourners, The Jenny McCarthy Show, and more.
Official Bio:
Tiffany Bluhm is the author of Prey Tell: Why We Silence Women Who Tell the Truth and How Everyone Can Speak Up. She is a sought after speaker, writer, and podcast co-host of the popular podcast Why Tho, a show answering the existential and nonsensical questions we ask ourselves, with author and speaker, Ashley Abercrombie. She speaks at conferences and events, and her work has been featured in World Vision Magazine, Publisher’s Weekly, Sojourners, Red Letter Christians, the YouVersion Bible app, Jenny McCarthy Show, and more. Lee Camp on Politics & Church - Episode #142

Lee Camp on Politics & Church - Episode #142

Lee Camp's book is called, Scandalous Witness, offers new insights into faith and politics in the United States.
Read about the book here.

About Lee
I am an Alabamian by birth, raised in the tail end of the Appalachians in the north eastern quadrant of the state, full of long-leaf pines and red-clay dirt and rolling hills. After leaving home I completed an undergraduate degree in Computer Science at Lipscomb University (B.A., 1989) in Nashville, Tennessee, where I fell in love with the wonderful woman named Laura who became my wife. We made our way out west where I did seminary at Abilene Christian University (M.A., M.Div., 1993), and Laura did an M.B.A. There we learned to love the flat dry desert, the ubiquitous mesquite trees, and the good people of west Texas. Following a six month sojourn in Kenya working with street-kids and a vocational school, we made our way to the mid-west and made a home in South Bend, Indiana where I did graduate studies at Notre Dame in Moral Theology / Christian Ethics (M.A., Ph.D., 1999): there the Alabama boy who had deeply distrusted Notre Dame as a child (because they always beat Bear Bryant) learned to love Domers and Touchdown Jesus and Notre Dame football, and cold, snowy winter days cooped up in Hesburgh Library, long, dark days good for studying, with summer and fall days so crystal clear and beautiful that it made one simply grateful to be alive.
I've been teaching full-time at Lipscomb University since 1999, a community I love and for which I am deeply grateful, full of many dear friends and outstanding colleagues. Laura and I have three sons whom we love, of course, more than words can tell, and have been grateful to raise them in Nashville. Since 2013, I've been flying sailplanes for my primary hobby. It makes me giddy.

Meghan Tschanz is a Woman Rising- Episode #132

Meghan Tschanz is a Woman Rising- Episode #132

In episode #132, Meghan Tschanz teaches Andy about faith and feminism using her new book Woman Rising as the background. Meghan has felt God's presence in her most broken moments and it was an honor to listen to her stories. Buy her book today and listen to her podcast to gain more insight from Meghan.
About Meghan
Fresh out of college, hating her job, and searching for meaning, Meghan Tschanz left everything to join a mission trip around the globe, and quickly witnessed oppression experienced by women that she never thought possible. Over the next several years, she befriended women around the globe who had survived sex trafficking, female genital mutilation, and violence so extreme Meghan wondered at the woman's survival. Through listening to their stories, Meghan started to notice a pattern that pointed to systems of injustice that held women back―systems that her childhood church had taught and in which she was complicit. She was changed. Returning to the United States, Meghan became keenly aware of how the teachings and messaging surrounding women in her own upbringing were part of the problem. In the process, she began to find her voice, one that spoke out against injustice and moved her into tension with her Christian community. Women Rising is Meghan Tschanz's personal journey of transformation. But it's also a Christian blueprint for anyone wanting to confront injustice against women while pointing to a biblical standard for gender equality. With humility and grit, Meghan calls Christian women to amplify their voices for righteousness―and she calls the church to listen.

Megan Westra - Born Again and Again - Episode #130

Megan Westra joins Andy to talk about her upbringing in the church and her awesome book, Born Again and Again. Find her work on her website and her podcast.
About Megan (in her own words)
Hi, I'm Megan, I'm glad you're here.
I started writing when my spouse and I decided to move halfway across the country to live in a disinvested neighborhood and work as children's pastors. I used to post recipes, and pictures of the kids we worked with, and cute young married people stuff.
After my daughter was born I started questioning my beliefs, and haven’t stopped asking questions since. These days I write my way through those questions about faith, and life, and who God is, and why people who say they love God don’t act like it sometimes. My first book, Born Again and Again, is a collection of my thoughts on lots of these questions.
I hold a Masters of Divinity, and am an unabashed nerd, which means I write with an eye on the academic side of things, but I think theology should dance with us, not put us to sleep. I think the deep, complex theologies in old, dusty books should be accessible for all people, even if they don’t read German. (I think the best theology wasn’t done by dead German guys anyway.)

Sisterhood by Christy Bauman and Tracy Johnson - Episode #126

Sisterhood by Christy Bauman and Tracy Johnson - Episode #126

In this special episode, Christy and Tracey talk about being a community of woman who grieve together. They focus on the death of Jackson Brave Bauman. Christy wrote a book after her son Brave's death called A Brave Lament and this conversation follows part of that journey for herself and her friends. A film of Brave Lament can be found on her website. A Brave Lament encourages the scandalous invitation into the belly of grief. Pain matters and is the doorway to knowing God more fully. With heart-wrenching grief accessible through poetic writings, hope is found in the most unlikely place, in the pain itself. This book undertakes the enormous task of stepping into our own heartache with the tragic loss of our son, Jackson Brave Bauman while inviting the reader into their own story of sorrow for the sake of collectively healing our wounds. The following pages have sustained us; these words have been bread and water to our soul may they be the same to you. -Andrew & Christy Andy is grateful for the Womaneering Podcast and the work Christy and Tracy do every week on their show and so he wanted to share their important work with his audience.
