Ep 37: Matt Wurst

Ep 37: Matt Wurst

We recorded this episode with Matt Wurst roughly 2-mo ago. It was when Clubhouse was on fire and you could not ignore it. Matt has always been an early adopter and one to jump into things and have a POV quickly, so we wanted to talk to him about how he has been engaging on Clubhouse and the opportunities he sees. We then recorded some episodes we felt were more timely and we prioritized them before Matt’s episode. What has been interesting and not unusual is in the span of those weeks, Clubhouse has taken a dive and people who were hot on it weeks ago are sour on it now. We wanted to release this episode to highlight where things were weeks ago, compared to where they are now + Matt is a smart guy in our industry who we always enjoy catching up with.

Matt Wurst was Managing Director, North America of Revelation, an agency that was acquired by Jellyfish at the beginning of 2021. He now has the role of VP, Global Clients with Jellyfish.

We discussed:
- Matt’s experience from being on Clubhouse from the beginning
- How it started versus where it is now
- How people can engage in Clubhouse
- How COVID played into Clubhouse taking off. Or did it?
- How Moderators of Clubhouse rooms can really strengthen the discussion
- Who is the best competitor of Clubhouse -- Facebook? Twitter?
- What interesting uses Matt has seen of Clubhouse or Twitter Spaces
- Brands engaging in Clubhouse/audio
- Matt’s career arc and what he’s up to these days with Jellyfish

Ep 33: Luc Doucet

Luc Doucet is Founder at The First Mint, a platform that covers NBA Top Shot, streams, analytics, and podcasts. They are building the future of reactive media in the social ecosystem of blockchain.

We recently talked to Jack Settleman about NBA Top Shot and in that episode he mentioned Luc, and based on what he said about him we knew we needed to talk to Luc.

We discussed:

- What is NBA Top Shot and why Luc said it is “quantifying fandom”
- Why has Luc been so gracious in giving his time and experience in helping people understand NBA Top Shot and digital collectibles
- The quantity and scarcity of the digital collectables market
- Where NBA Top Shot needs to go in order to make this more balanced so new fans can enter for under $30
- Likening NBA Top Shot to Crack and Scratch Lottery Tickets
- Why right now was the perfect time for NBA Top Shot to launch and be successful
- How the real story here is Blockchain
- How NBA Top Shot is building the blueprint for how this is done for not only brands to follow, but consumers to have less of a barrier of entry
- Why Luc said “I've told all my peers that their opportunities are in crypto now. Just like they were in Social 10 years ago.”
- Luc explains how the resistance to blockchain and digital collectables is very similar to when email was introduced

Guest Host: Brandon Chubb

Rashad Campbell is an athlete and businessman. He graduated from Cornell University and played Defensive Back on the football team, where as a senior he set an Ivy League record for kick return yards in a season and became the only Ivy player with multiple returns for a score. His 1,921 career kickoff return yards ranks third all-time in the Ivy League. Football has been a consistent thread throughout his family (brother Ibraheim plays for the Indianapolis Colts) and we discuss being a football player and where that can take you, and how Rashad has found many business and corporate environments are similar to the game of football. Rashad has transitioned from football to a financial career, first in selling alternative investments, and now as Partner at Team Altemus where he works directly with athletes from a financial perspective.

We discussed:
