February 7 is National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NBHAAD). This episode of a Woman’s Worth features Shericka Williams and Brieanna Williams with Five Horizons Health Services in Montgomery. The guests join the co-hosts to talk about National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NBHAAD). Shericka share information with listeners about the background and purpose of National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day as well as this year’s theme “Engage, Educate, and Empower: Uniting to End HIV/AIDS in Black Communities”. Shericka and Brieanna inform listeners about the HIV work that they are doing on college campuses. In addition, listeners receive information about upcoming activities being offered for National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day by Five Horizons Health Services.

This episode the co-hosts talk with Dr. Karen Johnson about HIV in the Prison System. Dr. Johnson shares information about her background and HIV research. Also, Dr. Johnson informs listeners about her current work and research with the prison system and HIV. In addition, listeners learn about the importance of advocacy and policy as it relates to HIV.

This episode Dr. Pamela Foster and Mrs. Reashanda White talk about HIV Transmission, Prevention and Treatment as Prevention.  Listeners are informed about ways HIV is transmitted. Also, listeners receive information on ways to prevent HIV, including Pre-exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP).  Co-hosts share information about Undetectable=Untransmittable (U=U), or Treatment as Prevention. 

This episode of A Woman’s Worth features the Doctor and the Dietitian. Dr. Kelly joins Dr. Foster and Mrs. White to promote health and well-being.  Dr. Kelly provides information about physical, emotional and spiritual health.  In addition, Dr. Foster and Dr. Kelly informs listeners about the importance of PLANT-BASED FOODS AND FULL PLATE LIVING.  Also, listeners learn about the HOLIDAY TRIO (EAT, DRINK, AND BE MERRY). 

This episode A Woman’s Worth features Dr. Marguerite Owens: “HIV Advocate Extraordinaire. Dr. Owens shares with listeners about her background and her work in HIV. She informs listeners of the importance of individuals being educated about HIV. Listeners learn that HIV is preventable. In addition, Dr. Owens emphasizes the importance of being committed to the work of “Ending the HIV Epidemic”.

This episode features DeAndra Brown-Tuyishime and Shericka Williams. Both guests provide information to listeners about the organization and their new roles. The listening audience receive information about new programs, activities and upcoming events offered by Five Horizons Health Services.

Syphilis cases on the rise in Alabama. Dr. Pamela Foster and Mrs. Reashanda White talk to listeners about the increase of syphilis cases in Alabama. According to the Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH), the sexual transmitted infection (syphilis) is on the rise in Alabama. The co-hosts share with listeners the rates of syphilis in different counties in Alabama. In addition, listeners receive information about the transmission and spread of syphilis. Also, Dr. Foster and Mrs. White share information about the importance of testing for syphilis and other sexual transmitted infections (STI’s) as well as HIV.  Furthermore, listeners receive information on the importance of preventing the spread of syphilis and other sexual transmitted infections as well as ways to prevent STI’s and HIV.

June 27 is National HIV Testing Day. Mrs. Crystal Nelson with St. Paul AME Church joined our co-host Mrs. Reashanda White to talk with listeners about National HIV Testing Day. Crystal shared with listeners information about St. Paul AME and their HIV initiative. Also, she shared some historical facts about St. Paul AME. In addition, Crystal provided information about National HIV Testing Day and the importance of KNOWING YOUR HIV STATUS. Plus, Crystal informed listeners about St. Paul AME’s upcoming HIV Testing Day event on Saturday July 1, from 9am-1pm. Crystal provided details about the various partners participating in the event as well as festivities taking place at the event.

FIVE HORIZONS HEALTH SERVICES COMES TO MONTGOMERY! This episode co-hosts are joined by DeAndra Brown-Tuyishime and Karen Carr Turner to introduce the listening audience to Five Horizons Health Services. DeAndra and Karen share information about Five Horizons Health Services takeover of Medical Advocacy & Outreach (MAO). Both guests provide information to listeners about their new roles. In addition, listeners learn about the services and programs offered by Five Horizons Health Services. Also, June 27 is National HIV Testing Day, listeners receive information about the upcoming testing event Five Horizons is hosting for the community.

A Woman’s Worth continues to follow and provide updated information on COVID-19 and Monkeypox. This episode, the co-hosts provide updates on COVID-19 and monkeypox. Listeners receive information on the importance of the COVID-19 vaccine and boosters. Also, Dr. Foster emphasizes the importance of individuals 65 and older with immunocompromised conditions such as HIV, Lupus or Cancer to be vaccinated and boosted.

In addition, Dr. Foster provides information on monkeypox transmission. The co-hosts share information about the symptoms of monkeypox. Moreover, listeners receive information on the vaccine and treatment for monkeypox.

May is Women’s Health Month! This episode the co-hosts have a “Real Talk with a HIV Researcher.” Our guest is Dr. Shameka Cody with the University of Alabama. Dr. Cody shares information about her background.  In addition, Dr. Cody provides information about her research in HIV and older adults. Also, Dr. Cody shares with listeners about her research on sleep and cognitive impairment as well as her work in rural Alabama.

This episode a Woman’s Worth highlights HIV Women Researchers. Our guest is Dr. Karen A. National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day is observed on March 10. A Woman’s Worth invites Mrs. Crystal Wells with St. Paul AME Church to provide information about National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. Mrs. Wells also informs the audience about a forthcoming event they are having for women and girls.

February 7, 2023 is National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. A Woman’s Worth co-hosts Dr. Pam Foster and Mrs. Reashanda White share information with listeners about National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day.  Listeners learn the background and purpose of National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. Also, listeners receive information on the importance of HIV testing, HIV prevention and HIV treatment. Dr. Foster informs listeners of organizations that host National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day activities.

A Woman’s Worth continues to follow and provide information on the HIV Vaccine as well as other HIV updates. This episode Dr. Foster provides information about the HIV Vaccine. Also, Dr. Foster and Mrs. White share information about Injectable PrEP. In addition, listeners receive information about other updates in HIV.

A Woman’s Worth remembers the legacy and memory of Mel Prince. Mel served as Executive Director at Selma AIR. Mel worked with Selma AIR for 27 years. She was committed to providing services to those infected with HIV as well as those at risk for HIV in rural Alabama.

In observance of World AIDS Day, A Woman’s Worth features our co-host Dr. Pamela Foster. Dr. Foster provides an informative presentation. Listeners will hear about “Ending the HIV Epidemic”. In addition, Dr. Foster shares information about the National Memorial AIDS Quilt and the next stops of the AIDS Quilt in Alabama. Also, Dr. Foster asks listeners “what are we doing as a community” to address the issues of HIV.

This week a Woman’s Worth co-hosts share information about HIV, COVID-19, Monkeypox (MPV), and Flu. Listeners receive information about the different viruses. As flu cases surge, Dr. Foster shares information about flu. In addition, Dr. Foster provides an update on MPV. Also, co-hosts share information about lessons learned from the different pandemics.

This episode of a Woman’s Worth features Dafina Ward (Executive Director) of Southern AIDS Coalition (SAC). Mrs. Ward presented at the National HIV Research Meeting Ending the HIV Epidemic at UAB Center for AIDS Research. Listeners will hear an informative and educational presentation from Mrs. Ward.

Listeners receives information on the modes of transmission and symptoms of Monkeypox. Also, Dr. Foster provides information on the treatment and vaccine for Monkeypox. In addition, Dr. Foster informs listeners to contact their health provider or local health department if experiencing any symptoms of Monkeypox.

This is a day to engage faith communities to work together for HIV/AIDS education, prevention, treatment, care, and support, and to reduce and eliminate stigma and discrimination. This episode “A Woman’s Worth” features Mrs. Crystal Nelson with St. Paul AME Church in Montgomery. Listeners will learn how St. Paul AME Church became involved in HIV/AIDS work. Also, Crystal shared information about projects and upcoming events offered by the church. Also, listeners learn ways people of faith can share information about National Faith HIV/AIDS Awareness Day and get involved in HIV.

This week a Woman’s Worth welcomed Dafina Ward, Executive Director of Southern AIDS Coalition (SAC).  Dafina provided information about her journey in HIV and her journey with SAC. In addition, she shared with listeners background information about SAC including SAC’s advocacy work in the South. Listeners learned that SAC started in Alabama and serves many states across the South. Also, listeners were informed on SAC’s current initiatives.

This week's episode is all about Monkeypox. Dr. Pamela Payne-Foster provided information about Monkeypox. Listeners were informed on the modes of transmission and symptoms of Monkeypox. Dr. Foster provided Information on treatment and the vaccine for Monkeypox. Listeners were also provided some information on HIV during the program. In addition, hosts shared information about the importance of women being informed and aware of Monkeypox and sharing the information with loved ones and others.

This episode featured St. Paul AME Church’s "SHE LOOKS LIKE ME" Initiative. Listeners heard the story and journey of an HIV positive African American Woman. Also, listeners were informed on the initiative and the efforts to educate and provide HIV testing for African American Women. In addition, listeners received information on the work the church is doing to reduce HIV infections among cis gender women.

A Woman’s Worth Community Health and Wellness Radio Program welcomed Dr. LaRon Nelson with Yale University to the program to talk with Dr. Foster and Mrs. White. Dr. Nelson shared information about his background, journey, and role at Yale University. Also, Dr. Nelson informed listeners on current research projects that will take place in Alabama, particularly Montgomery. In addition, Dr. Nelson provided his work in MSM research and the intersection with HIV prevention. Moreover, Dr. Nelson talked with the co-hosts about lessons learned from COVID.

A Woman’s Worth Community Health and Wellness Radio Program recognizes National HIV Testing Day (June 27)! Mrs. Jora White with the Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) HIV/AIDS Division joined co-hosts Dr. Pamela Foster and Mrs. Reashanda White to provide information about HIV Testing.  Mrs. Jora White shared with listeners information on the various HIV tests available. She informed listeners on locations to get tested as well as HIV testing activities and events taking place in Montgomery and across the state for National HIV Testing Day.  In addition, Jora informed listeners on the importance of all women screening for HIV and all women making HIV testing apart of their routine screenings.

Dr. Pamela Payne-Foster gives a presentation at the Breaking Barriers Symposium called A Pathway to EHE - Lessons Learned from an Community Engaged Scholar. In the talk, she gives an introduction to the project called Ending the HIV Epidemic, discusses how academic and community partnerships are a part of this project, and describes two example faith-based projects in the community.

A Woman’s Worth Community Health and Wellness Show celebrates Women’s Health Month! Mrs. Jora White with the Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) HIV/AIDS Division joined co-hosts Dr. Pamela Foster and Mrs. Reashanda White to provide an update on HIV and Ending the HIV Epidemic (EHE). Mrs. White shared with listeners upcoming women’s health programs hosted by ADPH HIV/AIDS Division.  Mrs. White informed listeners on the importance of community and faith leaders as well as community and faith organizations partnering with ADPH to get involved in the work of Ending the HIV Epidemic. In addition, Mrs. White discuss the importance of creating innovative approaches to educating individuals in Alabama to prevent the spread of HIV.

Ms. Teresa Tillman with Alabama Coalition Against Rape (ACAR) informed listeners about ACAR and services they provide for women. Also, listeners received information about Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) and HIV. Listeners were informed that IPV can increase a woman’s risk for HIV. Teresa shared with listeners the types of IPV, and ways women can reduce IPV. In addition, Teresa provided information on upcoming programs and trainings ACAR is hosting for women in Montgomery and across the state.

Crystal Nelson with St. Paul AME Church returned to the show to provide more information about their upcoming HIV Women’s Conference “SHE LOOKS LIKE ME-SHE TREAT”.  The conference is scheduled on Friday April 29 and Saturday April 30. Crystal shared a list of activities that will take place at the conference.  Also, listeners were informed on some of the topics and keynote speakers that will present at the conference. Crystal provided information where listeners can go to learn more about the “SHE LOOKS LIKE ME-Women’s Conference” and to register.

This week listeners received information about Ending the HIV Epidemic in the United States (EHE). Dr. Foster shared with listeners the plan to end the HIV epidemic in the United States by 2030. Listeners were informed on the key strategies of Ending the HIV Epidemic. In addition, listeners received information on advancements in HIV prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. Both co-hosts provided information about HIV and African Americans and acknowledged some of the root causes that contribute to the increase of HIV in African Americans in the Deep South.

Shericka Williams with MAO returned to the show to talk about HIV, Stigma, Fear and Disclosure. Shericka shared with listeners her role at MAO and education programs provided for the community. She talked about the issue of stigma and fear as it relates to women accessing treatment. She provided information about women including HIV testing and STI screening as a part of the routine pap smear. Also, Shericka talked in depth about HIV positive women and disclosing status in new intimate partner relationships.

Co-hosts Dr. Pam Foster and Mrs. Reashanda White provided updates on COVID-19 and HIV. Listeners were reminded that COVID-19 is not OVER and to REMAIN VIGILANT! Mrs. White provided a report from the Alabama Department of Public Health on the number of COVID-19 cases and deaths in Alabama as well as the number of Alabamians that received a COVID-19 vaccine. Dr. Foster talked with listeners about Herd Immunity. Also, Dr. Foster reminded listeners the importance of getting a COVID-19 vaccine and completing the series of COVID-19 vaccinations. Masking and social distance updates were provided to listeners. In addition, Dr. Foster provided an update on the HIV vaccine.

In celebration of Women’s History Month, A Woman’s Worth Show highlighted Ashley Tarrant, the first African American Woman to be named the Interim Chief Executive Officer with Medical Advocacy and Outreach (MAO). Ashley came to the show to talk with Dr. Pam Foster and Mrs. Reashanda White about MAO, her climb at MAO as well as MAO’s 35th Anniversary Year events and activities.  Listeners received historical information about MAO as well as services offered by MAO and the vision for MAO. Ashley shared with listeners her educational background as well as the various roles that she has served in at MAO that led her to becoming the Interim Chief Executive Officer. Also, Ashley provided listeners with information on upcoming services MAO will be providing for individuals in the community that is not infected with HIV.  In addition, Ashley shared with listeners upcoming activities and events MAO is hosting for their 35th Anniversary.

Carmarion D. Anderson-Harvey with Human Rights Campaign Alabama came to the show to talk with Dr. Pam Foster and Mrs. Reashanda White about the Intersection between Transgender and HIV. Listeners received information on Carmarion’s background and journey. Carmarion provided listeners with information about the Human Right Campaign and her role with the organization. In addition, Carmarion informed listeners on some issues that affect the LGBTQ + community in Alabama

Shericka Williams with Medical Advocacy and Outreach (MAO) joined Reashanda White to share information with listeners about National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day.  Listeners learned the purpose of National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. Also, listeners received information on the importance of National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. Shericka shared with listeners the programs and events MAO is hosting for National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day on March 10.

Guest Mrs. Deandra Brown Tuyishime with Medical Advocacy Outreach (MAO) joined Dr. Pam Foster and Mrs. Reashanda White to share information with listeners about National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day.  Listeners learned the purpose of National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. Also, listeners received information on the importance of National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. DeAndra shared with listeners a list of National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day programs, events and activities that MAO is hosting on February 7 and following February 7. Also, our co-host Dr. Pam Foster will be a feature speaker for one of the programs.

Co-hosts Dr. Pam Foster and Reashanda White were joined by Dr. Mary McIntyre to provide an update on COVID-19. Dr. McIntyre provided an update on the number of COVID-19 cases in Alabama. Listeners received an update on the seriousness of the Omicron variant. Dr. McIntyre provided an update on vaccinations for children.

Listeners received information on COVID-19 and pregnant women.  Also, listeners received information on the new CDC guidelines for isolation and quarantine. In addition, Dr. McIntyre informed listeners on the importance of vaccinations, masking and testing to combat COVID-19.

This week’s episode focused on HIV and Stigma. Dr. Foster talked about her research “PROJECT FAITHH”. She provided information on what is stigma and the different types of stigma related to HIV. Dr. Foster provided information on what they found and learned from the research project.

This special show on A Woman’s Worth is dedicated to World AIDS Day was moderated by Dr. Pamela Payne Foster. After giving a short summary on the history of World AIDS Day (WAD) founded in 1988 along with a moment of silence in remembrance of those persons with HIV who have passed in the Montgomery area, she had three special guests of the AIDS Service Organization, Montgomery Advocacy Outreach (MAO) including Dr. Margarite Barber-Owens an internal medicine physician who was formerly in private practice in Montgomery and currently works part time as a clinician with MAO, Douglas McCloud- Education and Outreach and Teresa Benson - facilitator for the Women’s HIV Support Group. The guests covered two main topics from their respective: how HIV services and treatment have improved since the first WAD celebration and what HIV services and treatment will look like in the future.
