Y'all, Jove has MOAR COOTIES WTF. These cooties are particularly shitty because they stole most of her voice. Bastards. So Andi muddled through with various noises from Jove (you're all welcome), spouting about beta readers, cool literary festivals, links between acting and writing, subways, and ClexaCon. Also, Branwell Brönte might've been a jerk.
HELLO, dahlings! Jove and Andi are BACK after illin'-ness. We hope all is well in your part of the world.
Jove wonders if it's possible that older main characters in books aren't as common as younger because being older, you just don't have time for drama, which generally drives a story. Andi laughed quite hard at this discussion. Also, if you have a mad skill in something, OWN IT! Plus, R.G. Emanuelle might actually believe unicorns could exist and Andi's getting ready for ClexaCon.
Andi and Jove had crazy weeks. Andi's on the road and Jove is just...Jove. So happy St. Patrick's Day! Also, gray hair can be awesome. So can hot springs. And if you're going to be a judge in a book contest, maybe you should act out scenes to see how the narrative flows. Or something.
In this episode of Riding Shotgun with DRB, Jove sits down with award-winning editor and author Sacchi Green to discus her new release, Wild Rides and other Lesbian Erotic Adventures, available now from Dirt Road Books.
Jove has added (at least temporarily) to her household while Andi admits she's really freaking tired after being on the road for a bit. Also, no matter what anybody says, age discrimination is a thing and workers are still getting screwed. They are also passionate about representation in media (Black Lightning and Captain Marvel!) -- all kinds of media.
This week on Riding Shotgun with Dirt Road Books, Jove and Michelle discuss points of view in narrative. Yes, it's a lot sexier than it sounds. You should totally give it a listen.
Andi struggles to keep Jove on track but then joins her in the weeds as they ponder reality TV, trigger warnings, Rachel Weisz (because seriously, who wouldn't), ants and other bugs, and writing from the not-so-happy places in your mind.
Andi and Jove discuss National Toothache Day (wtf), decide they would love to work with Jessie Chandler at a Home Depot, think writing postcards to elected officials is a really cool idea (just don't Andi it up) and agree with Fiona Zedde that the movie When Night Is Falling is kind of cheesy, but they like it anyway.
Whew! Jove and Andi got kinda deep this week (thanks, contributors, for writing stuff that made us do it!) and they talked about depression, identity, and water conservation (no, really). Also, could author Chris Zett please tell us more about smuggling vodka out of Russia?
Consequences are a thing, parenting is STILL hard, and air travel can suck (so does bronchitis).
It was KD Williamson week up in here! Which is fine by us, cuz Andi and Jove LUUUUV KD and all the wisdom she drops as well as the fun stuff, too. Also, Yvonne Heidt would really like a good 2019 (same!), author Anna Ferrara is working on another project and Andi is grappling with giant philosophical sociopolitical questions with regard to "free speech" issues versus Terms of Service on web platforms because Andi doesn't do anything half-assed.
Andi and Jove accidentally talk about writing (and genre fiction) thanks to Kate Christie. Also, therapy is a really good thing. And you should totally try to see a shooting star/meteor shower.
Check out the Women and Words blog.
In this episode of Riding Shotgun with DRB, Jove Belle and Michelle L. Teichman talk about the realities that are simply too strange for fiction.
