F1RE, stands for Female First Racing Enduro team.

When Shelly's daughter expressed a desire to participate in enduro racing, she tirelessly sought out an event where her daughter could compete. Despite encountering resistance and being told that "girls don't race enduro," and with no existing category for girls, Shelly took matters into her own hands.

Determined to pave the way for change, she established the inaugural girls' enduro category, giving rise to the formation of the F1RE team.

Delve into our interview with Shelly to uncover the origins of F1re, their remarkable growth, the struggles the girls encounter, and discover ways you can support this exceptional team!

The bread down of part 4 below:

  • Advanced Protection”
  • Crashing while riding – What do I do?
  • When to call it quits for the day? Any crash that involves hitting your head – err on the side of caution and call it a day. Adrenaline can mask any potential injury, and physical symptoms may not immediately present themselves until hours later.
Be sure to learn to listen to your gut, and what you inner monologue is telling you – even if you haven’t had a telltale ride-ending crash, if your gut is telling you that it’s time to stop/slow down/take a break, it’s important to listen to that. It’s easy to fall victim to social pressures to “send it” and keep riding, but take small inventories of your comfort level as you advance your skills, and never second-guess the feeling that you need to sit out and call it a day.
  • Racing! How do I get into it?
Amateur/beginner categories exist in lots of major regional races. Many races involve the use of a separate race line from higher categories that are designed for amateur or beginner racers. Reach out to nearbly bike parks about what local races they might offer (ie, weekly local race leagues).
Skills Clinics at bike parks are a great way to advance your skills with direct oversight and instruction from a professional. Receiving instant feedback from professionals on how to adjust your riding style or how to approach a feature is invaluable insight on how to advance your riding skills. Clinics and lessons are a great way to level up your skills and can be specific to your personal goals as you advance.
Crashes WILL happen, and that’s ok! Crashing doesn’t make you a “bad” rider. Try to find one key takeaway from every ride, regardless of if you think it was a good/great/bad/mediocre ride. Every ride gives an opportunity for self-reflection. Advancing your skills in mountain biking will involve testing limits, and try not to fall into being overly critical of yourself as you learn new skills.
  • Record your rides – it’s a great way to review and evaluate your rides as you tackle new trails or features.

Vanessa Hair, Founder of Mountain Riders Collective

Vanessa Hair, Founder of Mountain Riders Collective

Hi everyone, welcome to today’s podcast where we are chatting with Vanessa Hair! We talk about her journey into riding bikes from a young age to her journey as an accomplished MTB racer who has won several awards during her career, to today as she starts this amazing project called the Mountain Riders Collective. The collective is a community where we as riders can build connections, support each other, be inspired through online and in-person forums, events, coaching, and importantly a platform for mentorship programs!

It's been 1 year since Vanessa began Mountain Coaches Collective. Over the past year, she took the time to analyze and navigate where mountain bikers were at. Through her journey of navigating her passion project, the company name was due for a change. With the guidance of mentorship, Vanessa has renamed the company to Mountain Riders Collective. The name embodies it all and that "riders" hit more of a global scale which is her ultimate goal, plus coaches are riders too!

Be sure to check out her website in the description below to see for your-self all that the Mountain Riders Collective has to offer. Stay tuned and listen to our chat about this amazing new venture she’s taking on, and how she’s helping our community.

Also, sign up for the June 20th Webinar with the always awesome Jen Kates where they will be discussing ways to minimize low back discomfort/pain as a MTB rider and coach.

Amaryth "Amo" Gass, Boss Lady, Co-Founder & Co-Owner of the Sedona Mountain Bike Academy

On this podcast, we are chatting with Amaryth “Amo” Gass who is the co-founder and co-owner of the Sedona Mountain Bike Academy (SMBA). We talk about so many things, like, SMBA’s approach to coaching, the anxiety women feel while riding, advice to women starting a coaching business, riding a mullet bike, and the best worst advice she’s ever received.

Based in Sedona and Flagstaff in Northern Arizona, SMBA is a mountain bike instruction company that offers mountain bike coaching, private lessons, events, community group rides and so much more.

SMBA has some amazing clinics such as a drop clinic, cornering clinics, and Sedona Shred clinics for all ages! SMBA also host various group rides throughout the year, and best of all, they empower women’s community groups by leading rides and providing coaching discounts.

True leaders in their community, SMBA work and support non-profits, and do a ton of community outreach. SMBA is passionate about conserving Northern Arizona’s natural environment for generations to come, so their instructors actively educate clients about the local trail system, the fragile and complex desert ecosystem, and their strategies to minimize impact.

SMBA has a lot of MTB coaches available to teach you anything you want to learn on a bike or anything you want to improve on a bike. Whether you want to learn to wheelie or learn to ride chunk, the SMBA are the coaches who can get you to level up!

Ladies All Ride Founder, Lindsey Richter

On this podcast we have none other than the founder and leader of Ladies All Ride, Lindsey Richter. Lindsey’s been on a mission to “change women's lives with two wheels and some dirt” for the last 12 years. Bike Check: Beka's custom build- Trek Slash

Beka has built a beautiful Trek Slash mountain bike!  She's an east coaster that loves to ride bike parks. One of her favorite places to ride is Thunder Mountain Bike park in Charlemont, MA, where she shreds every summer and fall!

Beka says that building this bike has been a labor of love, of which she can confidently say has been 100% worth it. She shares that the greatest accomplishment of this build is knowing that she stocked the bike with some amazing high-end components that keeps her feeling confident and empowered to challenge herself to take on bigger and bolder lines. Beka can truly say that every time she looks at her bike, she feels excited and inspired to ride, which she says "that is the most any of us can ever ask for in a dream bike."
