Saving Money and Effectively Delivering Quality Rehab Strategies! - Featuring- Dr. Ryan Chaney, PT, DPT, CSCS

Episodes with music are only available on Spotify.

Born and raised in Colorado Springs, Ryan swam competitively for 14 years, including two years in college. After hanging up his goggles, he dabbled in CrossFit and weightlifting, leading to him becoming a swim coach and trainer for the Colorado Torpedoes and Progressive Fitness for 5 years. Tired of working in the traditional, insurance-based medical model, Ryan decided to start Invictus PT- a hybrid physical therapy business that focuses on providing better solutions for his clients utilizing in-person treatments paired with extensive online rehab programming. This model has led to his clients getting better faster, less total appointments, all while saving money when compared to traditional PT.

He currently resides in the Springs with his fiancée (who is also a physical therapist) and dogs, Kona and Winnie. When not working, Ryan enjoys skiing, mountain biking, climbing, camping, cooking, reading, and weightlifting.

On Today's podcast:

1. Dominic Kuza's journey with competitors this year.

2. Common themes of diuretic use you are seeing within the competition community

3. Defining Diuretics and their mechanism of action:

The three types of diuretic medications are called thiazide, loop, and potassium-sparing diuretics.

All of them make your body excrete more fluids via urine.

Understanding Thiazide diuretics:

Thiazides are the most commonly prescribed diuretics. They’re most often used to treat high blood pressure. These drugs not only decrease fluids, they also cause your blood vessels to relax.

4. Thiazides are sometimes taken with other medications used to lower blood pressure.

Examples of thiazides include:

chlorthalidone

Hydrochlorothiazide (Microzide)

metolazone

indapamide

5. Understanding Loop diuretics

Loop diuretics are often used to treat heart failure. Examples of these drugs include:

torsemide (Demadex)

furosemide (Lasix)

bumetanide Bumex

6. Potassium-sparing diuretics

Potassium-sparing diuretics reduce fluid levels in your body without causing you to lose potassium, an important nutrient.

The other types of diuretics cause you to lose potassium, which can lead to health problems such as arrhythmia. Potassium-sparing diuretics may be prescribed for people at risk of low potassium levels, such as those who take other medications that deplete potassium.

Potassium-sparing diuretics don’t reduce blood pressure as well as the other types of diuretics do. Therefore, your doctor may prescribe a potassium-sparing diuretic with another medication that also lowers blood pressure.

Examples of potassium-sparing diuretics include:

Amiloride

Triamterene (Dyrenium)

Spironolactone (Aldactone)

Eplerenone (Inspra)

7. Discussing the dangers of nutrition and monitoring potassium intake with diuretic use

8. Discuss the effects of the longevity of bodybuilding and diuretic use

Welcome Everyone to the WPB Consulting Podcast. Get Excited as this is the first podcast release of 2021! I cannot thank our listeners enough for their support as we have had listeners from over 6 countries in 2020. Hello, my name is Austin I will be your host today. On today’s podcast, we will be discussing finding support in contest prep. Social support is important to have in your life. Support can come from your friends, family, or significant other. As many of you know if there is a lack of support it can end in poor outcomes. Add on being hangry during contest prep, and poor communication strategies, and it can end in disaster.

We have gathered a team of individuals’ to discuss how to communicate and ask for support during contest prep. We have two couple’s here today. One couple is an IFBB bikini bodybuilder and a carpenter. The other is two other NPC competitors. Each one will tell their story on what it’s like to support each other during contest prep, and competitions. Stay tuned for an exciting discussion on how we bring clarity to coaching!

Key themes discussed today:

  • How to ask for support from people in your life when you decide to compete?
  • What is intimacy like and how to communicate effectively.
  • What a difference support makes vs. peer pressure/”come on just eat a cheeseburger”.  Discussing Fit shaming and everything else in between.
  • Another fun aspect of this group is that one couple is both into competing, the other is not. What are some pros of both of you guys competing?
  • Pros and cons of competing together.

What is the mission of WPB Consulting:
