S01E12: Trick Readers Into Thinking You're An Expert, Part 2
In this episode, I continue my discussion from season 1 episode 10 about tricking readers into thinking we know what the heck we're talking about. Magicians can't actually make their assistants disappear, and authors can't actually be experts about every single topic we include in our novels. The key is to gain the trust of our audience, and by analyzing the BBC show 'Sherlock', I discuss three ways we can do just that. S01E11: I Used AI To Write AND Record This
AI text and speech generation tools are developing at a greater rate than we could have imagined. We are now at the point where a text box can serve as my writing partner, who pitches me ideas and makes suggestions on my plot. We are now at the point where an application can read my text out loud for me, in my own voice, and at times, it even tricks me into thinking I had forgetten which parts I actually recorded myself. All the parts of this episode that I wrote, besides the introduction are read out loud by my AI voice double. And all the parts of this episode that were written by my AI writing partner, are read out loud by me. See if you can spot all the switches. For fun, I also included some of the funniest suggestions provided me by Sudowrite at the end of the episode. If you'd like to try either of these AI-powered tools, simply go to Sudowrite.com, Descript.com, and check out The Creative Penn podcast for great insights into the ongoing development of these technologies and the way they will affect our lives, for better or worse, at TheCreativePenn.com. S01E10: Trick Readers Into Thinking You're An Expert, Part 1
No one is an expert about everything, but there are many people who are, in fact, experts about something. So how can we as authors convince our readers into thinking that we know what the heck we're talking about, without actually dedicating lifetimes to the study of every topic in existence? That's what I'm talking about in this podcast. And be sure to subscribe on the platform you're currently listening on for help to put into practice methods to trick your readers.
