Gusty winds will be common from the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley to the Eastern Seaboard, while heavy snow will impact areas of northeast Ohio, western Pennsylvania and southwestern New York. Meanwhile, elevated fire weather threats are expected in southern California from gusty offshore winds and dry conditions.

Elevated to brief critical fire weather conditions are expected in Southwest California through the week.

Dry and gusty conditions will bring elevated fire weather concerns over the weekend to southern California.

Flooding Continues in the Southeast; Above Average Temperatures from the Plains to the East Coast - Widespread significant flooding is ongoing across portions of the Carolinas and Virginia from Eta. Some locations along main stem rivers will remain in flood well into next week, as routed water makes its way across the coastal plains. Abnormally mild temperatures are likely with temperature ranging between 10 and 25 degrees above normal from the Plains to the East Coast.

Tropical-storm-force winds, life-threatening storm surge and heavy rainfall are expected while tornadoes and flooding are possible. Heavy rain may lead to flash flooding through Thursday from the southern Appalachians into the Mid-Atlantic states where a front is meeting Eta's moisture.

Eta will bring Tropical-storm-force winds, Life-threatening storm surge and heavy rainfall with a potential for flooding. Further North, heavy rain may lead to flash flooding Wednesday from the southern Appalachians into the Mid-Atlantic.

Eta Over the Southeast Gulf; Snow and Ice for Upper Midwest - Eta will slowly shift north across the eastern Gulf of Mexico through much of the rest of this week. Eta could approach the Florida Gulf Coast later this week as a tropical storm, and possibly bring impacts from rain, wind, and storm surge. A swath of freezing rain and sleet may lead a period of heavy snow from eastern Nebraska into northern Wisconsin Tuesday.

Powerful Storm in the West; Eta Forecast to Approach Southern Florida Later This Weekend - A deep, cold storm will bring numerous impacts to the western states this weekend. Heavy and blowing snow will develop in Montana, and across the Rocky and Southwestern Mountains, including the Grapevine in Southern California. Critical fire weather threats ahead of the front, and dangerous surf along the West can also be expected. Eta may produce up to 15 inches of rain in South Florida.

Tropical moisture in southern Florida may produce flooding in advance of the approach of Eta.

Western Storm Moving In; Watching Eta - Locally heavy rain continues in the Pacific Northwest through Thursday before a large storm moves into the West Friday and the weekend. Gusty to strong winds are forecast ahead of this storm which could create critical fire weather while cold air and strong winds on the back side could bring areas of heavy snow and blowing snow. Eta is being watched for potential impacts to Florida Sunday.

Quiet Weather Continues with Notable Precipitation Limited to the Northwest - A ridge of high pressure building across the contiguous U.S. will promote dry and quiet weather through at least midweek with the only exception being in the Northwest. A pair of cold fronts moving across the region will support areas of showers and high elevation snow. There is a marginal threat for heavy rainfall for coastal Washington and to the lee of the northern Cascades through Wednesday.

Continued much above average to record high temperatures for the Southwest into California along with continued poor air quality near ongoing fires - Much above average temperatures will continue from Californian through the Southwest and into the Great Basin. Much of this region will see high temperatures 10 to 15 degrees above average, with additional record high maximum and record high minimum temperatures possible across portions of California into the Southwest. With no changes to the overall pattern affecting the West Coast, air quality will remain poor near ongoing fires, especially in the central California valley region.
