That's What E Said

By Emma Golden Miller

With 13 years under her blogging belt and 35+ years as an exceptionally anxious person, writer Emma Golden Miller has mastered the art of making the everyday ordinary as extraordinary as possible via her website, EMMASTHING.com. Now she's decided to spend each week talking at you about her latest goings-on from personal updates and stories, to what she's reading/watching/listening to at the moment and everything in between. Listen every week to hear an anxious but otherwise relatively normal woman drop F-bombs, make jokes, and talk about nothing yet everything.

59. In My 36th Era: Thoughts On the Taylor Swift Concert (feat. Whitney)

On Tuesday 4/4, Emma turned 36 and decided there was no better way to spend the day than with her best friend (Whitney) and her one month old (August) as they recapped their experience at Taylor Swift's Eras Tour concert. Whitney is a Swiftie and has seen her three times in concert, whereas Emma is more Swiftie adjacent and this was her first time seeing her live, and they both have thoughts. Tune in to listen to two 30something millennials talk all things Taylor Swift, new motherhood, loud shows, and lots more!

57. De-Influencing Drama and the Influencer Industry

This week, sparked by a listener email, Emma gets on the mic to share some long suppressed thoughts about the wide world of influencing and who she refers to as "new age influencers." She offers her POV on the de-influencing trend, how some influencers are bastardizing and capitalizing from it, toxic vulnerability, and a lot more that she's been keeping a cap on for years. She also talks about how good the Moulin Rouge musical is, shares a few TV recs, and shares some super edgy, fun news that happened over the weekend! Mentioned in this episode: Moulin Rouge tickets Clifton Club (Dallas bar) Beverly's (Dallas restaurant) Truckyard (Dallas bar) Lessons in Chemistry (book) High Maintenance (TV show on HBO) Too Funny to Fail: The Life & Death of the Dana Carvey Show (HULU) Dance 100 (Netflix) Taylor Swift Eras Tour Playlist Miley Cyrus on Joe Rogan The Rogue Essentials Show edited by Alyssa Chrisope Follow TWES on Instagram Sign up for The Weekly Digress (an EMMASTHING newsletter) Follow EMMASTHING on Instagram

56. How the F*** I Stay Consistent with Diet and Exercise

56. How the F*** I Stay Consistent with Diet and Exercise

"Intentions mean nothing without action." This is the hard-won lesson Emma's had to learn and re-learn over the last few years when it comes to diet and exercise and, on today's episode, she's (power)walking you through it all from her POV. It all started in 2019 when she hired her personal trainer, Meg Morat, and it's been a rollercoaster ever since. In this episode, she's sharing the details about her weekly regime assigned by Meg, her commitment to re-dedicate herself to it at the start of this year, and what staying consistent has done for her so far. She speaks to motivation versus discipline, and what role each play in the never-ending game of consistency. Of course, as usual, she starts the episode with a recap of her weekend, including babies, St Patrick's Day shenanigans, and a terrible brunch, and shares her reviews of the Chris Rock special, the Marlon Wayans special, History of the World Part II, Crashing, and both Miley Cyrus's new album and Coldxman's new album.

This episode is full of the good stuff, so enjoy!

54. Somehow I Manage with Director of Shopper Marketing, Kelley McIntyre

This week, Emma asked her longest-standing best friend to join her on the podcast to discuss what it's like to be mom with a full-time, director-level role in the marketing industry. Kelley and Emma give a bit of their backstory, and Kelley explains her career journey, what makes a bad manager versus a good manager, being a powerful woman amongst male colleagues, and her undying love for Ludacris. During the WTH and RWL segments, Emma explores her relationship with Instagram and instant gratification, shares an exciting update about goings-on at the house, and discusses initial thoughts about a new podcast whose topic is J.K. Rowling. Also for those that plan to partake, the book of the month for March is Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus!

52. Simple, Solid Love Advice

In this week's episode, Emma answers some listener-submitted love advice questions that cover a variety of topics from keeping your sense of independence when moving in with your partner, why exes seem to magically appear nicer post-breakup, what to do when you make all the decisions in the relationship, and why you shouldn't feel behind if you're 34 and single. Emma also recounts a vodka-fueled Friday night clad with screaming Miley Cyrus lyrics, sobbing over the inevitable passing of her dog, meditation music, and vomit, gives brief chaotic updates on the state of their house that's undergoing mold remediation and foundation repair, and hints at a surprise guest on next week's first ever Book of the Month episode.

51. The Most WTF Things Men Have Said To Me

51. The Most WTF Things Men Have Said To Me

Valentine's may be one day, but Emma is capitalizing on the theme this month by making the next few episodes about love, dating, and relationships. To kick it off, Emma dug back through her blog archives to a post from 2017 titled "36 Of The Most WTF Things Men Have Said To Me," and in today's episode, she's reading it out loud for all to hear. You won't believe your ears, and that's kind of the point; sometimes, you have to kiss a lot of wastes of human life to find your Z. Emma ends the episode with the story of her worst date, and of course goes over what the hell she's been doing, and what she's reading & watching (Shrinking and Bad Sisters).

The first attempt of a TWES book of the month will be Carrie Soto Is Back by Taylor Jenkins Reid. We'll discuss the book on the February 23rd episode, so get your copy before then!

49. "No More Shortcuts" with Personal Trainer and Nutritionist, Meg Morat

Today's episode is long overdue. For the last (almost) four years, Emma has been working with personal trainer and nutritionist Meg Morat. Not only has Emma learned so much about diet, exercise, and everything in between, but her and Meg have formed a friendship, too (Meg was at the wedding!). In this episode, you'll hear Emma's usual WTHIBD (What The Hell I've Been Doing) + RWL (Reading, Watching, Listening), and then a full hour with Meg that covers a bunch of listener-submitted questions but far beyond those, too. Meg answers things like cardio or weights first? What is the perfect cardio to weight lifting ratio? Do fad diets or drugs work? How to start at home when you're not ready for the gym? How to get back into fitness postpartum, and SO much more. There's a lot of nuggets to be tucked away for later from this episode, and we hope you love it!

You'll get to know Zac from his POV and learn how someone so private ended up with someone so public and how, somehow, it's really worked out for them both. EZ for life, baby!

It's amazing how much can happen in such a short period of time. Or maybe it's just amazing to have the ability to make stories out of absolutely nothing. Regardless, Emma recaps her arrival back to Dallas, a both lovely and terrible bike ride downtown, backyard adventures and worm killing, how she straight up just locked her fiancé in the backyard Monday night, and her 3-hour spa day.
