21. How To Make Money As An Artist
Today I want to chat about something that makes a whole lot of people super uncomfortable.
Money.
I have found that many shy away from talking about money. For whatever reason that is, be it shame from not being where they would like to be financially, or not wanting to make friends or family who earn less uncomfortable, or because they don’t feel like its something that should be spoken about openly. If money talk makes you uncomfortable, then this is a must listen episode.
I have found that those in my circle that don’t want to talk money are usually the creatives. And when I have dug deep to find the primary reason there is a running thread between all the answers I have heard. And that is the struggling artist story. So in today's episode I unpack this outdated paradigm, and dive into ways that you can move past being the poor artist.
I chat about:
- The struggling artist story and why it's a problem
- How you can set yourself up to sell your art
- Key sales channels and their pros and cons
- One of the things I did to generate money as an artist in the pandemic
- Pricing Your Work
- The power of social media
and so much more

21. The Pressure To Constantly Be Making and Sharing Your Art (BONUS EPISODE)
Today I have been resting. Recovering. Today was my Sunday. And tomorrow I’ll hopefully be back in the studio. But interestingly despite being a day of rest I have been feeling obligated to show up on socials. Feeling like I need to keep posting. Keep sharing art. I enjoy showing up on socials. I love sharing my craft. But feeling obligated to share is not the greatest feeling. But it seems too common among creatives of late.
It feels like there’s a lot of pressure on creatives to constantly show up and share their art. To always be posting. To always be uploading new art. And it makes it incredibly hard to feel like you can keep up.
And so I discuss this in todays little bonus episode! It is a significant topic for many creatives who leverage social media and share their art online. It's something that NEEDS to be talked about. And so that's just what I did.
If you loved this episode, and I really hope you did, don't forget to leave a review and share it on your social feed of choice. Mine of course is instagram! You can find me there as @thecreativecodepod
20. Trusting The Process vs. Bypassing When Your Art Isn't Working
Trust in the process doesn’t mean bypassing feeling how shit it can be at times. The creative process is non linear, I talk about that a lot. But within that, something I have been seeing a bit lately is creatives who are going through a shit time - Be it life stuff or problems their facing in their creative business or just that their experience a creative block that they’re struggling to overcome - and not allowing themselves to sit in those emotions. Kinda of in the creative equivalent of spiritual bypassing.
We’re allowed to be human!! You don’t always have to put a positive spin on everything. You don’t always have to be sitting there repeating to yourself “it all happens for a reason” over and over. Because sometimes things are just straight up shit. You’re allowed to feel whatever might come up with that. You’re allowed to be angry, sad, frustrated, happy, or whatever else.
And I unpack all of this in this episode!

19. There Is No Right Or Wrong To Your Creative Flow
There is no right or wrong when it comes to creativity.
We often seem to observe others in their creative flow and compare ourselves, and think “oh that is what creativity is supposed to look like”. No. Our creativity is as unique as anything else about us. There is no right or wrong. There is no right way.
Creativity manifests itself differently in everyone. It’s not limited to those who identify as “creatives”. Creativity is for everyone. It feels different for everyone. It will look different for everyone.
Stop judging the worth of your creativity by comparing it to others. Don’t degrade your innate power like that.
It’s simply whatever comes to you naturally. And there is no right time, the spark of inspiration can ignite a flame when you least expect it. Observe yourself in the moments when you feel most creative compared to the moments where you feel zero creative spark whatsoever.
Are you not accepting the creative within you because of the simple “what if XYZ”?
Because we are all creative, and allowing that creativity to be nourished and to expand, is just too magical to put into words. And if you are craving that magic….. then listen to this episode!!
Of course don't forget to follow along over on insta @thecreativecodepod for all the content between episodes. If you loved this episode (and I really hope you did!) please take a moment to leave a review as this would really help us reach even more creatives!
18. You Are Doing Amazing! Creative Highs and Lows
Sometimes as creatives we fall into a bit of a creative rut, or things don’t go to plan, or looking deadlines get the better of us…. as entrepreneurs and artists sometimes life happens and suddenly we lose our creative mojo.
Recently this happened to me. I was so proud of myself for having absolutely aced my planning and scheduling for the first four to five months of 2021… and then life happened. An injury in February set me back two weeks, and then a huge dumping of rain in March slowed production to a screeching halt. I lost weeks of valuable making time to things totally out of my control. Getting back on top of things was highly stressful, something I had aimed to avoid this year. I actually did 9 kiln firings in April. Which is entirely unprecedented! And one of the big reasons thag the podcast episodes slipped. I just couldn’t keep up with all the things I usually do!
And so I wanted to record an episode about it! Naturally haha
Because I am positive that somewhere out there, there is a creative that needs to know they’re not alone.
The creative process isn’t linear. You are doing AMAZING! Seriously!
So thank you once again for joining me for the creative code podcast! If you loved this episode, and I really hope you did, don’t forget to leave a star rating and a review in iTunes. This would really help us get the word out to more creatives. In the meantime I hope you have a beautiful week, happy creating! And be sure to follow me over on instagram as @thecreativecodepod Ciao!

16. You Don’t Need A Big Social Media Following To Have A Successful Business
I am so tired of watching me judge myself and my business based off of how much engagement I have on social media. Because it doesn’t mean sh*t. Over the past couple of months I have been celebrating my creative successes (why we don’t do this more is wild to me), and it’s been amazing. I am so proud of myself and all I have achieve.
Yet… I still keep catching myself going through my Instagram analytics as if having a certain number of likes, comments, followers etc is a prerequisite for success.
It’s not.
So in this episode I dive into why you don't need a large social media following to have a successful business.

15. The Creative Code For Launching
Today I am sharing with you my story of how I went from uni student to full time in my small creative business.
When I started my biz I was met with stories that so many creatives are on the receiving end of from folks that just don’t get it.
"you'll never make money out of that"
"get a real job"
"you know nothing about running a business"
But with absolute faith in myself, and the knowing that you fail if you fail to try I started my journey. I have learnt a lot since then, and now I'm here to help you so that you can avoid some of the mistakes I made and set yourself up for success right from the start.
I don't ever want a creative to think that you don’t have what it takes, that no one will buy from you, that your art isn’t good enough yet to sell. That’s your ego talking! But also, I know how hard it can be to get out of that mindset. To shift into the new paradigm of being the abundant artist, the thriving creative. So I am sharing all about my new course which is jam packed with the logistical how-to, it also features a number of lessons to help you step into the expansive mindset that is a total game changer.

Hello and welcome back!!
I am so grateful to have you hear and so excited to be back sharing with you guys in this space! It's been a while!
I am here with the rebirth of this podcast, The Creative Code.
While many things from my initially podcast iteration will remain, this time, I have more fire than ever before. Because I have walked through the flames, across the coals, done the work, and am continuing to do the work. I know that the things that I will be sharing are the things I would have loved to have been told, to have known, two, three, four years ago when I was starting out.
I am here to help creatives shift from feeling insecure and lost in the creative world, to finding confidence and clarity.
I am here to help you find your creative style, something that took me until mere months ago to do. To share the stories of other creatives, because multiple perspectives and voices are needed and should be shared.
I am giving you your permission slip to do things differently. To do things your way. Fuck the rule book! Creativity shouldn’t ever be bound by rules.
The fresh title of the Creative Code is all about you finding your own code, finding your creativity, your voice, your path, your style. It’s about giving you the tangible tools and tips that you need to forge your own path, and live your life by your unique creative code. There is not one single code that works for everyone.
This is for you if you have ever felt lost, disheartened, insecure, unsure as a creative or in your creative business.
These episodes will be all about conscious conversations on all things creativity, confidence, finding your state of genius, energy and unpacking the paradigms that are keeping creatives in a state of struggle. Here we will celebrate contradictions, embrace individuality, support you in finding your style and voice, and share conversations with friends to dive even deeper. And you will walk away from each episode with tangible tips and truth bombs, that will help you pave your own path, utilise your creative license and find your confidence as an artist.

#5 The Fear of Failure
In this episode we are diving into the topic of fearing failure. I explore how fear of failing can be so strong that we don't take the first step, how it can result in us "settling", and why success and failure are besties!
Failure has become a close friend of mine. I used to be so terrified to fail, so terrified that I often wouldn't even do the thing! But reality is that not trying is to fail before you begin, and ready is a lie. You wont ever feel 110% ready, you just have to have faith in the process and make the jump. Just jump, Universe, Source, God, will be there.
To listen in iTunes click the podcast artwork. Otherwise you can find the episode in your favourite podcast streaming app, and be sure to hit subscribe so you get notified when new episodes are released!

15.30 - How NLP and Hypnosis can support your journey.
