One thing is for sure, the kaiju fandom and film critics alike are going crazy for this new Toho release – and its winning over fans and smashing records like no other film in the franchise. But – is it a perfect film? With Jake back from New York Comic-Con, the hosts discuss the big releases from Super7 - the good and the bad, plus other kaiju collectible news from Marusan and the Tsuburaya Store. In addition, our tandem updates each other on their own personal state of collecting..is Jake getting ride of his NECA Godzilla collection? Is Jay giving up on Mezco? Where do they stand with X-Plus? Does Jay have room for any more sofubi?   

Also, Jay shares his three big pick-ups including a new "top 5" piece of sofubi from SecretBase, a much anticipated X-Plus delivery, and some "creepy eyes".  Like, subscribe, but most importantly - ENJOY!

With the "Tattooed Titan of Tokusatsu" Jacob Walsh at NYCC this week, there won't be a traditional YHS on Monster Island show...however, Jay Key has continued his rankings of Ultra series episodes; this time, tackling Ultraseven!

In this release, Jay gives Jake a litany of possible antagonists for the upcoming Godzilla vs. Kong 2 - and the "Tattooed Titan of Tokusatsu" tells us why they would or wouldn't make sense. The conversation covers everything from the Rhedosaurus' claim as the "first kaiju", the timely usage of Ra Bradbury's "The Fog Horn", the film's importance in the kaiju genre, as well as a handful of tangents ranging from Bradbury's " A Sound of Thunder" to the charming nature of outdated dinosaur paleobiology.

It's not fair that Godzilla vs. Gigan gets ALL of the 50th anniversary love! There was another little Toho project that came out in 1972 - a co-production with Tsuburaya - that deserves some respect: Daigoro vs. Goliath! Okay, maybe deserving respect might be too much for this film - but hey, it...uh...exists. And "The Tattooed Titan of Tokusatsu" Jacob Walsh and his co-conspirator, Jay Key, are here to discuss this oft forgotten kaiju gem. From monster-sized toilets to excessive alcohol consumption to domestic violence, it has everything one expects in a kids' movie! However, the most compelling thing about Daigoro vs. Goliath is what it COULD have been!

It’s G-Fest versus San Diego Comic-Con. Monsters in the Midwest versus SoCal Kaiju. G-Fans versus sun tans. Our hosts discuss their recent trips to these beloved events and compare notes on all facets of the convention experience. “The Tattooed Titan of Tokusatsu” Jacob Walsh headed westward to try and tackle the biggest beast in the battle, the mecca of media news and the pinnacle of pop culture and celebrity – San Diego Comic-Con. He talks about his experience as press and thoughts on all of the huge news, reveals, and teases from Mondo, Super7, Mezco, Toho, and more. “The Mayor of Toku Toy Town” left the comforts of his soft vinyl home and ventured back to his old stomping grounds – Chicago – for a weekend of rubber suited madness! Jay enlightens us on his top moments from G-Fest – from the panels to the vendor hall, from meeting friends to meeting tokusatsu celebrities.  Both provide a nice glimpse into what each of these gatherings are like – warts and all!

But those weren’t the only two major events over the past few weeks…Tokusatsu DNA 2022 and Wonder Festival 2022 Summer both happened in Japan and produced a kaiju-sized quantity of new toy reveals from X-Plus, Sarujirushi, PassionTank, M1, U.S.TOYS, Marusan, and many more!

In a YHS on Monster Island first, the intrepid duo of daikaiju devotees, Jacob Walsh and Jay Key, have assembled a veritable pantheon of kaijuand tokusatsu experts to help them determine the winner of the Showa-Down Spectacular!

Thirty-two of the biggest and baddest giant monsters from the Showa era – from Godzilla to Gamera, King Kong to Red King – are pitted in a winner-take-all tournament; the outcomes determined by our hosts and their roster of heavy-hitting prognosticators from all corners of the kaiju creator landscape. Whether it’s the hosts of the popular kaijucollectibles YouTube show, Collect All Monsters; or monster artists royalty like Tom Whalen and Lisa Naffziger; or major influencers within the genre such as the Tokyo Toy Bastard and Pokehon; they offered their expertise to weigh in on some of the beastly battles.

But, despite spending much of their time on the tournament – Jay and Jake review weekly pick-ups because someone may have secured a personal holy grail (and this one won’t disappoint)!
