Sabotage

Sabotage

When you disrupt the way things are, you are going to be met by a natural phenomenon of change called sabotage. Sabotage is natural and normal when you are making changes to your life and organization. Most saboteurs think they are protecting the organization or protecting you because they are keeping everything in its place.

In today’s episode, Joe shares some stories of sabotage and what happens when you do not anchor yourself to the vision you have for your life or your organization.

Vision for your Life

The old proverb says, “where there is no vision, you get out of control.” For a lot of people when you ask why they feel out of control, feel lost, stagnant, etc, it’s because they either do not have vision or they have lost sight of their vision.

Peace on Earth & Goodwill to All

And wild and sweet
The words repeat Of peace on earth, goodwill to men!

Grace & Mercy

Grace & Mercy

Christmas is rarely perfect. We try hard to create the perfect Christmas with decorations, presents, and meals. We have all begun decorating for Christmas only to find the lights broken, ornaments misplaced, or the tree covered in mold. Parents, we have all been there Christmas Eve, looking all over the house for that one present we hid because we cannot remember where we hid it.

Still Christmas comes every year despite the imperfection.

Such grace and mercy should give us hope this, Advent. Despite our imperfection, Christmas still arrives.

Abide with me

Abide with me

As we move into the Christmas season, I wish to offer you some words of hope from an old hymn:

Abide with me; fast falls the eventide; The darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide; When other helpers fail and comforts flee, Help of the helpless, oh, abide with me.

  3. Volunteer at your local YMCA military welcome center. If you are in the OKC area, please schedule a time to volunteer at our YMCA military welcome center located at Will Rogers Airport.

Build a Beloved Community

Build a Beloved Community

Cultivating beloved community begins with seeing value in a person simply because they are valuable. Seeing our neighbor with value begins with seeing value in ourselves. It begins by loving the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and then loving our neighbor as ourselves. On this hang all the law and the words of the prophets.

By cultivating beloved community through seeing one another with value as a child of God, we lay the strong foundation to build a beloved community.

Interrupt Our Dinner

Interrupt Our Dinner

The ones who recognize Jesus, are not the insiders.

They are them.

They are the outsiders.

Funny thing is at one time or another, you and I have been there.

We too have been them.

Sometimes we need someone to interrupt our dinner to remind us of God’s extravagant love.

Self-Care

Self-Care

Self-care is anything you do to take care of yourself for your wellbeing. Almost anything can be considered an act of self-care. Here are a few often used examples: taking a nap, reading a book, or going for a walk. I want to argue that self-care is deeper than simply making time to read a book. It’s more than what we call a technical change, which is a type of change to address an immediate problem. It’s an adaptive change in which you are intentionally setting aside time in your day, week, month, or year, to do something that cares for your wellbeing. Self-care is something you do that is life-giving and helps you function at your best.

Get to the Chopper

Get to the Chopper

By getting to the chopper, we get out of the jungle and above the issue at hand and see the multiple triangles existing in my son’s life that may be negatively influencing him, positively influencing him, or what behaviors and habits we need to help establish at home to help him be successful. By getting to the chopper, we not only can see better, but we also remove ourselves from the triangle while staying emotionally connected to our son, his teacher, and the conflict at hand. We then can lower the chopper, re-enter the triangle, and help my son function in a healthy way.

Anxiety

Anxiety

One way to look at the world and ourselves is to see how we are all connected in a system, and each action or reaction in the system sends out a ripple. Based on the family system we originated from, we have a specific reaction to the ripple.

Functioning Amid a Challenge

Functioning Amid a Challenge

Being an agent in God’s mission to heal the world means you are going to disrupt the homeostasis of the community you live in. You’re going to disrupt the “way we do things around here” and people are going to emotionally react to the change you are inciting because the change you are inciting is change that heals the world. That kind of change that raises the dead.

Self-differentiation

Self-differentiation

Self-differentiation is being able to separate yourself from the emotional process of a system such as your family, work, friends, etc. while staying connected. It is being able to have different opinions and values than others in your organization and stay emotionally connected to them. In an organization system or family system self-differentiation is being clear about your role in the system and clear about your identity outside the system. Not allowing the system to define your identity.

Transform the Community

Transform the Community

The beautiful thing about the Y-Clubhouse is that the director (Yesica Gonzales), coordinators, and program staff are people within those communities. It is a community developing its community by  loving them, serving them, and caring for them.

For me, the Y-Clubhouse is a sacred space in which agents in God’s mission to heal the world are actively transforming their community.
