Meeting with Happiness Coach Talu Sehar-Eckhoff

Meeting with Happiness Coach Talu Sehar-Eckhoff

As part of our podcast in 2024, we are meeting with fellow coaches in the Empower Village who bring a different perspective or specialty for not only the aged out youth from the orphanages we support but also the greater public.

Happy Matters Coaching https://www.happy-matters.com/coaching was founded by Talu.

Her background from the website:

Origin

Born and raised in London, my ethnic Origin is Indian. Brought up with mixed cultures, religions and three languages, I struggled for years trying to 'fit in', and how to answer the question 'where are you from?'.

Education

Not realising at the time these inner questions lead me to study the travel industry, looking for answers about myself.  After graduating my MSc in Air Transport Management, I felt even more determined to get to know our planet and discover myself.

Journey

I met my partner along this journey and we shared the same passion to work and live in other countries, like …. Switzerland, Germany, Indonesia, the US and most recently China. During these adventures I also worked in consulting, Marketing, Real Estate and teaching English. I thoroughly enjoyed all my different roles during that time and felt that somehow everything was connected. What I realised today even with all the constant changes I within was stretched to such highs and lows, looking for self satisfaction and happiness within, yet one thing was clear I was drawn to people, whether it be teaching, communicating with and supporting.
Also growing up with mixed religions, left many opens questions in my mind, about our purpose and path. Having to adapt to different situations and always re-starting  I yearned inner balance and peace.

Learning

Back then twenty years ago self help books, spiritual books and attending self help courses started my journey in recognising my awareness and how to listen to my inner voice to enjoy living in the moment .... Wherever I was at that given time and no matter where I was from, or what my spiritual belief was. My religion today is simply being a giving, loving & supporting human being, whilst guiding my children aged 12 & 10. It gives me great pleasure watching then grow and be the future global generation. My family time is where I am home.

Purpose

A mother of two children, a global citizen and baggage of experience in change and cultures, I have come to realise my purpose …. to facilitate you on your journey to self awareness & happiness.  I chose to complete my coaching course in London with Unitive Coaching, having had one-to-one sessions with Charles Bentley. It became clear on my very first session that this holistic mindful approach is exactly what I was looking for.

Coaching

Let me provide the support you need, being your mirror so you can see your inner power! Life can be such a beautiful and fulfilling journey, re-connect with your true happy being.

Sasha Lee Hagues-Seals from Legacy Foundation Japan and giving back.

Sasha Lee Hagues-Seals from Legacy Foundation Japan and giving back.

Today we had the pleasure of catching Sasha with a few spare minutes in her busy day of looking after everyone and talked about her work at Legacy Foundation Japan and how important it is to be grateful about where you are but even if someone takes one day to give back, that can make all the difference in the world for someone else.

Whether in her own family or the work with the Legacy Foundation, it is a place for people to feel at home and comfortable asking and receiving help. Instilling that sense of belonging in a community even through the birth of the foundation during COVID and the extraordinary challenges it not only presented but need to be addressed.

We ended the talk with the simple question, "What if you didn't do what you do?"

Listen to hear what she had to say!

Dr.Lois Holzman and Dr.Makiko Kishi on “How to help people ask for help and help themselves.”

Dr.Lois Holzman and Dr.Makiko Kishi on “How to help people ask for help and help themselves.”

Today we were so fortunate to have Dr.Lois Holzman who founded the East Side Institute in New York and Dr.Makiko Kishi of Meiji University join us to talk about how to help people ask for help and help themselves.
Approaching problems with their toolkit. Not trying to solve problems for the population we work with but rather letting them be part of the solution. For some problems (issues in life) we need to make new tools and not only try to use tools we already have.
Going against the grain and realizing you get better at doing things when you do them with other people, some of whom are better at it than you.

Interview with teacher Ruth Ingulsrud of JOEE NPO

Interview with teacher Ruth Ingulsrud of JOEE NPO

We were very happy to catch up with Ruth Ingulsrud who collaborates with us in the homes. We always wondered why the younger children at St.Francis were so conversant compared to the older kids we had in our computer classes. Our routine at St.Francis has always been to say hello to the 4-6-year-olds while they are eating dinner and asking them questions and listening to them. When we would leave they would say "See you next time!" Generally, 6 pm-7 pm is dinner, 7 pm-8 pm is playtime and the bed for them.

We then discovered that Ruth was teaching the children originally in person with her puppets who cannot speak Japanese so while Ruth is bi-lingual she tried to explain to the kids that the puppets need their help in explaining and talking to them in English.

The kids love the puppets, they often will hug and kiss them and they talk with them. Meanwhile, Ruth is using vocabulary we are also introducing in the NightZooKeeper mission lessons.

During the pandemic, JOEE did not miss a chance to connect online as their number of teachers grow and currently we are collaborating online in St.Francis and Wakamatsu Ryo in Nagoya and looking to expand this teaching in such a fun and curious way.

Hidden Assets

Hidden Assets

The 30,000 children living in the orphanages of Japan are the future. They are not the "throw away children" but the "Hidden Assets". Children born today will live on average to 107 in Japan, well into the 22nd century. Therefore taking the time to mentor and help a child today will last a lifetime.

Our First YouMeWe NPO Podcast

One of our 19 year old Ambassadors set this up for us and we want to use this channel to convey messages about the work we are doing in the homes.

We look forward to interviewing our sponsors, fundraisers, volunteers, staff and ambassador (adult children aged out of the home)

And much more. Thank you for listening. Apologies for the children voices in the background, a closed door with me speaker is very tempting for them to open and walk in.
