S1 E6 - The Importance of Baby Massage
Have you ever wondered the significance of touch for human beings? Is it really all that important? Can we really live long and healthy lives without it? In this episode with Helen Thompson, we chat about the importance of positive human touch. How do we teach our tiny humans what positive and healthy touch is when there's so much focus on negative and unhealthy touch? Discover the significance of touch for the human being and some concerns surrounding how current global events are being handled. We also talk about body autonomy and teaching the next generation the basic human right to say, "no" to another human being and be heard and respected. S1 E5 - What's the difference between a doula, a midwife, and a birthkeeper?
I've recently been spending an increasing amount of time explaining the differences between what a doula does and what a midwife. Lots of people think they are the same thing when they most certainly are not. In this episode I'll give you brief overviews of what doulas, midwives, and birthkeepers do to help clear up the confusion surrounding this birth terms. This is a great podcast to listen to if you're planning your first birth experience, or if you're a friend or family member to someone planning to give birth without modern day pain killers and other medications. Doing so may seem odd to you because who in their right mind would want to feel all of that pain, right? The fact is that we've learned a lot about birth over the past century that helps us understand why bringing humans into the world while the mother is using medications may not be the best idea humans have ever had. I do not go into full detail about what doulas, midwives, and birthkeepers do. I simply give you the highlights to help you better understand their differences.  Visit Angie's website at AngieTaylorFairyGodMentor.com to learn more about how to confidently navigate pregnancy, birth and finding balance in an unbalanced world with your very own birth insider and Fairy GodMentor guiding you. S1 E3 - What's the big deal about prenatal nutrition?
If you've listened to my first podcast you know a little bit about the importance of nutrition during pregnancy. The fact is that expectant couples are led to believe that nutrition has little to do with a healthy pregnancy and positive outcome. The truth is that we've known since the 1940's the importance of prenatal nutrition.  Dr. Tom Brewer took it upon himself to dive further into nutrition and its importance during pregnancy. He created the Brewer Pregnancy Nutrition Program, used it in his own practice for over 20 years and was astounded by the number of his colleagues who wanted nothing to do with his discovery and subsequent nutritional program. He couldn't understand why his colleagues wouldn't want to be able to offer the same outcomes to their patients as his patients were having. The baby's born to his patients weighed between 7 1/2 pounds and 9 1/2 pounds at birth and often came into the world at or after 40 weeks. His patients never experienced any of the "pregnancy induced" illnesses that were the norm for his colleagues.  Dr. Brewer's pregnancy diet is still available to women today and can be found at DrBrewerPregnancyDiet.com. Enjoy this podcast as I explain the big deal is and why every pregnant woman needs this information. Getting this nutritional program into the hands of pregnant women everywhere has the potential to change the way we, as humans, view pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period. YES! Prenatal nutrition really is THAT important! S1 E1 - It Doesn't Prove Competence
We've all been taught to only hire licensed or certified people. This is supposed to be because it means a third party has confirmed that they know what they claim to know.  Sadly, it's been my experience - where birthing tiny humans is concerned - that licensing and/or certification does not necessarily prove competence.  In this episode I share, briefly, my personal experience with a licensed and certified midwife that led to a still born. I do not name names, nor locations. This episode is not about hanging anyone out to dry nor to bring harm to anyone. It is a true story that needs to be told from the perspective of a midwife who has questions that will never be answered.  If you'd like to start your own journey into the question of whether or not licensing or certifying of midwives does good or harm, read Making Midwives Legal: Childbirth, Medicine and the Law by Raymond DeVries.
