Real quick: here's a move from the late 90's about a band that was big in the 70's mounting a reunion tour and having to face some demons in the process.
Stephen Rea, Bill "knuckles" Nighy, Billy Connolly, Jimmy Nail and some other bastards you probably won't know.

an unfulfilled promise, potential left on the table, a dream left to die, a film that could have soared...

Instead we talk prosthetic limbs, getting mom's attention in public, Back to the Future.

Z almost fell asleep, Keith was inspired by the soundtrack, we both were confused.

Join us and these surprisingly unhorny teens for a not very gorey weekend in the woods with a lot of beer, a lot of soup, and a redundant villain.

Wrapping on Jameuary we revisit the 90's classic romcom/Western military hegemony, True Lies (1994). Just a lot of misogyny masquerading as romance and uh i guess... spycraft? this film wastes so much of the talents on hand. 

To lighten the mood, we touch on such topics as legislative applications of religious doctrine, abuse on set, tales in ID-ing, plus we revisit the Legend of the Sonny Edits.

Here, dear reader, listener, lover, we bring you a movie full of wasted talents. A tale as threadbare and tedious as any we've discussed before. It askes the hard questions of "can a woman with a gun be a victim?" or "can a man get away with it?" and "is murder a justifiable punishment for sexual assault?"

So, y'know heavy trigger warnings for this one.

Well dear listeners, here we have come to the end of another season together. To close it out, we bring you a foreign film in a foreign land: Three Fugitives (1989) We find the unlikely duo of Nick Nolte and Martin Short forced to team up to evade police and save Short's little girl.

Naturally, many many hijinks are had. We also discuss physical acting theory and Cpt. Janeway's hairpiece. Plus we try to summarize our feelings about season 4.

Heyo- This week we bring you a film that's long been on our list: Postcards from the Edge (1990). Based on Carrie Fischer's semi-autobiographical novel of the same name, the movie follows a middle-aged daughter of a famous actress who is herself an actress struggling to find herself while also navigating addiction, the industry, horrible men and her mother. You will also hear about Keith's long lost connection to the industry, hot takes on Australians, CCH Pounder's accent and iceberg lettuce. Plus our recipe for "tacos blancos"

Here we are driving a stake through the heart of Nosferatu November with Michael Mann's The Keep (1983). And what a great way to go out!

What do you get when you cross the creator of Miami Vice with Nazis at the height of their hubris encountering an ancient supernatural evil in Dracula's homeland? We couldn't tell you. You'll just have to see for yourself.

Meanwhile, stay safe and watch out for busters!

After The Addiction, we had a bad taste in our mouths.

But this film was a Mentos for the senses!

We have Hartley alumni Donovan and Löwensohn plus an impressive supporting cast that includes a surprisingly fun Peter Fonda and an sadly brief Jared Harris.

Building on Bram Stoker's source material and set in contemporary NYC, this movie manages be funny, charming, heavy, and technical craftiness without veering to far into navel-gazing.

We give it three chef's kisses!

Blah! Our second entry for Nosferatu November is 1995's The Addiction. From the same writer/director team that brought you The King of New York comes this b&w philosophical wank--I mean meditation on the nature of man's relationship to addiction. Only not really. Along the way we weigh in on internalized victim blaming, Natalie Wynn, and I Shot Andy Warhol (again). Your welcome (again).

Spook-a-thon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !and we bring you yet another made-for-TV adaptation of a Stephen King piece that you've probably never heard of. While not the best thing you've seen, nor even of this micro-genre, it avoids some of the pitfalls and cliches of many of its cellmates. With risky sound design, impressive sfx and interesting reveals, this one might just be worth your time. +++++

We were delighted by this movie that we knew next to nothing about. 1986's Trick or Treat (aka Ragman, aka, Death at 33 RPM) serves Faustian themes vs the PMRC, Skippy meets Satanic panic. Great effects and solid performances allows this film to punch above its weight.

Along the way they encounter hijinks, hard truths, a busted clutch assembly and women who challenge them. The two of them I mean. The womens don't challenge clutch assemblies. At least not on camera... Brian Flota is a Humanities Librarian & Associate Professor at James Madison University, inventor of hot food in machines and lifelong confederate of Stu Wankovits. We kick off a month of Hal Hartley films, appropriately enough, with his first feature length - The Unbelievable Truth (1989). Starring Robert John Burke, the incomparable Adrienne Shelly, plus a whole host of soon-to-become regulars, this movie really tickles us in the Trust bone.

A must watch for Hartley fans and well, probably everyone.

We're just closing out July with Critters (1987) -- a film neither of us had seen, Keith remembers from video store shelves and that Z was almost entirely unaware of.

Like removing a gangrenous toe, we check off another film from Keith's rewatch bucket list.

Just another sad story about a upper middle class white man failuring his way up: aka, 1980s Tom Cruise's bread & butter, apparently. Plus more on psychopathy vs neurotypicality from some armchair auties and we FINALLY weigh in on Ana & Cenk's recent lean into transphobia.

From a negative early VHS experience to this, likely the ONLY film Keith has ever seen on CED, first impressions are definitely first. Long on our to rewatch list, this one did not fair well.

Plus hear about how we recently went with out electricity for 22hrs! Whitt Castle, if you're out there- holler back.

Finally- the film Keith watched with his mother and grandparents which contained enough nudity that Keith's mom was mortified. Not for nuthin, one of Robin Williams' first dramatic roles.

Our queer asses were caught off guard by this movie! Apparently as essential to Sapphic culture as "The Dinah", neither of us had even heard of this film before scheduling it for this month. But with its disarming earnestness and bucking of tragegay™ tropes, it's easy to see why it's considered a classic.
