History, and daily life keeps showing us how vulnerable we are to ‘the truth’. What is the truth? 🧐 We think something is true, until it’s not true anymore, until there is a better truth… a better truth because it became demonstrably true, and contradicts or suppresses the previous one. 👍👎👀 This episode is the first one of our deep dive on paradigms #truth #paradigm #paradigmshift #change #podcast #cosmic #labyrinth #mind #thearts #crashlanding #science #scientific #religion #toneofvoice #storytelling #narratives
Celebrities & The Authenticity Dilemma [clip from Live - 26/02/2021]
This is an audio clip from the live video "Celebrities & The Authenticity Dilemma" streamed the 26th of february 2021, availabe here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rlqdJQA8UiU.
The pandemic has disrupted relations among the masses, the elites and the celebrities who liaise between them. In 2020, the NY Times wrote an article titled “Celebrity Culture Is Burning” and the year has been rich in scandals highlighting expectations that influencers of culture step into social debates to help audiences make sense of the world around them. In this video, Camille clarifies our research angle on the subject matter and asks one key question that helps navigate the space of celebrity culture with total clarity. #celebrityculture #celebrities #culture #narrative #social #environmental #change #communications #psychology #storytelling #media #business #attention #trust #intimacy
Is Disgust a good strategy ? [clip from live - 11/02/2021]
This is an audio clip from the live video "Is disgusting people a good idea?" streamed the 11th of february 2021, availabe here: https://youtu.be/jKVDr4AvCPQ.
Is Disgusting People a Good Idea? One strategy that has been used quite a bit over the last years in change communications, and in particular in food industry documentary films 🍕🥩🍖🧀is the use of disgust 🤢… to turn people off meat consumption for instance. Is disgust a good strategy? Does it work? With who? Under what conditions? What should we know?🤔

The Artist & The Impact Frame [Clip from Live - 09/02/2021]
This is an audio clip from the live video "The Artist & The Impact Frame" streamed the 9th of february 2021, available here: https://youtu.be/wkpyiaaut4o
Measuring social and environmental impact is a slippery slope! And even more for the share of artists who consider the impact factor in their work. One very legitimate question that often gets asked is: “how much of the left brain should the artist put into framing a production” and is it really the artist's role to think about impact?
The short answer is: “only you can answer!”
The longer answer is Camille’s clarification of Cosmic’s perspective in this video.

As interest in “the right brain side” of human society is growing, the buzz around “boosting the creative economy” can get confusing. Does investing in creative industries mean more money towards Culture & the Arts? Not quite...

#28 - (rebroadcast) The Structure of Your Mental World. [Cosmic Dynamics]
Art piece of the day by Julie Cambell
It’s quite disarming to realise that the way we experience life is mostly based on the structure of our mental world, and that the structure of our mental world affects our reality. Is it that obvious? Is this true? How so? And what does it mean for the stories we tell and the work we produce as artists and influencers of culture?

#025 - (rebroadcast) Is Disgusting People a Good Idea? [Cosmic Dynamics]
Today we feature a piece from Austrian performance artists & architects Honey & Bunny. One strategy that has been used quite a bit over the last years in change communications, and in particular in food industry documentary films is the use of disgust … to turn people off meat consumption for instance. Is disgust a good strategy? Does it work? With who? Under what conditions? What should we know? The Art of Disentifying [Cosmic School]

#047 - Coming in Touch With That Feeling [Cosmic Dynamics]
Camille just opened up an important conversation about the change agent & the culture of change communications. It starts with his personal story.
If this theme resonates with you and you want to become part of the conversation as well as explore the keys of the method Camille has designed, the launch webinar will take place on Tuesday 19th of January at 4pm CET (10am Eastern Time).
We wish you the very best for 2021!

#43 - The Mirrors in You [Cosmic Dynamics]
I’m actually not surprised the US election turned into such a tight race. Actually, just the fact that the current President would even have a chance to win again - after all of the scandals and tweets and political horror of the last four years, that very fact is not surprising at all… Why? Because there is one thing he knows very well and most people don’t…
Thanks for tuning in,
Camille.
Cosmic #44 (rebroadcast) - The Power of Subversive & Confusing - w/ Dotmasters [Livemix from 23/04/20]
Recording from the live mix broadcasted on 23/04/20 on www.cosmic.show I interviewed Leon Seesix aka Dotmasters about his approach to the artistic practice, the meaning of his 20+ years in the field and the do’s and don’ts of artistic collaboration.
This episode contains explicit language, and very strong insights.
Produced & mixed by Camille Duran. Music & Sounds curated by Etienne Previtali.
#042 - I Don't Have Time [Cosmic Dynamics]
Our relationship to the present moment has been broadly dying across western culture for decades now, because of the narratives, the structures, the systems that make it so “time is money”, the narratives that make it so we don’t have the time, and so we listen to podcasts in 2X.
Thank you for tuning in, Camille.
#041 - Tribute to 1X [Cosmic Dynamics]
“I have been listening to podcasts for close to a decade now and cosmic is the first one that I'm listening to at 1x. I know it doesn't seem like much but this is the first show to prompt me to take my time. To go slow. To relax and still move with conviction that change can be brought”.
This episode is a tribute to taking the time.

#040 - Polarizing vs. Unifying [Cosmic Dynamics]
Today I am offering a few thoughts about tweeting, commenting, debating on corporate green washing announcements vs. not spending any time on this, regardless of that burning feeling inside. Let’s do a post-benefits analysis, Shall we?

#039 - Knowledge is Useless [Cosmic Dynamics]
It happened after a long day. It was like...11pm, I was tired, laying down on my sofa, ready to go to bed. Checking in messages and stuff on my smartphone. And for whatever reason, I mechanically opened Linkedin and started browsing publications, which I very rarely do… even in the daytime. Scrolling down a couple of times. And here it was, the perfect trap, in my feed. Of course, I fell into it…
This episode features the work of Stefan Kuhnigk @thecoffeemonsters. He draws monsters from coffee stains, I love his work, and it’s the perfect way to reflect on the systemic stains made by the conventional coffee world, and clarify how we should go about it.
Stay tuned.
#038 - The Argument Tragedy [Cosmic Dynamics]
Do you ever argue with your partner, with your roommate, with your mother, or whoever you are living with. Yes? Maybe? I am sure you noticed that what you argue about is never really the reason for the argument. Couples don’t break up because one of them did not empty the dishwasher...
It seems there is always something bigger, something unacknowledged that is overshadowing the apparent topic of the argument. Right?
Today we are featuring the Sculpture “Migratory Soul” by Josh Keyes which you can find here: https://www.instagram.com/joshkeyes.art/
Thank you for tuning in, Camille.
#037 - Cosmic Trip [Cosmic Dynamics]
There is a story I have been wanting to tell for a few days, but I was too busy pinching myself because I couldn’t believe what was actually happening.
Ok, it’s time… Last week, when getting to my desk, there was a package on the table. I have no idea how it got here. It had “Cosmic” written on it. So I opened it. There was a postcard in there, handwritten with a sort of weird glowing ink that I had to put in the sunlight for maximum clarity. I couldn’t believe what was written on it, and what else was in this package...
Thank you for tuning in.
#036 - The Air Time Dilemma [Cosmic Dynamics]
If you produce art, media, stories about what’s going on in the world, there is one tough decision you’re probably dealing with, especially if you have a significant following..
How much air time should I give to this topic, to this story, … isn’t it getting enough air time already? How is my piece influencing the discussion, really? Let’s deconstruct what’s going on here: let’s talk about how air time impacts our lives…
Thank you for tuning in.
#035 - OFF [Cosmic Dynamics]
Sometimes it feels we will never make it… whatever that means… “we will never make it” “it’s too late” “There are too many things to fix, in too little time… Let’s think about this for a second...

#018 (rebroadcast) Too Soon for Black Humour? [Cosmic Dynamics]
It might be a good time to open a chapter on humour, the most powerful tool of them all… I like to think :)
It’s fair to say that it plays a central role in the media environment, it shapes how we understand ideas, social boundaries and even logic.
Tomorrow for our weekly live mix I will be revisiting an interview I produced last year with Pieter de Poortere, the creator of the hilarious comics character Dickie

#022 (rebroadcast) Sexing Up the Root Causes [Cosmic Dynamics]
This episode features “Paisatges de Plàstic” an art piece by Elena Villalba, Xénia Cros, Pau Galceràn, Oriol Ruiz and Lydia Moreno from the Art School of Olot @artdissenyolot in Catalunya.
There are things happening in the world that are extremely harmful to society and to the environment, but are quite... boring to talk about. Boring because it’s complex, It’s visually non appealing, it’s distant, it’s silent, it’s grey…
How do we deal with this as a society, in an era where people's attention span is shorter than ever and the competitive media landscape pushes content production to the edges of dramatic, sensational, crazy, and... “you won’t believe what happens next”? This is a real question for artists, storytellers and other influencers of culture who care about impact: how do we deal with “important, but not sexy”…

#017 (rebroadcast) Unleashing a Legion of Story Monsters [Cosmic Dynamics]
“Things have never been so good for humanity” “There’s never been a better time to be alive” “We’ve never had it so good than right now”. These couple of lines are very meaningful because when we accept this narrative as a truth, we open the door to a legion of story monsters that invade culture and society’s common sense.
In connection to this episode I am featuring the work of Scott Listfield, who’s known for his paintings featuring a lone exploratory astronaut lost in a landscape cluttered with pop culture icons, corporate logos, and tongue-in-cheek science fiction references.
It’s a great way to reflect on the present, the past and the future maybe? Remember it starts with the words we pick, and the stories we chose to tell.

#033 - Do NOT Listen To This Episode - part 2
Do NOT listen to this episode.
Features the poem “Negation” by Wallace Stevens:
Hi! The creator too is blind,
Struggling toward his harmonious whole,
Rejecting intermediate parts,
Horrors and falsities and wrongs;
Incapable master of all force,
Too vague idealist, overwhelmed
By an afflatus that persists.
For this, then, we endure brief lives,
The evanescent symmetries
From that meticulous potter's thumb.

#031 - Music & Language - Part 2 [Cosmic Dynamics]
Can music avoid the need for these words that have become so… limiting in many ways. Can it expand our horizons across human processes and have some sort of a regenerative effect on human communications?
We are preparing an experiment on this topic, involving musicians, words, and a tough communication challenge. If you want to participate or attend from online, please send us an email at hello@cosmic.show and we’ll tell you more about it, we’re working on the how right now and will mail the Cosmic community when we have a detailed program.
In this soundtrack by @christianscottofficial you can hear the immense talent of flutist @ElenaPinderhughes, which I am symbolically connecting to this episode and to this 40 000 year-old bone flute crafted in mammoth ivory. Gourmet food for the right brain!

Art piece of the day: Logos, a remarkable album by French jazz trio Zylia. They put forward a very sophisticated language, at a moment of human history where our relation to words and language has become so cynical...

#029 - Undoing Social Art Space Contradiction [Cosmic Dynamics]
In the art space, when a gallery or museum showcases
work about #social or #environmental issues, there sometimes is an uncomfortable contradiction between the context and messages conveyed by the art pieces on display, and what the exhibition space emanates. Have you experienced that? Or is it just me…?
@zerowasteexhibition seems to be taking steps in the right direction to align the experience of the exhibition with the messaging of the showing. Don’t miss if you’re around Leipzig this week!

Cosmic #52 - Giving Yourself the Permission To Be Creative - w/ Jasmine Pradissitto
“Imagination is more important than knowledge” 🧠(Einstein). It makes a nice quote on instagram but are we really considering this as a society?🤔
With society and culture increasingly relying on the left brain, we are removing ourselves from our full capacities as a species. Artist & Physicist Jasmine Pradissitto @jasmine_pradissitto joined me on Cosmic Live to remind us how we can reclaim our creative selves and reconnect with the creative geniuses that we are at 5⃣ years of age. The real question is: are we giving ourselves the permission to be truly creative?

Recalling the work of Paul Rucker, from 2018 in Richmond.

#023 - Magic Messaging in a Song [Cosmic Dynamics]
No talking today, just a song that magically came up in my playlist while I was writing up yesterday’s episode (Cosmic #022). A beautiful art piece by Daughter, which illustrates masterful messaging, and masterful execution, and a song written from intentions that may be completely different from the ones we may be assuming… who knows? That’s what’s cosmic about it randomly popping up yesterday….Enjoy!
Lyrics from the song “Landfill” by Daughter
Throw me in a landfill
Don't think about the consequences
Throw me in the dirt pit
Don't think about the choices that you make
Throw me in the water
Don't think about the splash I will create
Leave me at the altar
Knowing all the things you just escaped
Push me out to sea
On a little boat that you made
Out of the evergreen that you helped your father cut away
Leave me on the tracks
To wait until the morning train arrives
Don't you dare look back
Walk away
Catch up with the sunrise
'Cause this is torturous electricity
Between both of us and this is
Dangerous 'cause I want you so much
But I hate your guts
I hate you
So leave me in the cold
Wait until the snow covers me up
So I cannot move
So I'm just embedded in the frost
Then leave me in the rain
Wait until my clothes cling to my frame
Wipe away your tear stains
Thought you said you didn't feel pain
Well this is torturous electricity
Between both of us and this is
Dangerous, 'cause I want you so much
But I hate your guts. I want you so much
But I hate your guts.
Well this is torturous
Electricity between both of us
And this is dangerous 'cause I want you so much
But I hate your guts
I want you so much but I hate your guts
