E08 - Production Houses, Ad Films and Cinematography with Director of Photography, Anup J Kattukaran.
Mr Anup J Kattukaran, or Anup J 'Kat' as he prefers, is a photographer, cinematographer and founding partner of 1st December films - a production house based out of Mumbai, which has created several award winning advertisements. 1st December films has worked with some of the biggest agencies and brands in the country, and has won several awards including 7 Cannes lions. Anup himself is India's first ever Director of Photography to have won a Clio award. Anup has filmed ads for Nike, Star Sports, Google, Sony and other brands starring Hrithik Roshan, Kareena Kapoor and other big names in the entertainment industry.
In this episode I try to understand what an ad film shoot looks like, the day to day of a director of photography and fundamentally how production houses function. Anup is also one of the few photographers in the country who dabbles with underwater photography and has done quite a few successful shoots so we also get into the details of that for a bit.

James Earnest condenses almost 3 decades of his experience in the board gaming industry for us in this extremely informative episode. While I ask a million questions about board game ideation, themes, styles and game mechanics, James more eloquently adds to his answers his perspective of having been a freelancer, having started his own company ie Cheapass Games, starting a new company ie Crab Fragment Labs and finally even helps me design a quarantine board game!
We also cover play testing, marketing, distribution and how Kickstarter has had an enormous influence in this industry. E04 - 40 years of golfing with MaryLou Mulflur, Head coach of UW Women's Golf Team
While golfing has been stereotyped to be the old white man's game, it's actually one of most involved, difficult sports of all time.
In today's episode we decontruct MaryLou Mulflur's 40 year stint in golfing out of which she spent 37 coaching the UW women's golf team. Her players are phenomenal and have gone on to win the NCAA National Championship in 2016.
We cover the rules of golf, how it has evolved over the years, life as a coach, her coaching philosophy, borrowing strategies from game plays and creating a winning team year on year. We also learn about physical and mental fitness for players and preparation leading upto golf tournaments.
