3rd Culture Kids

By 3rd Culture Kids

Welcome! We are the 3rd culture kids - basically, we got some wine and thought that our conversations should be publicly available. Join us as we talk about all things life, the diaspora, bare jokes (and a lot of Akosua's nonsense) - from the perspective of three women existing in an intersection of multiple cultures. It's your girl Akosua from Ghana, Michelle from Zimbabwe and Ritual from Kenya, coming at you Live from Vancouver, Canada.

Mama?!! --- the band is breaking up.

Mama?!! --- the band is breaking up.

It's so hard to say goodbye. Yes, yes, yes, we know and we can see the teardrops all around. But like all good things, this also must come to an end. Join us this week for our official studio (haha virtual COVID studio) send-off. We've had laughs --- Akosua mostly, we've had bants but most of all we've had wonderful conversations and memories that will last us multiple lifetimes. Thank you so much to all of you who have listened to us and shared with us. You are the real MVPs. For the last time, it's been your girls, Ritual, Akosua, and Michelle signing out from Vancouver ---- which still has like 5 Black people.

Ooohhh It's the post-grad blues ft Banele

Ooohhh It's the post-grad blues ft Banele

Graduation is a-knocking and we guess it's time to start adulting. Lets not even reflect on the number of quarter-life crises that have kept us up at night. First, we changed our major twice, then our minor ten times and now we've got to map out a whole career? Join us this week to lament on our hopes, fears, and desires for life after uni. Most importantly we hear the perspective of someone who actually has their *bleep* together as our dear friend and recent grad, Banele, joins us from across the pond. We cant promise we say anything conclusive but trust that you'll feel like you are not alone.

When I grow up, I want to be me. ft Dora Kamau and Akeem Pierre

It's time to get a little bit selfish. The lockdown has left us and our thoughts with an abundance of "alone time" and it's now time for a little self-reflection. Joining us in the virtual studio this week is Dora Kamau and Akeem Pierre, two major headliners in the mental health and self-growth and entrepreneurial space. In this episode, we learn the true meaning of selfishness and learning how to block out the outisde noise to focus on your own path.

Burna said what? ft. Tolu Talabi and David Markwei

Burna said what? ft. Tolu Talabi and David Markwei

By the end of our illustrious careers as podcasters, we would have bullied all our friends into being guests. This week, Tolu and David join us in our virtual studio to discuss our man Burna, who we love to hate to love. We go over some of the controversial things he's done and said, figure out if we may be playing by different rules for different celebrities and examine the credibility of cancel culture as a tool to regulate pop culture on the continent and all over the world.
As always, it's been your girls, Ritual and Akosua, gingering the Jollof because Burna brought us the shitor.

So you exposed your friend on social media?

So you exposed your friend on social media?

It's an age-old story that scrolling through people's shiny curated timelines can make you feel insecure. But on the other hand, going through stories about depressing times in other's lives can make you feel exactly that - depressed. This episode is basically Akosua ranting about LinkedIn.  Jokes, jokes. We actually talk about navigating our feelings, perhaps the lack thereof, and other people's feelings in the world of social media. And why does that matter? Why are so many people are choosing to have deep and private conversations publicly and remain fixated on creating the illusion that they are the bigger person rather than commit to actually working on their relationships behind closed doors? Anyways, we hope that maybe we can all find a place to feel good, where we can treat people with kindness (yes, we stole this part of the description from Harry Styles).

Should there really have been a Black F.R.I.E.N.D? ft.Katy Ho

Should there really have been a Black F.R.I.E.N.D? ft.Katy Ho

F.R.I.E.N.D.S was "too white" and Never have I ever wasn't Indian enough. This week we unpack representation........lol or at least we try to, with help from our special guest Katy Ho, founder of Attire media. We look at what representation in the media has looked like over the years and what exactly it has achieved in both majority and minority spaces. We also delve into what extent every story can be told and whose duty it is to do that in the first place. As always, it's been your girls, coming to you with the tea (socially distant of course).
Also you - yes, you! We can tell you haven't followed us on Instagram. Well, you can make things right and change your life by adding @3rdculture_kids, @mskatyho, and @attiremedia to keep up with what the podcast and your presenters are doing.
