The media has been filled over the last few days with the horrific story of Lucy Letby murdering at least seven neonatal babies under her care at the Countess of Chester hospital. Condemnation of the attacks has been unanimous, and she has been dubbed the worst serial child killer in modern British history. But is she? Why didn't Jesus go round fixing all the social ills of the day? Is politics a distraction from the gospel? Is this a nuanced issue, or black and white? What are we to make of the "polarisation" issue that Sats mentions? In “Honest Conversations” we are speaking exclusively with church leaders about the importance of engaging the issue of “abortion” from the front of church, and in particular why it seems so hard to do so. We’ll also be hearing encouragement and practical advice on various aspects of ministering in this area, in the context of the local church. The “pastor-to-pastor” format means that what you’ll be hearing in these podcasts is not the observations of armchair analysts or keyboard warriors, but reports from servants of the word of God on the frontlines, where biblical principles are being applied in real-life congregations and communities. Whilst some of the church leaders we’ll be speaking with have been ministering in this area for a number of years, many of them are relatively new to engaging the issue and some are only just starting out or are even wondering whether to. All of us still have a long way to go. In this "Frontlines and Headlines" episode, Christian and Dave explore the apparent "cooling" of XR's tactics (as they put down their soup and glue and pick up their microphones) and ask whether it represents a trajectory that pro-life activists should be seeking to emulate. They also ponder whether the Daily Sceptic's recent attempt at neutrality on the issue of "abortion" managed to be escape being a total car crash. Also under the spotlight is the actual news story behind the Daily Sceptic's inner struggle: the World Health Organisation's bloodthirsty edict that all member states globally should perform the killing of babies up till birth for any reason, whenever requested to do so by the mothers of these babies, trampling over the many different moral positions and (often democratically decided) policies of these states. Are XR in a different league from pro-life activists in terms of public support, and does this change what they can "get away with"?
