Mitchell and Sam, colleagues and good friends, both share a passion for Participatory Democracy. As a result, this is the third or fourth interview MItchell has done with Sam over the course of the past decade plus. His book Reclaiming Our Democracy's latest version was just released in January, 2024. Here's a little bio. on Sam: Sam Daley-Harris founded RESULTS, an international citizens’ lobby dedicated to creating the political will to end poverty in 1980, the Microcredit Summit Campaign in 1995, and in 2012 Daley-Harris founded the Center for Citizen Empowerment and Transformation to help organizations more deeply engage their supporters and create champions in Congress and the media for their cause. The Microcredit Summit Campaign surpassed its initial goal of reaching 100 million of the world’s poorest families with microloans in 2007. It was that same year that Daley-Harris began coaching Citizens’ Climate Lobby founder Marshall Saunders prior to the launch of Citizens’ Climate Lobby. Daley-Harris is author of Reclaiming Our Democracy: Healing the Break between People and Government, about which Jimmy Carter said, “[Daley-Harris] provides a road map for global involvement in planning a better future.” The 20th anniversary edition was released in 2013. Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Muhammad Yunus said: “….no other organization has been as critical a partner in seeing to it that microcredit is used as a tool to eradicate poverty and empower women than RESULTS and the Microcredit Summit Campaign.”

And Ashoka founder Bill Drayton wrote, “Sam Daley-Harris is one of the certified great social entrepreneurs of the last decades. After building RESULTS, he is the person more than anyone else who has brought microcredit into focus across the world and precipitated action.” Daley-Harris has degrees in music, played percussion instruments in the Miami Philharmonic, and is a songwriter.

Earth Day is a special time to commemorate our precious Mother Earth. Mitchell and Scott come together in this dialogue to discuss Earth Day in general, its significance, and the line-up of speakers and musicians Mitchell put together for this year's Earth Day.

She is a world-renowned Qigong Grandmaster energy healer, acupuncturist, author, international speaker, Humanitarian, Futurist, and Visionary. She wielded the female influence in the world at a time when it was mostly only talked about. Recipient of the “Visionary of the Year 1997,” “The Humanitarian of the Year 1999” and “The Visionary of the Decade 2000” Awards, Dr. Effie Poy Yew Chow has for over 40 years been working to integrate Qigong and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) with Western Medicine. “Giving individuals the power to determine and manage their own health and destinies is the secret of true healing” is her motto.

She founded the East West Academy of Healing Arts (EWAHA) in 1973 in San Francisco. In 1988 an arm of that organization, The EWAHA Qigong Institute, was established within EWAHA to promote research and clinical work in medical Qigong. In 2003 she was appointed by the Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago to their National Task Force on The 21st Century Initiative on Life and Health. In 2004 she was invited onto the 15 member international Advisory Board of the CAM Health Expo, and in 2005 onto the 20 member Advisory Board of the National Library of Medicine-Asian American Health Website Users Group. May, 2005 Vancouver General Hospital Nurses Alumnae Assoc. awarded Dr. Chow as the “Most Distinguished Nurse Graduate”

In this interview, Mitchell, who has also been teaching T'ai-Chi, Qi-Gong and Taoist Meditation for many years, and Effie have an uplifting conversation about the values and merits of these ancient Chinese practices and how people everywhere, by integrating them into their lives, would gain the mental, emotional and physical health benefits.

Mitchell interviews this lovely couple from Australia as they passed through New York and shared warm and heartfelt stories with him that stir the soul.

Mitchell interviews Irish psychotherapist, Derek O'Neil, who had a series of synchronistic experiences starting in a bookstore in Dublin, leading him to an ashram in India belonging to Satya Sai Baba.  The stories are remarkable, humbling and make utterly clear that there is a level of consciousness that we contain but is far beyond our conscious minds.

Ervin Laszlo is a philosopher and systems scientist. The author, co-author or editor of 106 different books that have appeared in a total of 25 languages, he has written over 400 articles and research papers. The subject of the one-hour PBS special Life of a Modern-Day Genius, Laszlo is the founder and president of the international think tank The Club of Budapest and of the prestigious The Laszlo Institute of New Paradigm Research. 

The recipient of various honors and awards, including Honorary Ph. D.s from the United States, Canada, Finland, and Hungary, Laszlo received the Goi Award, the Japan Peace Prize in 2001, the Assisi Mandir of Peace Prize in 2006, and was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2004 and 2005.

Mitchell met Ervin at a meeting on the environment at the United Nations which led to the conducting of this interview.

In this interview, Mitchell speaks with scientist, nutritionist and teacher Christian Opitz.  Mitchell has interviewed Christian a few times, from India where they first met in 2005 to Miami, FL. as well as in Germany, where they both traveled together offering a blessing practice to their students.

A former journalist specializing in issues of consciousness and activism, Catherine is the author of two books of nonfiction, which are published in numerous languages: In the Footsteps of Gandhi: Conversations with Spiritual/Social Activists (Parallax Press, 1990) and Passionate Presence: Seven Qualities of Awakened Awareness (Penguin Putnam, 2003); and one novel, A Crack in Everything (Diamond Books, 2006). Mitchell interviews Mayan scholar, Swedish-born Carl Calleman on his book Solving the Greatest Mystery of Our Time.

Carl is a prolific writer and scholar, with a background in cancer research, who took a vacation to Mexico and fell in love with the Mayan culture.  This became a pivot point in his life and he is now one of the world's leading scholars in the Mayan Calendar and Civilization.

This is the first of a few interviews Mitchell did with Bhagavan Das in the NYC studio.  Bhagavan Das' story is remarkable and shared with you here.

In 1963 at the age of 18, Bhagavan Das left California and journeyed solo through Europe, Northern Africa and the Middle East, eventually arriving in India. He was the first American to live in the jungle of the Himalayas as a hermit-sadhu. He was given the holy name of Ram by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. He then came to meet Swami Chaitanya Prakashananda Tirth who gave him tapas to pray for God's Grace. In 1965, after a year of fasting, prayer and intense purification, 

Bhagavan Das met his Sat Guru, the Mahasiddha Neem Karoli Baba (Maharaji) who he lived with side by side for many years. Maharaji sent him to Anandamayi Ma to receive initiation from the Divine Mother. Later, during his time with the Tibetan yogis, he was the first westerner to meet and live with Lama Kalu Rinpoche, the guru of the 16th Karmapa. He gave Bhagavan Das the Mahamudra transmission. Bhagavan Das received the Clear Light of Primordial Awareness from His Holiness Dudjom Rinpoche and then the Vajra Yogini  transmission directly from the 16th Karmapa in Sikkim. He lived with Yogi Chen who explained all the details to him in English in his hermitage in Kalimpong. 

When on pilgrimage to the holy Boudhanath Stupa in Kathmandu, Bhagavan Das met Richard Alpert who became Ram Dass after Bhagavan Das brought him to Maharaji. Then, Bhagavan Das was sent to Amma in the 1980s, who saved him again from the ravages of the world. The Grace of his Sat Guru Maharaji led Bhagavan Das HOME to the Divine Mother in the form of Amulya Maa, his precious Beloved Wife, who is always guiding him on the true path of Bodhichitta with her crystal clarity, ancient wisdom and pure Love.

Mitchell interviews Dutch-born Alexander Wijnen in NYC about a most interesting healing product, programmed, healing salts.

In the late 1970’s, Susan was an influential leader in the male dominated world of high finance when she gathered twelve female leaders in a variety of fields to co-create “The Chicago Network,” the inspiration for the very first “KINS” group, which still thrives today.Leading with heart-based principles, Susan has served as the founding organizer for one major KINS network after another to total more than forty networks in the United States, Nigeria, and Ecuador over a span of 45 years.  Many KINS Networks were supported by her own venture, Capital Missions Company (CMC – 1990 TO 2002), which she then gifted to the non-profit Green America to gift to the world.

Today, Susan continues to provide her visionary inspiration and guidance for groups of high integrity leaders to collaborate on breakthrough technologies, whole systems transformation, and sustainable economic impact using her proven “Key Influencer Network Strategy (KINS)” methodology. The individuals in KINS networks help each other manifest their life destiny paths for the good of all Earth.

Walter Moora is a bio-dynamic farmer, a kind of holistic form of farming according to the teachings of Rudolf Steiner and his wife, Susan Davis, a world-renowned transformer of Global Finance and founder of the KINS Network.

Mitchell speaks with evolution biologist, futurist, speaker and sustainability consultant and author Elisabet Sahtouris.  She is a US and Greek citizen who has lived in the US, Canada, Greece, Peru and Spain while lecturing, doing workshops and media appearances on all continents. She has a PhD from Dalhousie University in Canada. She consults with corporations and government organizations in Australia, Brazil, Europe, Asia, Africa and the United States.

In this interview, Mitchell speaks with Achi Tsepal, the founder of the Children of Tibet Trust Foundation who has a highly unique background. 

Achi was born in Kham, Tibet and received his name from the Drikung Thil Monastery in Central Tibet. Lord Jigten Sumgon founded the Drikung Thil Monastery, which is being rebuilt since its destruction during the Cultural Revolution in China. In 1959 Achi’s parents escaped into India after a three and half month's difficult journey over the Himalayas. There were four Monastic groups (labrangs) and about 50 families from the Drikung Valley who followed HH the 14th Dalai Lama into India, but only Achi’s family made it.

In 1961, he was fortunate to be one of the four boys selected among hundreds of Tibetan Refugee kids in Mussoorie, North India to attend Wynberg Allen High school to receive a great education.

1970 While attending Christ College, Bangalore, India Achi worked with American Missionaries to start two hostels in Bangalore for children from the Tibetan Refugee communities in South India. Hundreds of Tibetan children graduated from several private schools in Bangalore to become leaders in the Tibetan communities today.

1974 after graduating with BA from Bangalore University, Achi was chosen by HH the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa, the head of the Karma Kagyu Order of Tibetan Buddhism, to accompany him during HH’s first and second World Dharma Peace Tour as Private Secretary and English Interpreter…. and served in this capacity for seven years at Rumtek Monastery, Sikkim, India.

1981 Achi and his family moved to Washington DC to start a new life and during his spare time he worked hard co-founded the Tibetan Meditation Center (1982) and the Drikung Dharma Surya Buddhist Center (2011) belonging to the Drikung Kagyu Order of Tibetan Buddhism. Over the years, these two Drikung Kagyu Centers have hosted many great Teachers including HH the Dalai Lama, HH Gyalwa Drikungpa Chestang and the great Yogi Master HE Kyabje Garchen. He believes that the spread of Buddha Dharma around the world will help the world community to attain peace.

In 2008, Achi was the 2008 Machik Award for Engagement Winner for his work through the Children of Tibet Trust Foundation. This organization is currently sponsoring students in the secondary and tertiary education and hopes that the education of these children in the Tibetan Plateau and in the Himalayan regions will enable them to preserve their Tibetan heritage and well being.

As a Tibetan, Achi has a deep appreciation of his unique and rich cultural heritage and at the same time realizes the daunting challenges the Tibetans face in their struggle to survive as a race with its unique cultural heritage under the Chinese Han rulers in Tibet and with the assimilation problem of the Tibetan identity in Tibet and the free world.

The core mission of CTTF is to help the Tibetan children on the Tibetan plateau and the Himalayan regions to obtain the best secular education so that they can promote, preserve and persist in their work to keep pace with rapid modernization.

This rare and unique interview with a man who has lived through the tumultuous history of the Chinese invasion of Tibet and the Tibetan flight across the Himalayas to India, then to find himself working with the highest teachers in Tibetan Buddhism while in India and America, makes for an extraordinary life and a historically with interview for A Better World Podcasts.

The list goes on---from helping to build MoveOn.org to helping Nelson Mandela win the Presidency in South Africa.  David's life reads like an extraordinary adventure novel of a hero doing good and taking down the bad guys, with some humor and cheer, one by one.

In this interview, David takes us for a tour to meet the stars of the times, Abby Hoffman and others, and it's interesting as much as it provides some historical documentation of a time from which today, we can take a few pages, of not chapters from to inform and guide  needed actions today.

It is a tragic story yet one full of inspiration & hope.  Former journalist, Harvard Law School-trained, human rights attorney Steven Donziger visited the Amazon Rainforest in Ecuador with a group of colleagues and were alarmed to see the human and environmental damage done by one of the world's largest corporations, Chevron while drilling oil wells and irresponsibly letting the contaminants enter the land and water supply of the entire area, an area where indigenous people have been living for generations.

Appalled by what he saw, he and colleagues took up the indigenous people's cause and initiated litigation against Chevron for the damage and were awarded 9.5 billion dollars, but which the people never collected because Chevron has been fighting, for 27 years, to protect themselves, and in so doing, have mounted a case against Steven Donziger himself.

The case against Chevron has been won and a settlement awarded.  But they are fighting to keep from having to pay and the humiliation they would suffer by losing to Native Peoples of the Amazon who they thought they could simply ignore and get away with exploiting this precious and sacred land.

This interview is with Steven, days before he is to go before a judge in this specious and completely frivolous case against him, further evidence of how our justice system is two-tiered and too frequently serves the corporate elite and not the average American.
