Ramy S2 E9 & 10 Recap & After Show: Let's Sheikh Things Up
Episode 9 is essentially a deep dive into Uncle Naseem's secret life. We see him in a completely different light --isolated, lonely, and torn with his identity. We find out that he has been intimate with multiple men-- both in his past and in his present, and the internal struggle and frustration this causes him. Episode 10, the final episode of the season, revolves around Ramy and his imminent marriage. Things get dicey when his cousin he had a complicated relationship with comes to visit from Egypt. Ramy's feelings for her resurface and he cheats on his soon to be wife the night before their wedding. When he confesses this to his wife on their wedding night after she loses her virginity to him, things take an interesting turn the next morning. Her father, the sheikh, visits. The trust and relationship have been entirely severed. Ramy has hit rock bottom. Will he ever find his way? Hopefully, we will get another season so our questions will be answered. On this episode RECAP:  HULU'S RAMY - SEASON 2 - EPISODE 5 - ARIANA GRANDE, Dena takes center place as she has become the recipient of a full ride scholarship to law school, a fact she publicizes first on Facebook to the dismay of her parents.  Farouk and especially Maysa are worried that Dena will receive the Evil Eye and be jinxed.  Maysa tells Dena of Uncle Naseem's bout with the evil eye which caused him great misfortune.  Dena, to modern to believe in such nonsense takes her parents warning with a grain of salt and is annoyed by their lack of enthusiasm for her. Dena is concerned and goes to visit Uncle Naseem to determine how to rid herself of what she is sure now is the evil eye curse.  Uncle Naseem cryptically tells her to visit a mystic who can help her.  Once there the mystic is immediately off put by the energy of Dena's misfortune as determined by the configuration of her turkish coffee fortune.  The mystic grabs a paper shaped like a person and pricks it several times with a needle stating the names of the people who 'liked' her facebook post.  The mystic then burns the paper and circles Dena's head with sage reciting prayers and seance alike.  Once in the car again, the doctor from Dena's check up calls to tell her the lump is a benign normal lump, Fibroadenoma. The driver, a Mexican naturalized citizen, makes a series of negative stereotype comments to Dena in regards to being Muslim and having her head covered.  After being attacked verbally by the driver for her insistence on wearing the scarf and maintaining her cultural identity, Dena has a justified meltdown and goes off on the driver expressing the headscarf is to cover her balding condition and dispels many of the negative things the driver says.  Dena tells the driver to pull over, let her out, and take her car to the shop without doing anything to it. On this episode RECAP:  HULU'S RAMY - SEASON 2 - EPISODE 6 - THEY, we explore more of Maysa, the mother, as she is on her quest to become a citizen.  Maysa takes her studies and duties very seriously.  She reaches out to a lawyer who says her case seems like it will be "softball" a term she learns means very easy. Her dreams come to a seeming halt in her mind when she is suspended by Lyft for an incident.  She calls Lyft frantically to find out what the incident is.  Not only does she want to work she also irrationally worry about her chances to become a citizen.  She expresses her frustration to Dena who is attempting to study for her new law school.  Dena tries to calm her mother down by explaining the irrationality, Maysa is not having it.  Dena tells Maysa to go over her day. He is aware of Maysa and the incident the day before and very upset by it.  Maysa admits to stalking the couple to which Sofia's boyfriend calls the cop. Dena comes to Maysa's rescue and explains the situation to the cops.  The couple is not pressing charges.  Dena and Maysa have a harsh heart to heart in which Dena tells Maysa she is rude not honest.  Dena also expresses how her mother has been very rude to her in the past.  Maysa expresses her love and pride for Dena and not wanting her to make the same mistakes Maysa has made.  Dena seems to have gotten her point across until Maysa ends by saying lets go find the "asian girl" to fix this. Ramy's friends give him advice on how to handle the ride alone with the Sheikh's daughter.  The debate Quran reciter.  In the car Ramy offers to play Quran, which Zainab turns down and says she would rather go in silence. The Emirate's residence is the Bin Khaled Estate, an over the top domain and mansion with security.  Ramy has a hard time understanding the Arabic, as his Arabic is conversational mostly and a different dialect.  At the door of the actual residence, Zainab asks Ramy for a motivational speech.  Ramy simply says "Just do it".  Zainab ridicules the lack of enthusiasm and they go inside with Boomer who Ramy had to bring along.  Inside they are greeted by a parrot and a huge manor.  The Prince's assistant Kalim prays for him, he is the "Lebron James" of praying. The Prince explains the reason Mia Khalifa was in attendance.  The Prince admits to his own porn addiction and refers to the solution being a little known part of the Quran which refers to drinking the milk of the breast of a woman make her your mother.  Bin Khaled takes this to mean he would not be aroused by his mother and therefore pays Mia Khalifa to drink her breasts milk.  He insists Ramy take a sip to cleanse his own porn addiction.  Ramy in the waiting room has a conversation with Mia. When learning Ramy's name which means "archer" in Arabic, the Prince takes Ramy and Zainab to an archery range in his field.  There he proposes if Ramy hits the target and is a natural archer the Prince will simply give them the money, however if he misses the Prince wants Boomer in return.  Ramy refuses.  The Prince then offers the funds in direct exchange for Boomer, which Ramy refuses as well.  When told the request is only for $2 Million dollars he easily does so repeating Ramy is his "brother".  Zainab blames Ramy for the predicament to begin with but is impressed Ramy was able to get it done. Back in the presence of Sheikh Malik, who believe the two would fail Ramy learns of Zainab's intentions to like Ramy and allow him to court her.  Sheikh Malik is not as happy about this however knows his daughter has a strong will and will do as she pleases.  A possible romance is on the horizon. Ramy S2 E1 & 2 Recap & After Show: Bayeahhh!
Ramy season 2 is back! RECAP: HULU'S RAMY - SEASON 2 - EPISODE 1 - BAY'AH - in this episode Ramy is dealing with the depression of returning home from Egypt. Some time has passed and we see Ramy settling back into the midst of things reluctantly. Ramy spends his days in his room, depressed, thinking of his cousin he left behind, watching porn, and masturbating, as his friends and family are concerned, as we only see Mo, Ahmed, and Stevie in the opening, concerned for Ramy. Ramy returns to work with fan favorite Uncle Naseem who admits he was going to fire Ramy upon his return, however customers asked for him. Uncle Naseem is surprised customers missed Ramy and attributes this to they fact that Ramy 'feels like them' and has 'Jewish energy.' Humorously he states 'your weakness makes them feel safe' in his emasculating praise of Ramy. Uncle Naseem has a present for Ramy, he gives him the gun off his underwear strap, for protection. Ramy proceeds to take the gun, then enters a bathroom stall to masturbate again, giving the sense he is becoming addicted to porn. At night, Ramy and his family are invited to Ramy's father's bosses house for a dinner. Farouk and Maysa are trying their best to act normal and impress Farouk's boss. Dena announces her intention to go to law school, but not Yale the alma mater of the bosses son, to the noticeable disappointment of her father. Farouk takes a shot of whiskey to impress his boss. Ramy asks to go to the bathroom, to possibly masturbate again. In the bathroom, Ramy is inundated by self inspired rorschach tests in which he sees vagina in almost every pattern. The families senile grandfather enters the bathroom with Ramy on the toilet. He doesnt seem to notice Ramy as he washes his hands and uses the towels next to Ramy. Ramy becomes increasingly alarmed when the grandfather picks up Ramy's gun, points it at him, and then himself. The boss calls for his father, who puts the gun away in his pocket without saying a word and walks out. The next scene finds Ramy at his mosque speaking to the Imam, who's concern is Ramy is leaving the Mosque. He confesses of his watching porn, to the chagrin of the Imam who stops him and suggests he takes three specific precautions; 1. Read the last 3 Surahs of the Quran every night, 2. Maintain Wudu through out the day, and 3. Fast. Ramy is not convinced as he exits but runs into the white guy at Mosque from Season 1. He tells Ramy he is switching Mosques to a Sufi location nearby. Ramy, familiar with Sufism in his travel to Egypt, has his interest piqued. Ramy meets the charismatic and enigmatic Sheikh Malik played by Mahershala Ali. We meet the Sheikh as he is teaching a student a harsh lesson in regards to gossip and talking poorly about fellow students. Ramy is enamored. Ramy has a meeting with the Sheikh which turns into a confession by Ramy in regards to sexual relationship with his cousin, porn watching, and generally running away. The Sheikh offers guidance, expressing Ramy must take an oath to him, known as the 'bay'ah'. HULU'S RAMY - SEASON 2 - EPISODE 2 - CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW? - Ramy is taking his new spirituality and dedication to sufi Islam very seriously.  His eagerness annoys his family over dinner as he asks them to pray and if the chicken is halal.  His family warns him of the dangers of extremism. Ramy goes inside and speaks to Sheikh Malik about giving Dennis a job.  Sheikh Malik's daughter Zainab is present as well, reluctant to give Dennis a job.  She says there are Muslims who are suffering, Ramy however vouches for Dennis lying in regards to the closeness of their relationship.  Dennis turns out to be a great helper and builder, even building a ramp to the center. After taking the pledge and beginning the prayer, Dennis is triggered and severely beats a protestor. Ramy runs out and stops him but it may be too late.
