S 1 Ep 15, MMA Fighter Will Starks on MMA, UFC, and pursuing one's dreams

S 1 Ep 15, MMA Fighter Will Starks on MMA, UFC, and pursuing one's dreams

While doing this episode, this song called, I couldn't help but think about Sylvestor Stallone's Rocky series, in part because this guy, bruised and battered from his last fight but all the more gracious in defeat, still stood tall in his pursuit of a larger than life ambition --- a desire to be a UFC champion. I could see it in his eyes, the fire! And this is why I pushed him to come on the podcast for months on end... And he's finally here!

At 28 years of age, Will 'Soldier of Christ' Starks, is a professional MMA fighter, two time UMMAF (USA Mixed Martial Arts Federation) National, and 2 time UMMAF World Champion with the hopes of making it to the UFC. Having fought the weekend prior and with bloodshot eyes, Will agreed to the podcast while pursuing a degree in Neuroscience & Biochemistry, and being a boyfriend, a dog owner, and much much more.

Recently recruited by one of the largest sports agencies in the world (Paradigm Sports), Will discusses the challenges of taking the road less traveled, dealing with doubts and doubt-ers, his background, desire to fight, risks of contact sports & how to minimize them, recommendations for upcoming fighters and much much more.

Will is a fighter in the ring and in life, and I just know that he will achieve big things in whatever path he takes. In my eyes, he is already successful for daring to dream, but moreover, for trying to make that dream a reality. Thank you for being you, Will!

Ep 14. Ali Husaini 1st Gen American on Minority in American Politics Today & More

Ep 14. Ali Husaini 1st Gen American on Minority in American Politics Today & More

'If you're in this, you need to be in this for the right reasons. Sincerity and persistence are necessary (for Public Service)' Ali Husaini

Hailing from an immigrant family from India, Ali Husaini is a 1st generation brown Muslim American with one goal in mind: Leveling the playing field in American politics to one day have a political body that truly represents its diverse constituency.

Ali discovered his passion in the library of congress where he took charge of the herculean task of reopening mountains of unsolved cases involving crimes against minorities in America. And just like that, he had found his passion in life. He has since gone on to receive multiple licenses from the US House of Representatives and learn under the guidance of veteran politicians including New Jersey General Assembly member Daniel Benson, Congresswoman Bonnie Coleman, and even the battle-hardened Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, all while being a full-time student at Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, PA. The list of achievements goes on and on as this kid from New Jersey strives to truly build a country 'For the People, By the People.'

In the third episode of AJK HFB, Ali discusses getting an Internship in public service 101, the challenges of being a minority, recommendations for others wishing to follow in his footsteps, and American politics today.

To Ali: Thank you for agreeing to come on the podcast. I cannot tell you how much I appreciated your time. Perhaps you are the greatest Ali!

Ep 13. Finance, Morningstar, Immigrant, and going into the unknown w/ Muhammad Ali, Product Specialist at Morningstar

Ep 13. Finance, Morningstar, Immigrant, and going into the unknown w/ Muhammad Ali, Product Specialist at Morningstar

Muhammad Ali is a Product Specialist at Morningstar, Inc, a multi-billion dollar behemoth in the finance world. He has a bachelor's in economics/math from Bard Unversity, NYC; was the president of the investment group at Bard as well; studied engineering and sustainable energy at Oxford University, UK; is python (programming language) and Bloomberg Market Concepts (BMC) certified; the list goes on and on.... and yet, he has time and again found ways to give back to the community as well. In the face of overwhelming odds, Ali left his home country and family behind to pursue what we all want: the American Dream, the promise for a better life. But Ali is just one of many international students that struggle day and night in service of the dream. He, much like my earlier guest Farhan Sadiq (Season 1), represents an overlooked and underappreciated demographic of immigrants that form a pivotal foundation of what makes America Great: immigrant talent.

In the second episode of AJK HFB Season 2, Ali discusses Morningstar, getting a job 101, personal story, his take on success in life and recommendations, and the capital markets in that order. Much like most ambitious people, positivity, relentlessness, and empathy are a running theme. I hope you're inspired, and if so, please feel free to reach out to me and tell me what you liked most. Enjoy :)

To Ali: Thank you for agreeing to come on the podcast. I cannot tell you how much I appreciated your time.

EP 12. IFBB Pro Bodybuilder Jared Feather on Making a Living in the Fitness Industry & Overcoming Challenges

EP 12. IFBB Pro Bodybuilder Jared Feather on Making a Living in the Fitness Industry & Overcoming Challenges

Jared Feather is an IFBB Pro Bodybuilder who has won many bodybuilding competitions across some of the highest stages in the sport in the IFBB, IFF, and IPE. But he is not just any bodybuilder: Jared boasts a Masters (yes, Masters) of Science (M.S) in Exercise Physiology with a special focus on nutrition and training. He has OVER 10 YEARS of experience in the bodybuilding industry and has helped countless men and women alike achieve their dreams of being on the stage and/or just lead healthier lives. Now, while Jared has the knowledge and credibility to back that up, what truly sets him apart is his personal story and how he overcame tremendous challenges to forge a happy and healthy life for himself by doing what he loves most --> Bodybuilding.

In the first episode of AJK HFB Season 2 (yeahhh budayyyy), Jared Feather talks about two things: 1) overcoming challenges, importance of loving what you do, and his own story to serve as an inspiration and 2) making a living as a fitness professional. Positivity, Gratitude, genuineness, and a strong work ethic --- and whole lotta swearing (lol) --- are a running theme in Jared's story and hence, this episode. In some ways, this episode is also a tribute to his mom, who was always there for him through and through.

I hope you're inspired, and if so, please feel free to reach out to me and tell me what you liked most. Links to reaching out to Jared, his company (RP), and/or me are at the bottom. Enjoy :)

To Jared: Thank you for agreeing to come on the podcast. I know you have big goals and dreams, and I cannot tell you how much I appreciated your time, not least because I have learned a lot from you.

'You can f*** up as many times as you want, but don't give up... don't be scared' --- Jared Feather

AJK HFB EP. 11: Mansoor Ijaz, founder of Crescent Investment Mgmt. shares his extraordinary life story.

AJK HFB EP. 11: Mansoor Ijaz, founder of Crescent Investment Mgmt. shares his extraordinary life story.

Mr. Ijaz is an American investor, entrepreneur, citizen diplomat, physicist, engineer, father, husband, and founder of Crescent Investment Management, a hedge fund management company that has run his proprietary trading system, CARAT, for 33 years now. He is by far one of the most influential Americans of Pakistani origin in the country. Born and raised as a kid of color in 1960s rural America, Mr. Ijaz was educated as a physicist and neuro-mechanical engineer at the University of Virginia, MIT, and Harvard Medical School. In the late 1980s, without any formal knowledge or training in business, he entered the world of high finance quite by accident. He would later adapt his human biomechanics models developed at MIT to the extreme volatility in financial markets following the 1987 stock market crash. Crescent Investment Management was born soon after in 1990. He made a substantial fortune managing other people’s money in the 1990s, and soon turned his energies to politics in troubled regions of the world – he says he felt the guilt of his wealth in wanting to right wrongs in faraway lands where disaffected people, particularly in the Islamic world, had no voice. He worked closely with the Clinton administration in opening counterterrorism channels to Sudan’s Islamist government and co-authored the blueprint that led to a historical ceasefire in the troubled region of Kashmir. Often blamed for the fall of several powerful governments in Pakistan, he has now quit global politics and spends his time managing mostly his own wealth while raising his family in the United States... oh, and lest we forget, he was also an All-American Powerlifter while at UVA.

In this episode, Mr. Ijaz takes us on a candid journey through his life from growing up as a first-generation American in Virginia in the 1960s and 70s to reaching the pinnacle of the financial and political world. He discusses the events that led him to Wall Street and opened opportunities for him to use his MIT algorithms. He shares with us the work he did with the Clinton administration, his thoughts on cryptocurrency, his time as a powerlifter, and his principles for the success he has enjoyed in life, as well as much much more.

It was a pleasure, and an absolute privilege, to talk to him.

AJK HFB EP 10: Diving deeper into cryptocurrency with industry veteran Nolan Foster

AJK HFB EP 10: Diving deeper into cryptocurrency with industry veteran Nolan Foster

After talking about the inspiration behind his company Gumbo LLC, sharing his life experiences, and giving us a brief lesson on cryptocurrency 101, cryptocurrency hedge fund manager Nolan Foster returns to AJK HFB to dive deeper into the emerging asset class. Backed by popular demand among the listeners and to commemorate Bitcoin's 12th birthday, Nolan takes us through crypto's 12-year history and what we can expect going forward. In this episode, Nolan talks about the early days of crypto; the mysterious Satoshi Nakamoto; COVID's impact and bitcoin's record highs; mass adoption and some of the major criticisms/roadblocks; the book Age Of Cryptocurrency by Michael Casey and Paul Vigna; the false promise of Green/Social justice funds; and just for fun, his days as a wrestler.

Nolan is a cryptocurrency hedge fund manager and entrepreneur. After attending Franklin & Marshall College, Lancaster, PA, he founded his own company Gumbo LLC by securing funds from angel investors --- an achievement in itself. In Gumbo, Nolan operates a cryptocurrency hedge fund. Only a few years after starting out, Nolan and his team are currently working on a fund capped at over $10M. They pride themselves on the value proposition based on mutually beneficial fee structures, novel strategies centered around 'acquiring more of the asset' rather than obsessing over the link between the US dollar and cryptocurrency, and other structural/positional economic moats.

AJK HFB EP 4: Isfandiyar (Asfi) Shaheen, a capital markets professional and entrepreneur, shares his many insights from failed ventures to supervising $750M M&A deals and founding NetEquity.

Isfandiyar (Asfi) Shaheen is a capital markets professional (investor) and entrepreneur, and is currently the founder and CEO of NetEquity, a company dedicated to making internet for all a reality. This is of special concern considering that approximately 4 billion people still do not have access to the internet; Asfi believes that this access can lay the framework needed for equal opportunities and help provide the basis for self-efficiency through access to all the knowledge the world-wide-web has to offer. He believes he is track to make his ambitious goal a reality by 2028.

This episode takes a peak into Asfi's life and the motivations behind all that he has achieved. He gives insight into the many failures and rejections he experienced that paved his path to success. Some of his most notable achievements include brokering a $750M buyout  of British Petroleum Pakistan by United Energy Group, a $970M (51%) acquisition of Engro Foods by FrieslandCampina, advising Facebook on connectivity and infrastructure, and of course, the relentless work he has put into NetEquity.  You can learn more about NetEquity.net and/or watching his ted talk on YouTube.

AJK HFB EP 3: Farhan Sadiq, econometrics major from Macalester College, MN discusses graduation, finding a job during COVID-19, Investing, and more.

In this episode, fellow go-getter and investor, Farhan Sadiq shares his insights about investing and finding employment during COVID-19. Why him? Because I feel that, amid all the negativity and stress due to the pandemic, he has managed to achieve all his goals against seemingly insurmountable odds. How? Through hard work, consistency, intelligence, calm, and a whole lot of persistence. My favorite part is where, a bit disillusioned by lack of success, he almost comes to his breaking point but decides to push on. But I do not respect him because he achieved success, but because he failed well: he got up but never gave up. You can do it too!!!

Farhan is an int'l student from Lahore, Pakistan. Having graduated from Aitchison College (most prestigious high school in Asia), he came to the US to study at Macalester College, MN. An economics major, he did a number of internships in the financial industry including investment banking as a summer analyst at TD securities' Leveraged Finance Group in NYC and is now working as an analyst at CMG (Capital Markets Gateway) in Chicago.

AJK H&F EP.2 (w/ Johndee (the beast) Dibaptiste)

How do they make money? Why do some people seem to succeed at everything they do, but others fail? Is this success available to us, and if so, how can we learn to earn? So many graduate from colleges, and yet, only a few reach the pinnacle of success. This episode tackles how our underlying belief systems create self-fulfilling prophecies, and why changing our relationship with money is the key to... EARNING money. The second half also tackles investing for college students with Johndee (The Beast) Dibaptiste, as we debunk the myth that broke college students have no business investing. Johndee Dibaptiste (JD) is an economics major at Franklin and Marshall College (F&M) in Lancaster, PA. He is also the president of the investment group at F&M and a self-taught fellow investor who did not know anything about investing freshmen year of college. HE says, 'There is essentially nothing you can't achieve with time, discipline, and hard work.'

AJK H&F EP.1 (season 1)

AJK H&F EP.1 (season 1)

Ever wondered why you can't seem to do the things you want to do; like you were meant for more but something is holding you back. That something is your beliefs, which are more often than not formed by the people around you. For this reason it is paramount to surround yourself with the right people. This episode tackles the affect of our environment on us and what we can do about it, with Hunter Conrad as the guest. Hunter is a sophomore at Franklin and Marshall College. He is a creative writing major, and the president of the debate club. But this is not why I invited him: I invited him because of the relentless positive attitude toward life, which I believe, will enable him to do great things in life.

Topic: Impact of our environment on us with Hunter (3hunna) Conrad
