No Budget. No Problem with Shaefri #54
Hi Ohana,
today I have Irish/Egyptian singer/songwriter Shaefri with me today. Shaefri told me how a low to no budget is sometimes a blessing that helped her get creative and get even better results. She loves to write about topics that are thought-provoking. Shaefri proves this in her single "girl" which is about the "me too" movement and now her new single "Joanne" where she touches on a tragic story of a streetworker. Her advice of what to look out for when getting a signed deal, is gold worth.

Hi Ohana,
OGK touched upon a subject I think we all need to hear. He says "EMBRACE THE SUCK!" We all have to start somewhere and at first, you will suck. The good news is, if you keep going you'll eventually suck less, and less and less. But no matter what you do you HAVE TO GO through this process no matter how talented you are. We all go through it, you're not the only one. Trust me

Why you NEED sacrifice to become the best musician with OGK #46
Hi Ohana,
today I have DJ and producer OGK with me today and oh my word did he drop some value bombs! Get your pen and paper ready because you'll need them!
OGK and I had a deep conversation about consistency and how time magnifies your efforts. Good strategy & focus is essential but only time will tell how all your little habits have really been collecting together to achieve your music goal. We both shared our best exercises and experiences on how we delegate and manage time. Here's a quote that changed my life by Kierra Asnanskas:
"When you tell time where to go rather than wondering where it went, you actually create freedom within your life."
OGK also answered some burning questions like:
• How can I teach myself how to DJ?
• What skills do you need to be a DJ?
We also had a chat about how important it is to embrace the suck and to fail to get where you want to go as a musician, singer/songwriter, producer, DJ, or anyone really that wants to achieve big things within the music business.
Have fun!

Find out how music effects wine with Frequency Winery #44
Hi Ohana,
today I have a very interesting episode for you. Jodie B (sound engineer and producer of Frequency) is back talking about what makes the Frequency Winery so special. Yes, today is mostly about wine. But wait a minute... Isn't this a music podcast? Yes! Today we'll focus on how Frequency Winery uses music to settle their wine. I found them through a Netflix show called "Restaurants on the edge" and was emidietly hooked by how they used music. Now if that isn't some serious out-of-the-box thinking then I don't know what!
The more Jodie B and I got talking about how sound affects wine, we couldn't help but think about how it affects us human beings.
Jodie explained how powerful words and therefore lyrics are and how certain sound frequencies impact us. Very cool stuff. Definitely not your typical singer/songwriter, producer conversation.
I hope by listening to this episode you'll understand the power, value, and importance you hold as a musician.

The downside of being signed with Jodie B #42
Hi Ohana,
today I have an amazing guest with me today. She's from Canada and can play almost every instrument. She's a singer/songwriter, producer, and live loop performer. Please welcome Jodie B!
Jodie B reveals how her dad played a big part in her getting started in music at a very young age. Her older sister and her dad would go busking with her when Jodie was only 3 years old! Over time she became the badass independent musician she is now. She can do everything on her own. Jodie talks about finding the balance between constantly learning and improving as a musician and also knowing when to stop to finish an album.
Of course, we also got talking about the changes within the music industry and why it's so important to come together as musicians. It's never been a better time to be a musician. It's all possible. She also explained why being signed can also be more harmful than useful and why being independent can help you have more freedom.

Hi Ohana,
today I have singer/songwriter, producer, body percussionist, wife, and mother DEVADO with me. Like me, she's half German/American and has been doing music since she's been a kid. She's also been on the Voice of Germany in 2015 and has given advice on what those shows are all about and what to look out for when you audition for any TV show. Now Devado has been quite successful getting into production to be able to produce her own songs. But we're not talking about normal production. Devaco has a very unique way of doing that. Hi Ohana,
today I have singer/songwriter and producer Elise Cabret with me today. She's officially my first guest from Australia. Elise shared the very personal story of her struggles with anxiety and depression and how music had a huge role in her healing process. This is why she is so passionate about her new project DAWter where she gets to help others that are struggling to express their feelings and cope with them. We also had a chat about how everything is a process, you don't suddenly wake up a rockstar, you become one! You need to grow into it. Elise said that songwriting is more a mental mindset rather than a skill problem. Before we even start the song we tell ourselves that it's not good enough. She talked about a little trick that she uses, called "the artist and the editor" to overcome self-doubt and writer's block. How to write a BANGER melody with Ritho Esp #29
Hi Ohana,
today I have singer/songwriter Ritho with me. He shared his secrets of writing his melodies. How he used to be really bad at it and then got to master one of the most important skills of songwriting. Ritho said that songwriting is like exercising a muscle. The more you use it, the better you will get! On the production side, he gave away some great advice. Production isn't there to magically make a song sound good but to enhance it and serve the song to the best it can be, especially if it means hardly adding anything production-wise. His rule of thumb is that production "betters" the song around 20%. Of course, he had a chat about his amazing song "Say You're Mine". He took me behind the scenes and talked me through his songwriting and production process.
Have fun!

She says "Practicing with an audience is worth 10 practicing on your own". We had a chat about how important it is to be yourself and not dilute yourself for other people's enjoyment. How to write authentic lyrics with Garreth Spinn Eps #23
Hi Ohana,
today I have the singer/songwriter & producer Garreth Spinn (g.spinn) with me today.
He told me his story of his best trade ever which involves Harry Potter books and his sister. Why he started producing after he's been writing songs for a while and how important networking is.
We had a chat about actually wanting to be the worst musician in the room and what makes a good song. Garreth shared with me the number one thing he starts with now when he produces or mixes a song now which might go against most production "tricks", but most importantly we talked about writing about lyrics you're nervous to share and why that's important. In the end, we also talked about how ambient music is used in commercial music without us even noticing and how that can help you in your next songs to level up your songwriting game.
Of course, we talked about the production side of Stop | Stand with Jeremiah Higgens which Garreth produced, and his new single "The Only Thing". If you missed the episode with Jeremiah Higgens you can find it here to catch up here.
