It'll Be Alright In The Nineties - S3 E7 - 'The paint isn't dry yet Bob!' (Future technology, as predicted in the 90s)

We're looking backwards to look forwards this time on IBAITN, as we take a look at some classic 90s clips from TV programmes such as Tomorrow's World and Blue Peter as they attempt to predict the future of technology.

Jump on to the information superhighway and watch along with us as we look at shoulder mounted laptops revolutionizing the world of car manufacture, whether or not pandas are hungry or mad, and several different presenters attempting to contact Bill Clinton with varying levels of success.

Also this time: A.I. Stu! Michael Jackson's lawyers get in touch! The Spice Bus! The most 90s sound! And much, much more...

It'll Be Alright In The Nineties - S3 E4 - The New Dignitas (in conversation with Teresa Stenson from My Teenage Diaries)

We've got another fantastic guest for you on IBAITN this week, as writer Teresa Stenson joins us to take a dive into her teenage diaries! Teresa is currently serializing her journals into the fantastic My Teenage Diaries online newsletter, and we were delighted to welcome her onto the show to read a few entries especially for us, as well as answering our vital questions on the decade. Come with us as we discover which Take That member Teresa was forced to 'get real' about not marrying, as well as some on the ground reporting from Doncaster on some of the defining moments of the decade. And there's a bit on Prince Charles (as was) doing the 'Full Monty' dance which still makes us shudder a bit, if we're honest.

Also this time: Quentin Willson! The big blank from Chippenham Hospital Radio! Another update from the masonic lodge! And much, much more!

My Teenage Diaries can be found at this link, and Teresa's beautiful handmade zines can be found here - we strongly recommend you check these out for more excellent 90s content!

It can't all be fun and games when it comes to nostalgia podcasting, you know. On some occasions, your fearless hosts must take it upon themselves to investigate the darker side of their chosen subject matter. But never fear, because in keeping with the spirit of the podcast, this time on IBAITN we apply a suitably light touch to some of the more notable criminal acts of the 90s.

Tune in to find out which Wiltshire football club were decades ahead of Everton when it comes to financial irregularities, which YouTube video Alex watches on a regular basis alongside Bobby Davro's stocks accident, and which famous motorway pursuit started the lads on their journey to holding a mid-table spot in the East Central Wiltshire podcast charts!

It'll Be Alright In The Nineties - S2 E16 - 'My mother found it distasteful' (20th February 1999 Top 40 with Channel NEM)

It's time to take another look at a random chart from the 90s on IBAITN, and on this occasion the fates have deposited us at the 20th February 1999. Who better to help us review this fine chart from the end of the decade than one of our regular correspondents and fellow 90s nostalgia nerd, Neil from Channel NEM! Join us as we explore our personal stories around the songs by R&B legends, cartoons, Canadian teen rock bands, and autotuned divas which made up the 40. Plus, Stu raps, Alex has psychic powers, and Neil recounts a story from his 18th birthday, which coincidentally was in February 1999, that we really weren't prepared for.

Also this time: A potential new Dad of the Pod! Status Quo on GMTV! The most 90s model! And lots, lots more...

You can find Channel NEM's various outlets on their Linktree, and if you like our output then we of course fully recommend subscribing to Neil's channels for much more of the same!

It'll Be Alright In The Nineties - S2 E14 - Quiz-Eaze (in conversation with Nige Tassell)

It's another decade spanning interview this time on IBAITN, and we've got a very special discussion for you this time as bestselling music and sport author Nige Tassell sits down with us (well, with Stu anyway - Alex was unfortunately suspended for this one) to discuss his version of events from the 1990s. Join us as Nige discusses his rollercoaster ride from being a university entertainments officer, via a spell in Minnesota, through to gaining his breakthrough writing job on Venue magazine. Plus, discover why he's gone straight to the top of our 'coolest first car' chart, and which 90s band sent gifts to his wedding, among many other superb anecdotes from an engrossing personal story!

Also this time: Mary Earps' shirt! Cadbury's big secret! The most traumatic postbag we've ever had! And much, much more...

You can find Nige on Twitter here; and we fully recommend all his work, including the books we discussed during the interview 'Field of Dreams' and 'Whatever Happened to the C86 Kids?'. Please ask your local independent bookseller or library for more information! Special thanks must also go to our good friends at the Queen's Head in Box for hosting our interview.

It'll Be Alright In The Nineties - S2 E12 - Careering Through The Plasterboard Into The Master Bedroom (Movies of 1993 with Andy Sayles)

We're back at the Astoria this time on IBAITN as Stu and Alex continue their look at the best movies of the decade with a focus on 1993, and this time they're joined for the ride by friend of the pod and film buff Andy Sayles. Come along with us as amongst many other things, we find out which movie Stu still hates for preventing him from watching Chris Barrie's Motoring Wheel Nuts on VHS, which childhood regret Alex put right by visiting the cinema on his own in 2018, and which distinctly non-relaxing movie still gives Andy vertigo to this day.

Also this time: Forward Video! How many brothers does Alex have? Glyn's loft! We think you're really cool...NOT! And much, much more...

It'll Be Alright In The Nineties - S2 E11 - 'A Cold Night in Vienna' (Goalkeepers in the 90s)

We're back from our short summer break and we've finally fulfilled Stu's long-held wish and done an episode on goalkeeping in the 90s. We're delighted to welcome as a guest Steve Hale - current goalkeeping coach of Crawley Town and previous coach at numerous Football League clubs, and a handy player in his day, not to mention the owner of Steve Hale Goalkeeping School & GK gloves. In our chat with Steve we discuss our favourite 'keepers from the decade, the stand-out saves, the kits (of course) and how the discipline differs now from back then. Yes, it may sound niche, but trust us, you don't want to drop the ball on this one.

Also this week, as it was recently the 2nd birthday of the pod, Stu and Alex carry out their customary gift exchange, and announce their birthday honours.

Tune in to find out which goalie Alex regrets not speaking to in a Travelodge foyer, which keeper Stu sent a birthday card to as a youngster and which modern goalkeeping technique does Steve lament the loss of.

Also this time: Massive posters! VHS tapes! Stu between the sticks! And much, much more...

You can find out more about Steve, and his fine, fine gloves, here: stevehalegoalkeeping.co.uk and he's on Twitter here https://twitter.com/SteveHaleGK

It'll Be Alright In The Nineties - S2 E6 - From Macy Gray to Mongolian Throat Singing (In conversation with Innes Sibun)

We've got another exclusive interview for you this time on It'll Be Alright In The Nineties, as we have the honour of speaking to one of Britain's finest blues guitarists Innes Sibun about his 90s life and times. Along the way we discover how he joined Robert Plant's huge 'Fate of Nations' world tour in 1993, how a video game addiction almost cost him the ability to play guitar, and who really did make the BBC?

The video for Innes' track 'I'll Be There' as discussed during the interview can be found here, and details of all of his forthcoming performances can be found on his official website here.

We also discuss the most 90s dishes with Nick Charlie Key from the Fantastic History of Food podcast, which you can find here.

Blue 42, Blue 42 set, HUT!

IBAITN goes Stateside this week as our returningest guest Glyn Joslin joins us to reminisce about following American Football in the UK in the 90s. There's tales of various pilgrimages made to Wembley Stadium to witness the American Bowl pre-season matches which took place during the early half of the decade, as well as some gridiron games which took place nearer to home, at a venue very close to Stu and Alex's collective hearts. Along the way we encounter the Norton Radstock Starlette Majorettes, a moody T-shirt seller, and Bob Turner, who used to live round the back of Stu's nan. Plus, in a new and refreshed What's The Most 90s segment, our friends Roddy and Jack from the How Many Geese podcast join us for an excellent discussion to decide the identity of the most 90s animal!

Also this time: RIP Lilt! Is Goofy a cow? Hot bananas! Mick Luckhurst! And much, much more...

It'll Be Alright In The Nineties - S1 E37 - Halloween collaboration episode with the Most Millennial Podcast

BOO! Sorry to startle you but we have a very exciting episode for you this time because it’s our first ever collaboration podcast! We’ve teamed up with the Most Millennial Podcast from the the other side of the Atlantic to bring you a special 2-parter. And before you ask, yes, this IS the first Wessex-Colorado collaboration in history, podcast or otherwise.

As we’ve teamed up with a podcast across the pond, and it’s the end of October, what better topic to cover than Halloween? We've decided to split the episode into two parts. We're hosting the first part on our feed, which is what you have here, and then the Most Millennial Podcast will be hosting the second part on their feed - links below. In our half of the double-header we discuss our personal recollections of Halloween, including Stu's family Vauxhall falling foul of an unfortunate trick, Alex choking on now-defunct Italian sweets and Reed's genuine fear of trick or treaters in the Coloradan mountains. We also debate how important it is in the UK vs. the USA, before reading out your brilliant correspondence.

Also: Halloween candy! Terrifying animal noises! Adrian Chiles confusion! and much, much more!

It'll Be Alright In The Nineties - S1 E34 - More of a Finger Man than a Pencil Man (One Hit Wonders of the 90s with Kathryn and Dan from Now That's What I Call Bullsh*t!)

It's time to dust off the chart history books and appreciate the musical acts who were only able to bless us with their presence for a fleeting moment, as we take a look at our favourite one hit wonders of the 90s with our special guests and good friends Kathryn and Dan from the excellent Now That's What I Call Bullsh*t podcast! Along the way Kathryn sets out our joint plans for world podcast domination, we find out which song led to a hasty evacuation of the assembly hall at Stu's primary school, which band makes Alex want to break stuff and do shots, and which Canadian act the guys have agreed to get together to go and watch on their next visit to the UK. Plus there's excellent music industry insight from Dan, who was right in the thick of things throughout the decade!

Also this time: Cassette head cleaners! Wet look gel! Geoff's holiday! Sixpence No More Original Material! Pop music fans make lists! And much, much more...

It'll Be Alright In The Nineties - S1 E33.5 *Bonus Episode* - The Robin Hood films of 1991

Following on from our Films of 1991 episode we're heading to the trees for a special bonus episode on the two Robin Hood films of 1991. Joining us is returning guest, brother of pod Adam. We compare the US blockbuster Prince of Thieves with the lower budget and seemingly forgotten British film 'Robin Hood' starring, among others, a young Uma  Thurman. Along the way we discover what Stu's reactions are to his first  ever viewing of Prince of Thieves, what Adam finds troubling about  Robin's arrival on English soil and Alex is challenged on his controversial Alan Rickman opinion.
Also: troubling title card fonts, William's Wish Wellingtons, phallic cereals and sassy neck-breaks!

It'll Be Alright In The Nineties - S1 E33 - My Parents Banked on Betamax (Films of 1991)

We're continuing our year-by-year deep(ish) dive of the films of the decade. We've done 1990 so you'll not be surprised to hear we're moving on to 1991. We start with a breakdown of the year's box office and award winners before Stu and Alex each select 3 personal highlights from the year. Stu does his best to avoid the infamous ire of Addams Family die-hard fans and does a very brief impression of Arnie, while Alex makes a bold claim about Alan Rickman, and is scandalised by one of the Golden Raspberry award winners. And needless to say, we read out all your great correspondence.

Also: 90s holiday destinations! Sunkist discoveries! Renting VHS players! And much, much more...

It'll Be Alright In The Nineties - S1 E32 - Tony Blackburn and an unwell Dulux dog (30th anniversary of the Premier League with Rob from Premiership Years)

It's football's big 3-0 on the podcast this week as we celebrate the impending 30th anniversary of the inception of the Premier League with our special guest Rob from the excellent Premiership Years on Twitter! We look at the classified results from both the first and last game weeks of the decade, and consider such greatly missed phenomena as half-finished stadia, extremely low attendances and the usage of boot laces on shirts. We also take a look at some of the gimmicks Sky attempted to employ in order to sell their 'whole new ball game' to supporters up and down the country, and there's plenty of quizzes and trivia along the way too, as we come to the inevitable conclusion that football was just better in the nineties.

Also: Alex wears polyester in a heatwave! Stu's first FA Cup final! We all like vindaloo! The Flying Postman! And much, much more...

It'll Be Alright In The Nineties - S1 E31 - 'This Podcast is Disappearing Up it's Own Arse' (Summer Party!)

Summer is here and we're celebrating by finally holding our summer party! We're coming live from the Three Crowns pub in Chippenham and we're joined by dad of the pod Glyn Joslin and our resident pop expert Joe Barter. Joe and Glyn talk us through their favourite cars, games, films, TV and personal memories of the decade, before Stu, Alex and Glyn attempt to play the 1996 Question of Sport boardgame. Along the way we touch upon the surprising magazine Stu read as a pre-teen, the good and the bad of computer game remakes of 90s movies, Bon Jovi gig punters getting upset and ponder whether grunge killed hair-metal?

Also: Stu and Joe try to break the Shazam app, 2-player Gran Turismo, hardcore pub nostalgia, and Crime Traveller with Michael French!

It'll Be Alright In The Nineties - S1 E30 - 'The Thinking Man's Lada' (In Conversation with Jon Amor)

We’re delighted to welcome another fantastic guest to the pod as we talk to musician Jon Amor about his life through the 90s, a decade which saw him form the band the Hoax and rise to international recognition as part of one the UK’s finest blues bands of the era. We ask him about the rise and demise of that band, as well as his post-Hoax career, before running through our usual guest slot questions – what was his favourite car, film, TV show, album, computer game of the decade, and what one thing from the 90s would he most want to bring back?

Also this time: weeing in defunct DIY stores, children’s authors, Sooty scandals, your correspondence and much, much more...

It'll Be Alright In The Nineties - S1 E27 - 'An Adult with a Packet of Skips' (Birthdays in the 90s)

Yet again we've proved the naysayers wrong, we've made it to a year! To celebrate the podcast's birthday we're talking about birthdays in the decade - what were the most popular activities to do as kids in the 90s? What party foods did we eat? And what were our personal favourite presents? Stu and Alex also exchange gifts, run through a recap of the ledger and give out some annual awards, in possibly the least glamorous and under-attended awards ceremony since the last Golden Globes.

Also this time: party bags! what snacks are and are not acceptable for adults in public? Stu's doubting dad! Richard Branston! And lots, lots more...

It'll Be Alright In The Nineties - S1 E26 - Mama Told Me Not To Smoke (Cigarettes and Alcohol in the 90s with Adam Greenwood)

Is it worth the aggravation, to find yourself a pod when there's nothing worth listening to? This time on IBAITN we're joined by returning guest, brother of the pod Adam Greenwood for an in-depth look at the culture surrounding cigarettes and alcohol in the 90s. Come with us as we revisit Stu's time in the D.A.R.E programme, run down some of our favourite alcoholic advertisements, grieve the untimely loss of the chocolate cigarette and relive Alex's brief moment in the sun as the UK's top player of Fantasy Formula One.

Also this time: a new co-host! Joke shop cigarettes! The Silk Cut man! Cream soda! And lots, lots more...

It'll Be Alright In The Nineties - S1 E25 - 'My Nan Voted for Father Christmas' (British Politics in the 90s)

IBAITN is getting serious (relatively speaking) in this episode, as we take a stroll down the corridors of power for a look at British politics in the 90s.

We discuss a few key talking points of the decade in politics, from personal recollections from Stu's school days ('fence-building diplomacy' anyone?) to more general thoughts on how popular culture and the media dealt with the goings-on at Westminster and out in the constituencies.

Also this time: standup comics, Badgerline bus sightings, school turf wars, chilli in Stu's eye, and much, much more...

It'll Be Alright In The Nineties - S1 E24 - Crown Toppers and Mattesons (Only Fools and Horses in the 90s with Wil Hodgson)

IBAITN is going for a trip down Hooky Street this time as comedian, comic artist and official barber of the pod Wil Hodgson returns to join us for a deep dive into the 90s era of Britain's favourite sitcom, Only Fools and Horses!

We look at its transition from the pure comedy of the 80s to a 'sitcom soap' hybrid of the 90s, as well as running down our personal favourite moments from this period of the show. We also tackle the thorny issue of whether or not the show should have returned in 2001 after it had been ended so perfectly in 1996 (spoiler - we all agree it shouldn't have), and find out how Boycie himself, John Challis, almost officiated at Wil's wedding!

Also this time: Tom Hardy writes in! OJ Simpson! Woolworths! MVC killed the CD! And much, much more...

Wil's new show 'Barbicidal Tendencies' is going to the Edinburgh Fringe this summer; South West locals can catch it at the Old Theatre Royal in Bath on Sunday June 12th: https://www.komedia.co.uk/bath/comedy/barbicidal-tendencies/

It'll Be Alright In The Nineties - S1 E23 - 'Jeffrey Dahmer's favourite movie' (Films of 1990)

Snap the clapperboard down because we're ready to yell ACTION on our new series of episodes exploring the films of the decade, one year at a time. Unsurprisingly we're starting with 1990. We have a look at the big award winners and the box office top 10 before choosing some our personal favourites from the year. It really was a terrific year for nostalgic films! Find out which unloved sequels Stu thinks deserve an afternoon of your time, which non-human actors does Alex think can out-act Jared Leto, and which film do they both agree contains some too often overlooked child neglect. Also, lots of your brilliant correspondence!

It'll Be Alright In The Nineties - S1 E22 - RIP Jerome (In Conversation with Rob Brian)

We have yet another fantastic guest for you this time on IBAITN, as Grammy award winning drummer Rob Brian drops in to talk us through his version of events from the 1990s!

Rob takes us on his journey throughout the decade from teenage M&S warehouse man to established touring drummer and teacher, and along the way he picks out his favourite car (easy), TV show (not so easy), movie (difficult) and record (impossible) from the decade for us amongst his many other cultural highlights of the time. Watch out for a forthcoming return episode for Rob on his other passion apart from music - the world of sci-fi!
