Know Your Rights Podcast #3: "10 Years Later: Indonesia's Sexual Assault Laws"

The Know Your Rights Podcast is back to bring you another episode! As we all know, Know Your Rights has the goal to remind us all about the rights that we may have forgotten or the rights that we have to be aware of!

Sexual violence is an issue that Indonesia has been struggling with for years. Insufficient regulations have been a major factor in the rising number of sexual violence cases Indonesia has experienced. This problem led to the notion of creating a new law to combat the occurrences of sexual violence. Therefore, as of 12th April 2022, the UU-TPKS was ratified but many wonder what this law actually entails for the citizens of Indonesia.

With this, ALSA LC UGM’s English Development Division proudly presents a podcast titled: KYR Podcast #3 “10 Years Later: Indonesia’s Sexual Assault Laws”

This discussion will be hosted by our special speakers:

ALSA LAWCAST #4 (Part 2): "Mural Kritik Pemerintah Dihapus Paksa, Masih Bebaskah Rakyat Berpendapat?"

ALSA LAWCAST #4 (Part 2): "Mural Kritik Pemerintah Dihapus Paksa, Masih Bebaskah Rakyat Berpendapat?"

Greetings, ALSAians!

Some time ago, social media was bustling with the appearance of a mural with a face similar to Jokowi's blindfolded with the words 404: Not Found. The discussion became even more lively when the mural was removed by the authorities and not long after a massive mural removal to ones which were suspected to contain criticism towards the government happened. The climax was when those muralists were "hunted" by the police. A huge wave of protest on social media has arisen regarding the people's freedom of expression. Even Gejayan Memanggil held a mural contest titled Lomba Mural Dibungkam, which was participated by muralists in various cities in Indonesia as a form of protest. Public discussion about this case is also associated with the "rebirth" of the article on insulting the president in the RUU KUHP. The question arises: What will happen to the people's freedom of expression in the future?

As the public, especially the muralists concern is increasing regarding the assurance of their right to freedom of expression, it is necessary to hold discussions and actions to raise public awareness about the right to freedom of expression. To realize this goal, the Law Development Division of ALSA LC UGM proudly presents a Podcast entitled:

"LAWCAST #4: "Mural Kritik Pemerintah Dihapus Paksa, Masih Bebaskah Rakyat Berpendapat?"

This discussion will be guided by Moderator: Ainnaya Fitri Qamarani (Law Development, 2020)

And participated by special guests:

1. Amat Banteng - Pecandu Seni Kampus; and

2. Muhammad Fatahillah Akbar, S.H., LL.M. (UGM)

This podcast can be accessed on Spotify ALSA LC UGM. With this podcast, we hope that we can give a comprehensive understanding and spread awareness related to the right of freedom of expression. Stay safe and take care wherever you are!

E-TALKS #5 (Part 2): Traversing the Cyber World: Challenges of Security, Inadequacy of Existing Laws and Rectification

Our world has entered the Digital Era. Technology is all around us and our knowledge is expanded rapidly and vastly through the internet with little to no human intervention. And thus, a new threat emerges, namely Cybercrime. Cybercrime is a crime that involves a computer and a network, in which the computer may have been used in the commission of a crime, or the target, to harm someone's security and financial health. Knowing that Indonesia has been in a rather tough position with regards to cybersecurity, discussing this matter can help shed some light onto what can be done for improvement. This can also raise the citizens' awareness and understanding on how they can protect themselves from cyberattacks.

With that in mind, questions escalate amongst people such as what motivated these data leaks? How do cybercriminal organizations usually operate? And what are the government's attempts to combat these cybercrimes?

To answer those questions, English Development Division ALSA LC UGM proudly presents a Podcast titled:

E-TALKS #5 “Traversing the Cyber World: Challenges of Security, Inadequacy of Existing Laws and Rectification".

[ALSA KNOW YOUR RIGHTS PODCAST #1: You Have The Right to Clean Air]

___________________

Greetings, ALSAians!

Know Your Rights now welcomes you with its newest form, a podcast! Of course, Know Your Rights Podcast still substantially reminds all of us on the rights that we may have forgotten.

Indonesia has always been known as a country with a concerning level of air pollution. In 2019, some of our most notable government officials such as the President and Minister of Environment and Forestry, were sued due to their failure in ensuring the right of people to clean air is fulfilled. Unfortunately, 2 years later, even our state of pandemic and activity levels decreasing does not seem to bring a lot of positive change into the day-to-day air we breathe. The reason for our poor air quality, the existing laws, government attempts and what we can do must be discussed in order to allow citizens to better understand their rights and protect themselves when needed.

With this, ALSA LC UGM's Law Development Division proudly present a podcast titled:

“KYR Podcast #1 “You Have The Right to Clean Air: Right to a Good and Healthy Environment in The Context of Air Quality".

This discussion will be hosted by our special speakers:

Everyone can access this podcast through ALSA LC UGM's Spotify. We hope that this episode can enlighten us all on our right to clean air and the steps we can take to ensure the air we breathe everyday is in great quality. Stay safe and take care wherever you are!

By the end of March 2021, terrorism has been becoming the concern of Indonesia's security. Lately, several terrorism attacks at separated places had occured just in a month. E-TALKS #4 (Part 2) : ASEAN Democracy Alert: Myanmar and the Fall of Democracy?

On the first of February 2021, Burmese Military, the Tatmadaw seized control over Myanmar’s ruling party, the National League for Democracy, which recently had won the general election, capturing President Win Myint and state counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi in the process, and putting the commander in chief of defence services MIN AUNG HLAING in control over Myanmar for a year. With the unreasonable baseless claims imposed by the military to justify their acts, people assembled in a nation-wide demonstration seeking justice in a non-violent movement.

With the sudden mobilization of troops right after the celebration of democracy in the form of general election, the international community instantaneously gazes upon Myanmar, uncertainty escalates amongst people, what is going on in Myanmar, is it really the end of Democracy in Myanmar? E-TALKS #2: The Issuance of a Regulation on Affiliated Party and Conflict of Interest Transaction

On 1 July 2020, Indonesia’s Financial Services Authority, the OJK, issued a new regulation on affiliated party and conflict of interest transaction, OJK Regulation No. 42/POJK.04/2020. This regulation revokes and replaces the existing regulation on the same matter, OJK Regulation No. IX.E.1 and will apply from 21 October 2020.

This regulation is another step by the OJK in tightening the rules for issuers and public companies, after previously issuing new regulations on material transactions, trustee agreement and most recently, private placements for equity-linked debt and/or sukuk issuance.

However, a lot of us are still confused on implementing New Normal in which the government then replaced it with "Adaptasi Kebiasaan Baru". The question is how important the change of New Normal term into Kebiasaan Baru? Are the policies and decisions that the government took are in accordance with the good government principle?
