I Don't Know Anyone In LA

I Don't Know Anyone In LA

By Ana

My name is Ana Fernatt and I don't know anyone in LA.

With more than 4 million people bumping up against each other, how is is possible to feel so alone and isolated?

Each week, I sit down with a Los Angeles resident to connect, talk about our lives and what got us to where we are today.

It's also a show about connection in a larger sense, because each guest introduces me to the following week's guest. As the week's progress, it'll filter up a chain on people who can all be linked back to each other through who they know.

Meet Reuben Bresler

Meet Reuben Bresler

Meet Reuben Bresler, professional DnD Dungeon Master for The Broken Pact, former professional Poker player and voice actor. In this episode, we talk about how to read body language and what our special skills are for the Apocalypse...little did we know how relevant that would be! About The Show: LA is a city of 4 million spread over 503 miles, 114 neighborhoods and can take over an hour to get from one side to the other. With that many people bumping up against each other, how is it possible to feel alone and isolated. It's a city of paradox: dreams and heartbreak. Lifelong locals and those just coming in for a shot. Each week, I sit down with a Los Angeles resident to connect. Talk about our lives and what got us to where we are today. Talking. What does it mean for two people to get to know each other? It's also a show about connection in the larger sense, because each guest introduces me to the following week's guest. And as the weeks progress, it'll filter up a chain of people who can all be linked back to each other through who they know. That person we pass in the street, get behind at the grocery store, sit next to at the bar. They are all more connected to us than we may realize at first glance. A couple handshakes away...or, for the bold, maybe just one. I'm Ana Fernatt and I don't know anyone in LA. But...now I know you. Special thanks to IG: music.emilymartin for the intro/outro and IG: nonaleon for the cover art. Follow me at IG: AnaAndThings.

Meet Kate Turnipseed

Meet Kate Turnipseed. She is the cohost of the Lady Wave podcast, an Alabaman and the person who makes your favorite TV shows run smoothly. In this episode, we talk about growing up feminist, period health and homelessness in LA.

Homelessness is a topic that has come up in the past two episodes. LA does have resources. If there are homeless living near you, you can fill out this super easy form (https://www.lahsa.org/portal/apps/la-hop/request)  with the Los Angeles Homeless Authority. LAHA will go check the situation out, help your homeless neighbors get in touch with resources and find safer places to live. Don't call the cops on the homeless unless you are in immediate and real physical danger, because you will potentially put that person into harm's way or make the mountain that this person is already climbing even larger.

Meet Kat Woods

Meet Kat Woods

Meet Kat Woods, a possibly radioactive celebrity hairstylist who works out of Harlot on Melrose. I immediately adored Kat, because she is chill, real and witty. I think you'll adore her too. In this episode, Kat and I talk about having a situationship with LA's public transportation, the wild wild west of early dating apps and I openly tell a hairstylist all the very real no-nos that I am currently doing while trying to educate myself on my hair texture.
About The Show:
LA is a city of 4 million spread over 503 miles, 114 neighborhoods and can take over an hour to get from one side to the other. With that many people bumping up against each other, how is it possible to feel alone and isolated. It's a city of paradox: dreams and heartbreak. Lifelong locals and those just coming in for a shot.

Paul Nawrocke is a coordinator for the Dr. Phil show with an ear for up-and-coming music...specifically a whole bunch of bands I had never heard of but swore to discover on Spotify. We talk about vegetarianism, roommates, the wild-wild drive from the midwest to LA and this is also an episode with a spooky ghost story, which is something I will always love.

Sam Kieffer is hypnotically voiced and thoughtfully spoken Los Angeles resident. He also happens to be a podcast producer at Earwolf, which is why the sound quality of this episode is 100% clearer and 100% less interrupted by Figaro barking. Many of the shows that bricked together my own approach to podcasting have been produced by Earwolf. This includes Professor Blastoff, which Sam spent some time working on. In this episode, we talk about staying grounded and how to avoid getting lost in a city like LA.

Earthquake Update

Los Angeles felt the effects of two major earthquakes over the July 4th weekend, which had me reflecting on this show a little bit. In good times, community is so important. In times of crisis, it's vital. Additionally, the things that eventually helped me to calm down and get some sleep are products of this city...which feels worth calling out.

AJ Trexler is a voice actor and friend of Fernando. Both AJ and host Ana Fernatt move to LA from Chicago. In this episode, we talk about what that midwest to west coast transition is like, the benefits of living in the Valley and finding your niche...even if it's different from what you set out to do.
No, it is not your eyes playing tricks on you. This expertly edited photo is in fact of two people who are not in the same room. First, I forgot after recording. And then, I celebrated my birthday the night before we scheduled to take a photo together.

Introducing I Don't Know Anyone In LA

Introducing I Don't Know Anyone In LA

My name is Ana Fernatt and I don't know anyone in LA.

Through the course of this show, I'm looking to change that by sitting down with a new Los Angeles resident each week, being vulnerable about what it means to connect with someone, especially in adulthood, and finding community in a city notoriously tough to find your place in, geographically spread out and so intimidating.

It's also a show about connection in a larger sense, because each week's guest introduces me to the following week's guest. And, as the weeks progress, it'll filter up a chain of people who can all be linked back to each other through who they know.

I don't know anyone in LA, but now I know you.
