The AFA Podcast 146: Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse [Commentary]
Well, hello there! Can you believe The AFA Podcast is five years old this summer? We decided we needed to do something pretty special to mark this occasion. And what better way than by talking about one of our favourite films released in this podcast's lifetime (but somehow didn't managed to do a full episode on yet)? We were able to get the full original crew (as heard on the first episode) for the first time in a while- Rachael, Chris, Dan and Yvonne are all here! The film in question is none other than the Oscar-winning, game-changing dimension-hopping, web-swinging Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse.
We decided to do it as a commentary episode, so to get the most out of it feel free to watch along with us! After a short introduction, the discussion starts (and you can start the movie) after the countdown. Obviously, this episode is rather spoiler heavy, and contains some NSFW language. Here's to the next five years!

THE PEONY PAVILION was recently selected as a Winner in the Animation Nights New York 5th ANNY Best of Fest in 2021.
THE PEONY PAVILION
"A Stroll in the Garden and an Interrupted Dream" is a scene from "The Peony Pavilion", a romantic tragicomedy play written by Chinese playwright Tang Xianzu during the Ming Dynasty. It depicts a love story, which takes place during the dream of Du Liniang, the heroine, and vacillates between the legend and the reality. The unique dream of Du Liniang that has been transmitted over 600 years now comes to you in the form of stop-motion animation with its subtle emotion revealed more vividly in the haunting tune and lingering sentiments of Kunqu Opera. We try to rejuvenate the long-lasting love story with the special charm of stop-motion animation. On the table-sized stage, you will see the joint dancing of Du Liniang and Flower Goddesses, and the lively and joyful performance of the judge from a netherworld and his ghosts. Entering into the dream along with Du Liniang, we, in our turn, question ourselves on the meaning of real life, and pursuit of eternal freedom and romantic love.

The AFA Podcast Interview: #PayAnimationWriters with Joey Clift (The Animation Guild)
Welcome back to The AFA Podcast for a very important episode of our interview specials. In this episode, AFA's Evan Vernon spoke with writer, actor and comedian Joey Clift from The Animation Guild to talk about their current efforts to negotiate a fairer deal for animation writers, who are currently paid considerably less than their live-action equivalents for doing the same job. They discuss the #PayAnimationWriters and the wider #NewDeal4Animation social media campaigns which are designed to spread awareness for animation professionals' mistreatment by an industry that they profited greatly from and particularly over the past two years, come to rely on.
If you would like to help, show your support on social media by sharing the hashtags and resharing posts from animation workers and campaigners. Huge thanks to Joey and TAG for talking to us!
