KJ talks about broadcasting and podcasting
This episode was originally recorded as a guest lecture for my Summer 2022 First Amendment course. I appreciated KJ's candid takes on working in broadcast and as a podcaster. You can find her by looking up KJ Today -- her live show is on YouTube Wednesdays at 7 p.m. Eastern (https://www.youtube.com/kjtoday) and she is in charge of Kinda Nerdy Network. Dylan Roahrig -- Take 2
In mid-May 2022, two years after my first podcast guest and I spoke about First Amendment issues for my online summer class, Dylan Roahrig, host of The Walter Paisley Movie House and I caught up to talk about issues like obscenity, cancel culture, separating the art from the artist, and other topics. If you want an even deeper dive, you might enjoy the first episode from August 2020, and you can check out some past episodes including the executive director of Earth Charter Indiana, Jim Poyser; the executive director of Gal's Guide Library, Dr. Leah Leach; and some of my ramblings from the height of COVID times. Jim Poyser - Earth Charter Indiana
Many years ago, Jim Poyser gave me my first opportunity to write for NUVO and we eventually became friends, frequently running into each other at arts events around Indy. In September 2013, he joined Earth Charter Indiana as Executive Director, and our paths crossed yet again. In this interview, recorded via Zoom in March 2021 as a guest speaker video for my First Amendment Law class for Summer 2021, we talk about First Amendment issues from his time working for alternative weekly newspapers, plus, what it's like starting and working on a new initiative for school-age journalists covering issues around climate change. Leah Leach - Guide to Historical Gals, Podcaster & Filmmaker
Dr. Leah Leach oversees the first independent women's history library in the United States, located in Noblesville, Ind. GalsGuide.org has all the details. Prior to the pandemic, she would administer educational programming to schools and other organizations, and currently has been working on virtual programming and continues to work on podcasts, also available at GalsGuide.org. She talks about what it's like running a new library, the library's criteria, her thoughts on censorship, and the role of the artist.
