Beginners Arabic Lesson 23: Jom Belajar Bahasa Arab dengan Melati Lum! (In Malay)
In this episode my sister Melati and I practise our sketchy Malay and at the same time learn how to say some phrases in Arabic on what Melati studied and where she worked. For non-Malay speakers skip to 7mins and 30secs for a short lesson.
Melati Lum has a background in criminal law having prosecuted a wide range of serious offences in the courts. She's an Australian, Malay/Chinese, Muslim mum who loves getting lost in a good book, or equally lost exploring a new country, learning about its people, food and culture. Melati hopes to help diversify the range of heroines and heroes available to readers young and old. She lives in Adelaide, Australia with her family (including two very fluffy, hypoallergenic, Siberian cats).

We initially connected discussing Islamic financing issues but then quickly found out that we both have a love for the Arabic language! Check out my Arabic Podcast Lesson with the phenomenal brother Barry Danielian who is a retired former trumpet player for Bruce Springsteen's E-Street Band. To add to that, he also proficient in Arabic! I caught him a few years ago while he was on tour in Australia to give us a short Arabic lesson on conjugating سافر or He Travelled in the past tense. In this lesson we learn the following phrases in Arabic.

Beginners Arabic Lesson 12: Basic Past Tense Sentences in Arabic with Faruq
In this lesson, we mix it up with our Arabic student Faruq. We're still focusing on the past tense verbs and developing basic sentences around them. Today we go through a day in the life of the great man himself Faruq; how he went to work, ate a banana with colleagues and of course going to Arabic class, exciting stuff! We also briefly talk about the times of the day. You can use the five prayers as time markers so before the Maghrib prayer or after it etc.

Beginners Arabic Lesson 11: This and That - Demonstrative Pronouns
We did this lesson at like 11:30pm after all the kids finally went to sleep so apologies if it sounds like we’re going to sleep ourselves! In today's lesson Anisa will be taking you through the demonstrative pronouns or asmaa2 ul-isharah (أسماء الإشارة). You'll learn how to say 'This is a...' to masculine and feminine objects. We’ll also walk you through asking 'What is this?' ma hadha? ما هذا؟ (m) or ما هذه؟ (f) and the term 'that' dhalika / ذلك for (m) and tilka / تلك for (f).
