Lori and Bianca talk about the importance of mental health with our youth

Lori and Bianca talk about the importance of mental health with our youth

It's harder to be a kid now than it has ever been. Two school counselors, Lori LaFond and Bianca Brown come on and talk to me about the importance of mental health in our youth. It's never been more important, especially going back to remote learning during a pandemic and with the holidays coming up. These two ladies were awesome in talking about their backgrounds and how they affect their views on the job, how it's harder to navigate being a kids than ever (especially with social media) and about being aware of changes in the behavior of our kids.  I can't express how awesome they were and how important this topic is!!

Joined by my friends Amy and Ross to talk about how adopting a black son has changed their lives

A little different guest choice for this episode, Amy and Ross adopted their son Harvey and they join me to talk about how this has affected them and their views. We talk about so many things - the adoption process, self assessment on their ideas of race and race relations, family opinions and not being able to relate to him on certain situations when he gets older. We also discussed how I felt about adopting outside of your race and discussed the idea of "not seeing color" and so much more. They spoke open and honestly and I couldn't appreciate it more. A different perspective on people affecting the African American community in a different way.
