Thank you Aya El Jurdi! A one of a kind defender
On April 8, 2023, which marks her 25th birthday, Aya El Jurdi, the Lebanese football player, decided to hang up her boots.
Why this early? What pushed Aya to take this decision? How did she announce it? How did her teammates and friends react?
In this 17th episode of the podcast, Aya finally gave us an explanation.
We also talked about her future plans at PSG Academy, her two ACL injuries and if she had a chance, what changes would she have made in her football career?
Believe me, you wouldn't want to miss this episode!

ACL injuries in women's football: a worrying situation
In the last couple of years, more than 90 ACL injuries were recorded in the top tier of women's football. This is definitely a worrying number.
In episode 16 of the podcast, I had a very informative talk with Elie Metni, the Lebanese national team physiotherapist, on the ACL injury, how it happens, the differences between female body and male body, the importance of mental coaching during ACL rehab and other topics.

Women's Football assessment in Lebanon: where are we?
Back when women's football was still building itself, only few journalists were there to cover the game and give credits to the female footballers. One of those journalists, the most devoted between them all, is Riad Omeirat.
In this episode with Riad, we discussed the current situation of women's football in Lebanon. We talked about his favorite moments as a Lebanese women's football supporter, ideas to develop the game, importance of having support from men's football clubs, his favorite player, his Dream XI, and other topics.

On a football field, Dima combined classiness and intelligence
I had the honor to sit down and chat with Dima Krayem, one of those intelligent football players I looked up to when I first started playing in Lebanon.
From IC and AUB's football teams, passing by Al-Ansar over to captaining Athletico Sports Club, Dima Krayem was aiming for the stars. But her repetitive knee injuries and her belief that living out of football is impossible in Lebanon forced her to retire early, at 27.

What's wrong with Lebanese Football?
In this episode (#12) of the podcast, Fayez Fadda and I dug into the heart of Lebanese Football and try to analyze why is the game slowly dying.
Sports in Lebanon largely depend on politics and religion, but here we are months away from Lebanon's fourth participation at the Basketball World Cup while Lebanese football is struggling to survive.
Why? What makes the difference between the two sports? And how can we "reshape" Lebanon's most popular sport to make it professional, successful and profitable?

Women's Football in Saudi Arabia with Riyan Al-Jidani
In this 11th episode, Riyan Al-Jidani, a Women's Football expert, shared with me the reasons behind the game's fast growth in Saudi Arabia.
During the episode, many subjects were discussed:
- Is the Saudi Arabian society changing? is women's football now accepted in the society?
- The Saudi Women's Premier League: the importance of having foreign players, the impact on the national team and the future plans.
- Cristiano Ronaldo, Al Nassr's new Mega-Recruit: will his presence play a positive role in the growth of women's football?
- Why is women's football developing fast in Saudi Arabia?
For info, the Saudi National Women's team was only created a couple of years ago, while the first edition of the Women's Premier League just witnessed Al-Nassr crowned as champions!

Andrea Abi Saab - The face of Lebanese Women's Volleyball
If Women's Football in Lebanon is passing through what might be considered as a development phase, Women's Volleyball is struggling to exist.
In Episode 9, I sat down with Andrea Abi Saab, a member of the Lebanese Women's National Volleyball team and had a very pleasant and informative talk about the situation of women's volleyball in the country.
Andrea is currently playing in France with ASC Dunois and was part of the National Team that won the 2022 West Asian Championship.

Natalie Ghabayen between the football fields and the basketball courts!
In this eighth episode, I had the opportunity to sit down with Natalie Ghabayen and discuss both women's football and women's basketball in Lebanon.
Natalie is considered one of the few to have played both sports in Lebanon. In Basketball, she was an important member of many teams such as Sagesse, Champville, Antranik and Homentmen. In Football, she started her career as the main goalkeeper for Athletico. She also played with Girls Football Academy "GFA". And if that's not enough, Natalie also played futsal!
Several topics were discussed: her early days in Basketball, the lack of professionalism in basketball back then, her jump to football, the development that Lebanese women's basketball had in the last years, the struggles of women's football clubs, List A in basketball and the importance of having a well structured league, having the matches broadcasted on TV, and lastly, the role of agents in securing contracts for female basketball players.
An episode not to be missed, that's for sure!

Rana Mokdad and why Physical Fitness is crucial in Football!
Rana Mokdad is without any doubt one of the most dedicated and hardworking girls in the Lebanese Football Community.
From a young age, and unlike the majority of female footballers in Lebanon, she worked on the physical aspect of her game. She took it to a whole new level when she decided to do a masters in "Sports and Exercise Science" at the Technical University of Munich.
In this episode, we discussed many topics: from the importance of being fit, to the misjudgments in our Lebanese football regarding certain body types, passing by the necessity of including the fitness aspect in any team's programme, as well as her future objectives.

What about Women's Football in Qatar?
The 2022 Qatar Men's World Cup was considered by many as the best ever Men's World Cup.
But what about Women's Football in Qatar? How's it going there? Where does the Qatari Women's National Team stand in the FIFA Ranking?
In this sixth episode, I share with you the history of Women's Football in Qatar and its lack of development.

Samira Awad and the "no professionalism" in Lebanon
After dedicating most of her life for football, Samira Awad had a decision to take: to stop or not to stop playing football?
Due to the lack of opportunities/funding/visibility in the women's game in Lebanon, playing football cannot but remain a hobby for most of the girls. They find themselves obliged to mix football with their studies or their work (or both!)
During this fifth episode, Samira explained her decision, talked about her national team experiences, and chose her dream-team!
