Acclaimed NYT Bestseller Ralph Pezzullo on Memoirs and SAIGON
NYT bestseller Ralph Pezzullo steps into the Interrogation Room to try getting his story straight about his latest release, a fictionalized memoir called SAIGON.
Ralph grew up globetrotting as his father’s State Department assignments changed every few years. He lived in Saigon from 1962 to ’65, during the times of the Tonkin Gulf Incident, the overthrow of President Diem, a number of other coup d’etats, and almost daily Vietcong terror attacks against Americans. Ralph was in Bolivia while Che Guevara worked to establish a guerilla training camp there, and in Nicaragua during the first days of the Sandanista Revolution. He’s also lived in Uruguay, Mexico, Washington, D.C., Colombia, and Guatemala. He made friends with the locals wherever he lived, and he sometimes found that circumstances at the street level varied greatly from those advocated at higher levels of international diplomacy.
Ralph’s critically acclaimed writing has included thriller and mystery novels, nonfiction, plays, screenplays, and investigative journalism. He’s worked with directors such as Oliver Stone and James Foley, and with former CIA covert operative Gary Bernsten and former LAPD detective Steve Hodel.
His latest release, SAIGON, launched on November 1st. It’s a coming of age story based on his own experiences in Saigon during the early 60s.
In this episode, Ralph and host Gavin Reese discuss writing memoirs, fictionalizing personal experiences, and who would investigate Ralph's homicide.

Acclaimed Writer David Rohlfing on Small Town Cops, Craft, and Heart Attacks
In this episode, retired businessman David Rohfling steps into the Interrogation Room to try getting his story straight.
The first thing to known about David is that he suffered a major heart attack, a “widow maker,” in 2019 and had no sign of life for 15 minutes. Doctors brought him back, but he wants you to know that getting a Coronary Calcium CT Scan might help you avoid his fate. As most people with his condition are dead, he’d prefer that you not find out the hard way that your heart needs help.
Back to the show!
After a long career in business that allowed him to travel to all but one continent and countless countries around the globe, David created the Detective Sasha Frank Mystery Series. The award winning first novel in the series, “Deliberate Duplicity,” released in early January 2021. The second, “Cold Consequences,” released in July 2021, and the third installment will appear in 2022. David placed his detective in suburb of Bloomington, Illinois, which brings specific story and craft elements to his tales.

Stacy Hawk’s “Dividing Ridge” is True Crime in 1937 on the Blue Ridge Parkway
In this episode 258, we visit with Stacy Hawks, author of “Dividing Ridge,” based on a true story of an unsolved crime that took place along the Blue Ridge Parkway in Alleghany, N.C. in 1937.
After a young woman goes missing on her way to school a community is left on edge. With news spreading quickly of her disappearance and gossip swirling, it is up to local law enforcement to restore a sense of safety and one determined Sheriff to bring justice to her family.
Author Alison Klackowicz had this to say about the book: "In the era of “true crime” fanaticism, Dividing Ridge is the PERFECT read. The author takes the reader on a poignant, well-studied and researched journey of a historic non-fiction mystery. All the while, providing a respectful re-account of a decades long loss to a family in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. Hawks masterfully keeps the memory of the victim, Elva Brannock, alive. Excellent read."

Cherie Priest & GRAVE RESERVATIONS On Wine Women & Writing With Pamela Fagan Hutchins
Join the chat as the very funny Cherie Priest visits Wine Women & Writing with Pamela Fagan Hutchins to discuss her new release, GRAVE RESERVATIONS, along with dogs, cats, and comfort TV.
A psychic travel agent and a Seattle PD detective solve a murder in this quirky mystery in the vein of Lisa Lutz’s The Spellman Files and Charlaine Harris’s Aurora Teagarden series.
About Cherie:
I write novels. I mean, I do other things too – but the books are probably the reason you’re reading this. So here goes.
To date, I’ve had 24 full-length projects published. My most recent books are The Toll, The Agony House, and The Family Plot. My best-known book is probably Boneshaker (2009) – which was nominated for a Nebula Award and a Hugo Award. Boneshaker also won the PNBA Award, as well as the Locus Award for Best Science Fiction Novel.
On a more personal note – in 2006 I moved from Chattanooga, Tennessee, to Seattle, Washington. Then in 2012, I moved back to Tennessee. In 2017, I moved back to Seattle – where I live at present with my husband, two dogs, and a very large cat we call the House Yeti.
It’s kind of a long story.
I was born in Tampa, Florida, on the day Jimmy Hoffa disappeared. I’m inordinately fond of zombies, trashy goth music, and cheap red wine. I have a phobic aversion to unfinished ceramics, an allergy to yellow dye #7, and a morbid fear of sloths.
For further stats, check my Wikipedia entry. It’s mostly correct, though often at least partially wrong – and routinely out of date. Wikipedia won’t let me fix anything, even my occupations, publications, or graduation years. Apparently I’m not qualified to address such matters of hearsay.
GRAVE RESERVATIONS:
Meet Leda Foley: devoted friend, struggling travel agent, and inconsistent psychic. When Leda, sole proprietor of Foley's Flights of Fancy, impulsively re-books Seattle PD detective Grady Merritt’s flight, her life changes in ways she couldn’t have predicted.
After watching his original plane blow up from the safety of the airport, Grady realizes that Leda’s special abilities could help him with a cold case he just can’t crack.
Despite her scattershot premonitions, she agrees for a secret reason: her fiancé’s murder remains unsolved. Leda’s psychic abilities couldn’t help the case several years before, but she’s been honing her skills and drawing a crowd at her favorite bar’s open-mic nights, where she performs Klairvoyant Karaoke—singing whatever song comes to mind when she holds people’s personal effects.
Now joined by a rag-tag group of bar patrons and pals alike, Leda and Grady set out to catch a killer—and learn how the two cases that haunt them have more in common than they ever suspected.

Season 1 Episode 9 - Acadiana Short Stories
There is something special about short stories. Every word matters. For authors, it can be challenging to develop characters in so few words, but for those who get it right, the effect is remarkable.
www.jameslambert-author.com/
After 42 years as a successful attorney in the Acadiana area, Jim Lambert has turned his skills toward creating short stories. In his new, critically acclaimed collection of stories, "Sub Rosa and Other Stories" Lambert's stories explore pain and loss in the South. He has created quirky, often marginalized characters who contend with forces beyond their control or understanding — including racial terror, childhood traumas, family betrayals. Lambert's readers meet characters including a childhood friend of Lee Harvey Oswald, a young lawyer sent to investigate the murder of Black troops in the Jim Crow South — and a mental patient obsessed with the film Harold and Maude. In each story, Lambert reveals the humor and tragedy running through the lives of these unique human beings.

Christy Hallberg’s “Searching for Jimmy Page”
In this episode 255, we visit with Christy Hallberg, author of “Searching for Jimmy Page,” a coming-of-age tale that takes the reader from the hills of eastern Carolina to the streets of London.
When Luna Kane recovers a memory of her dead mother—a mentally ill woman obsessed with Jimmy Page—she seeks a connection with her mother by searching for her father.
Liza Wieland, author of “Paris, 7 A.M.,” had this to say about the book, “"In her wondrous first novel, Christy Hallberg gives us a mystery, a mother-daughter love story, a paean to rock and roll, and a window into the culture of eastern North Carolina, all joined seamlessly by the elegance and poetry of her writing. It’s a book that begs to be read twice, first to find out the true story of Luna’s parentage, and then again, immediately but more slowly, to savor the beauty of the language."

Writing Wrongs - Bill Myers Interviews Sarah Vogel, author of "The Farmer's Lawyer"
sarahmvogel.com/
Sarah Vogel: an attorney, advocate, and author of The Farmer’s Lawyer, a memoir about my landmark class action lawsuit, Coleman v. Block. I brought this historic case when I was a young lawyer and single mother, against the federal government, on behalf of 240,000 family farmers facing foreclosure during the 1980s farm crisis. I’ve spent most of my career as an advocate for family farmers, women, and Native Americans. I also served two terms as North Dakota Commissioner of Agriculture, and I was the first woman in U.S. history to be elected to this position in any state. I live in Bismarck, North Dakota.
Host: Best-selling author William L.Myers Jr. will dive in to the thriller genre and recommend books and authors for listeners.

Love, College Sports, and the South in Ed Southern’s “Fight Songs”
In this episode, we visit with Ed Southern, author of “Fight Songs: A Story of Love and Sports in a Complicated South.”
Why do sports mean so much that so many will play and watch them in the face of a global pandemic? How have college sports shaped how southerners construct their identities, priorities, and allegiances? Why is North Carolina passionate about college basketball when its neighbors to the South live and die by college football? Fight Songs explores the connections and contradictions between the teams we root for and the places we plant our roots; between the hopes of fans and the demands of the past, present, and future.
Travis Mulhauser, author of “Sweetgirl,” had this to say about the book, "I promise that you have never read a book that so beautifully and intimately reveals the soul at the center of sports fandom—that understands so fully what it means to root. Fight Songs is a book about love and history and culture. Its truths are arrived at honestly and without pretense and it is, quite simply, one of the greatest sports books you will ever read."

Author Amber Garza Interviewed By Authors Jennifer Anne Gordon And Allison Martine
ambergarza.com
Amber Garza has had a passion for the written word since she was a child making books out of notebook paper and staples. Her hobbies include reading and singing. Coffee and wine are her drinks of choice (not necessarily in that order). She writes while blaring music, and talks about her characters like they’re real people. She lives with her husband and two kids in Folsom, California, which is—no joke—home to another Amber Garza.
She is currently working on her next novel.
VOX VOMITUS: Sometimes, it's not what goes right in the writing process, it's what goes horribly wrong. Host/Literary horror novelist Jennifer Anne Gordon with help from her co-host/author Allison Martine, chat with some of the best authors of the day.

ME Browning & MERCY CREEK (Part 2: Micki says, Pamela says) on Wine Women & Writing
Join Pamela Fagan Hutchins for Part 2 of a hilarious "Micki says, Pamela says" segment in her chat with ME "Micki" Browning, author of the Jo Wyatt series and new release MERCY CREEK, as the two Mountain West mystery writers go head to head on "Confidential Never Asked Questions."
M.E. BROWNING writes the Jo Wyatt Mysteries. The first in the series, Shadow Ridge, won the Colorado Book Award for Mystery and the silver medal in the popular fiction category of the Florida Book Awards. The adventures continue in Mercy Creek, which launches in October 2021. Writing as Micki Browning, she penned the Agatha-nominated and award-winning Mer Cavallo mysteries, Adrift and Beached, and her short stories and nonfiction have appeared in anthologies, textbooks, diving and mystery magazines. Micki’s novels draw on her twenty-two years of experience in law enforcement. An FBI National Academy graduate, she retired as a captain before turning to a life of crime…fiction. Visit http://mebrowning.com to learn more.
MERCY CREEK:
In an idyllic Colorado town, a young girl goes missing—and the trail leads into the heart and mind of a remorseless killer.
The late summer heat in Echo Valley, Colorado turns lush greenery into a tinder dry landscape. When a young girl mysteriously disappears, long buried grudges rekindle. Of the two Flores girls, Marisa was the one people pegged for trouble. Her younger sister, Lena, was the quiet daughter, dutiful and diligent—right until the moment she vanished.
Detective Jo Wyatt is convinced the eleven-year-old girl didn’t run away and that a more sinister reason lurks behind her disappearance. For Jo, the case is personal, reaching far back into her past. But as she mines Lena’s fractured family life, she unearths a cache of secrets and half-lies that paints a darker picture.
As the evidence mounts, so do the suspects, and when a witness steps forward with a shocking new revelation, Jo is forced to confront her doubts, and her worst fears. Now, it's just a matter of time before the truth is revealed—or the killer makes another deadly move.
