BEAT IELTS

IELTS General Writing Task 1 (Formal Letter) checks your ability to communicate about common practical issues of daily life. You will have 20 minutes to respond to a question prompt, by writing a letter to a person, company, or institution. Task 1 response carries 30% to 40% of your writing score and is graded separately from the Task 2 essay.

The information includes test-taking tips, strategies to identify the type of letter you are being asked to write.

The common tips to locate answers in the given passage, keywords in question, sequence of finding answers, and relevant vocabulary to be filled as per the instructions given in the question of Table, Flow Chart, Diagram and Short Answers Completion Type Questions. The answers should be filled as per the instructions given in the question whether one/ two/ three word/words and/or a number.

Multiple choice questions are types of questions that require you to pick the correct answer from the given choices of alphabets A, B, C and D. This tests your ability to understand the detailed and specific information. Matching the Information Type questions require you to find a specific information and place them at an appropriate position. You need to be able to understand every paragraph and what information it contains. In Sentence completion
type of question, you will find an incomplete sentence. You are supposed to complete it with words taken from the text. You are required to quickly map the incomplete text to a particular location in the text for you to find the correct answer.
In Summary completion, a summarised text will be given to you. You are required to complete it by selecting words from the text with a given maximum number of words to complete it.

In the matching headings type question, you will be given a list of headings and then asked to match the heading to the correct paragraphs or sections whereas some headings and even paragraphs might remain unused. In True/False/Not Given or Yes/No/Not GivenType questions, you will have to identify information, from a number of statements and asked if the given statements agree with the information in the text. When you answer the questions, you write “True”or"Yes", “False"or"No” and “Not given” in the answer. People get confused between False and Not Given type, therefore, it is important to understand the difference between them. “False” means the passage states the opposite of the statement in question. “Not given” means that the statement is not at all given (neither directly nor indirectly) in the passage.

This podcast is based on format, Tips and some frequently asked questions about READING section in both type of modules. In the Academic module , you will find three sections, each having one long text.
These texts are excerpts of either science-fiction books, magazines or newspapers. The topics are of general interest, and doesn't require you to be a professional to answer them. These excerpts can range from being factual, descriptive and even analytical. There may also be infographic elements like graphs, diagrams or some flow chart. If in case, there are medical or technical terms used, a glossary is usually provided.

In this episode, we will discuss about the overall layout of MCQ section, which usually comes in Section 1, 3 and rarely in 4 (if difficulty level is higher). Strategies to crack MCQ section will be shared.

Description of pauses, accents, difficulty level, contexts, and sources of learning English for listening purposes. Also, the type of questions that come under each section, and strategy to handle such questions, will be discussed in detail.

You will listen to four recordings for each section (from 1-4). The recordings will be of native English speakers with a variety of accents. Recordings will be played only once. You need to write your answers on question paper while listening and transfer to answer sheet later.
