Ruth McGinley
Derry born pianist, Ruth McGinley quickly became a young star of classical music when she won the piano final of the BBC Young Musician of the Year competition in 1994. Since then, Ruth has performed as soloist with many orchestras including the BBC Philharmonic, National Symphony Orchestra, RTE Concert Orchestra and Ulster Orchestra and as a solo recitalist throughout the UK, Europe and the Middle East. Ruth broadcasts regularly for BBC Radio 3, Classic FM, BBC Radio Ulster and RTE, and was honoured to be invited to perform as soloist at the BBC Proms in the Park. In this episode we explore the highs and lows of pursuing a career as a concert pianist and the importance of looking after your mental health in such a high pressure industry.
