We are all striving to reach our ultimate potential. We can do and be more than we are today. Although we don't always talk about it, emotions are a big part of reaching our potential. If we don't learn to manage our mental health and emotional wellbeing, they may end up managing us.

Emotions exist in the workplace. Surprise! HR is tasked with so many things - including the wellbeing of others, but who helps HR?

Belonging in HR
Belonging in HR - with Cassandra Rose    HR can be a lonely job.  Not only can you face compassion fatigue, burnout, and feeling undervalued, but you can feel like you just don't belong.   Have you ever tried to fit in with the company or the other employees and you just don't feel like you belong?  They change the conversation when you come near or you can rarely see their true selves when you are around because they see you as the company enforcer.  Cassandra and I discuss this and more: Recontract with yourself   Take breaks   How to feel like you belong   Separating who you are from what you do   The value of reconnecting to your humanity   If you would like to feel more confident in who you are and what you do, I'd love to help you.  Visit my website and check out my coaching packages.

Emotions and Being A New Leader
I really enjoyed this episode with Marianne Scarzello on Emotions and Being a New Leader.   Being a new leader can expose you to many emotions, those of others, but especially your own.  It can be a scary and vulnerable thing when you are new and want to appear that you have all the answers or have everything put together.  If you don't learn to properly manage your emotions, your different feelings will turn into self-doubt, fear, and anger.   Marianne shared some great, simple advice on the following:   When dealing with others' emotions (and your own):    Start small    Take little breaks     Don't try to do it alone If you don't take care of yourself, "I should be able to" turns into "why am I not able to."   To learn more about managing your emotions, especially in leadership, visit

Julie Turney is a fellow cofounder of HR Wellbeing Week.  She and I have a great discussion on burnout, especially in HR.  We also discuss the following:  What to do when you experience burnout  You can't help other people until you realize you need help yourself  You can't help anyone else if you are burned out  The benefits of therapy and coaching  Find ways to take care of yourself that work for you  "Ego is the anesthesia that deadens the pain of stupidity"  Why it is ok for HR to ask for help  Being human means you can admit the highs and lows of life  No matter how good we look on the outside, we are all dealing with our own demons. If you want to join a community that talks more about HR Wellbeing, with topics like this one, you are invited to join the HR Wellbeing group on LinkedIn.  It is free to join and we have monthly webinars on relevant topics.  Join here:

Episode 26 - Loving Yourself Even After Making A Mistake - with Taylor Martin
This episode is one that I feel is very needed for someone to hear.     So often we seek to belong.  But as part of that quest, we may sacrifice our values and participate in behavior that eventually makes us question how we feel about ourselves.  We feel we have drifted so far from our values that there is no coming back. We struggle to love ourselves after having made so many mistakes.   Taylor shares her experience and how she learned to love herself even after having made many mistakes.   The daughter of addiction and a former member of the “Work Hard, Numb Hard” society, Taylor knows the suffocating effects of addiction and fear. In a pursuit to find her authentic self, Taylor removed all titles and affiliations to her name becoming just Taylor. She allowed herself to journey around the world and live the life of her literal dreams. Her mission to inspire and be inspired led her to forge new career paths as both a writer and teacher. In her writings, Taylor shares her triumphs in overcoming limitations created by her past of addiction, sexual assault, and abuse. As a teacher, she coaches women globally on how to find and pursue their greatest potentials, showing them how to detach themselves from their defining labels so that they too can face their fears and become their truest selves.    Taylor can be found on her website - - where she offers 1-on-1 coaching, Full Circle (a three month masterclass), workshops, online courses, and free resources that educate and motivate others to pursue their inspired lives!
