An amazing outpouring of generosity and faith followed, with prayers coming from nationwide and even internationally. Mr. Wilson has claimed in his defense that he was using Georgia's "Stand Your Ground" laws to defend himself from racial slurs and alleged attempts to run him off of the road. Several details in this case do not hold up, including that the teen drivers of the pickup were under the influence of alcohol but were never charged, as well as the fact that Mr. Wilson's girlfriend testified that she wasn't sure if racial slurs were used and could not definitively say that they were at risk of being "run off the road".
