Revolutionising Skincare for Active Women with Jemma Salisbury
Calling our beauty lovers! Always knowing she wanted to start an eComm business, Jemma had toyed with many ideas whilst she built a successful Eyebrow Artistry business from her home.
In 2020 with the lockdowns shutting down the beauty industry – and with most of us incorporating home workouts (outside if you were lucky enough to be in Queensland!) which got her thinking of the impact on her skin that outdoor workouts were having.
After thoroughly researching the damage that exercise can have on our complexion through free radical damage and oxidative stress, Jemma sought to create a skincare regime that kept women living their most active lives without sacrificing their skin. Jemma created the first all-natural, vegan skincare range tailored specifically to an active lifestyle.
Whilst also being a mum, Jemma understands all too well the challenges of being an entrepreneur. We cover schooling, how to handle choosing a career that might not be in line with your parents vision for you and the ins and outs of developing a beauty line!

The Career Pivot That Cost Me A $50k Salary Cut
Welcome back to Beyond the Shop Floor Podcast – our final episode for the year!
What a year it has been – I want to thank you all for your support and feedback – there is a lot of work that goes into a podcast and for me this is a passion project that is all about advocating for careers in retail – This year was really all about testing the waters learning what everyone was responding to and committing to being really consistent with content.
This year has been bittersweet on a professional and personal level – I feel like so much has been accomplished - We launched a new website this week, navigated digital transformations, I am growing the team and I completed my postgraduate to certify as a Career Coach. PHEW no wonder I am feeling tired!
Of course, it hasn’t all been roses – but whatever is? Personally, it has been a challenging year for me on so many levels like it has been for most of us, with the year ending in a totally different way and different location to what I thought. This reflection got me to thinking about with everyone talking about labour shortages and the impending Great resignation – there will be a LOT of people post 2020/2021 aka dirty Rona pondering a total game changer when it comes to career. Thinking about totally hitting up the pivot can feel conflicting super exciting – but oh so scary particularly if it could mean a financial sacrifice. So today join me as I share my personal story of career pivots and evolution – one that saw me take a $50k salary cut to do it, whether I have any regrets and the biggest lessons I learnt along the way.
Tune in for one last time in 2021 – and I will see you beautiful people back here for a bright new year around the corner! Stay safe and happy holidays!

Spoilt For Choice - How to Choose from Multiple Job Offers
Welcome back to Beyond the Shop Floor Podcast – Episode 21 is HERE.
You have heard all the chat about the Great Resignation – I hope otherwise where have you been?? But something more pressing that is creating a very challenging market right now is the low levels of resignations and applications that the Australian market is facing right now. Low levels of global mobility, the C word, and a few other crap political things are making this the tightest market we have seen possibly ever. The good news? This is the PERFECT market to leverage if you aren’t where you want to be.
SO A QUICK NOTE TO YOU – go check your LinkedIn DM’s cause I guarantee people are sliding in there! And if they aren’t? Then your profile needs a review girls and boys cause people can’t find you! In which case you also need to come see me! Hehe!
So the likelihood of you handling multiple job offers is increasing right now. So how do you decide which role is for you? What things do you need to consider? How long is it acceptable to make a company wait while you consider which offer you want to accept? We cover all this and more in this weeks episode of Beyond the Shop Floor!

Nail Your Interview
Welcome back to episode 19 of Beyond the Shop Floor podcast.
If you have ever wondered why you are being asked those competency based questions...
What are you looking for? Tell me about yourself? This is the ONE for you!
Possibly one of the most common complaints I hear from candidates, friends, private career coaching clients and the whole world – is how excruciating they find interviews. No matter how much of a bad ass professional they might be – pop them in an interview and all those carefully curated answers disappear from their head.
First of all – there are a whole heap of truth bombs that I introduce you to during interview coaching. The first being its NEVER as bad as you think it is!
Secondly – yep, like all things that our mums told us that is annoyingly true – practise does indeed make perfect(ly impressive)
Third and most important – an interview my loves is a TWO WAY STREET! Its not all about whether they love you – do YOU love them? When we get too wrapped up in trying to be the perfect example of whatever you have perceived they are looking for – you miss the opportunity to observe the interaction, ask crucial questions and decide if it’s a love affair worth investing 40 hours a week in!
As always tune in, tell us your thoughts, and if you love the content please leave us a review or share the pod – we love the love!

The Paradox of Proactive vs Reactive Job Search & Why Networking on LinkedIn Hasn't Got You a Job YET!
Episode 18 is here and we are FAST counting down to the end of the year!
Our great friend Naishadh Gadani - hosts a LinkedIn Live every week and is famous for his infographics - he posted one last week about this very paradox. How Talent Acquisition teams start at the bottom of the paradox with proactive activity first and then leading all the way to reactive activity. Job seekers though? They have typically engaged when they need something ie a job and start with reactive activity first before building up to the proactive activity.
We know that the PROACTIVE actions are going to:
- ensure you stand out from the crowd
- possibly get you a quicker answer than you would through reactive channels
- build your network and strengthen relationships - the flow-on effects of which are immeasurable!
Do you feel like I bang on about the results and capability of networking on LinkedIn? Tis my favourite platform of course and its the BEST way to connect! Tune in get inspired - tell us your thoughts and we shall see you next week for our next guest pod!
Internal Retail Recruitment Looks Like This: In Conversation with Group Recruitment Manager at the Accent Group, Jaime Tsimiklis

We ask the big questions: What does a day or week look like for an internal recruitment team? What are the biggest challenges?
What background is suited to internal recruitment? Should you reach out post-interview to an Internal Recruitment team?
And the big one - yay or nay to proactive reach outs to Talent Acquisition teams? What kind of resume is best? How long should I wait for feedback?
This is the one team - tune in to this weeks episode of Beyond the Shop Floor Podcast!
How Do I Get Unstuck?
Hey ladies and gents – welcome back to Beyond the Shop Floor podcast. What happens when you are feeling stuck? If you are anything like me gratitude diaries only get you so far. You want action, positive reinforcement and to know you are on the “right path”. What if we could apply the same principles we use to design products, services and business to our own lives? What if we could unite intention with serendipity? What if we could explore the possibilities of our desirable futures? Enter Odyssey Plans.
If you've never heard the term before, an Odyssey Plan is a brainstorm about how you would like your life to look in the future. Flash-forward five years from now and come up with elements that make up the version of you that's “living your best life.” Focusing on specific areas, such as work, fun, love, and health – the concept was created by Bill Burnett and Dave Evans (Authors of my favourite book Designing your life cause yup Its true your life doesn’t just happen to you!)
I found this exercise really insightful when approaching the big “what shall I do next?” question. Fundamentally, it made me consider the longevity of my career plans and decisions, and play the long game with this career malarkey, thinking about my ultimate goals and lifestyle aims and think about possibilities rather than current actualities. It also forced me to consider alternative realities and let go of things having to be a certain way in order to achieve happiness or success (whatever that means).
Handy wee links are below - tune in to this weeks episode!
