Why This Retired Army Sergeant Pulled Her Children Out of Their Hollywood Acting Careers and Moved to Ghana
In episode 21, of Black Broads Abroad I interview, Tiffany Clark. Tiffany aka Yaa ahgee-mahn Opambour, Ohenee’ Yere’, is a retired disabled war veteran, that materialized her goal of leaving the “United” States in 2019. Born and raised in So Cal, she joined the Army at the age of 18, where she quickly found herself in a Warzone in 2003, at the tender age of 19. Having realized the true motives of the war and what America was all about, as well as suffering injury and disease, she devised a plan to live the rest of her life doing as she pleased and working for no one, ever again.
Tiffany found a way to retire at the age of 31, with a pension and benefits for the rest of her life. During the time she spent decompressing from the stresses of military life: the overt and covert racism, the physical demands and constant stress, she realized that America had taken her youth and the most of her , but she wanted to move to the motherland and give the best of her. She pulled her children out of their successful acting careers, left therapy, moved to Hawaii for 2 years and went to University. However, she could not settle and knew she had to get out. Having visited Ghana in November of 2018, she met her King (literally), built her first home, packed herself and her children up and moved in April of 2019.
Once called a Nigger while in Iraq, fighting for a country that did not want her, risking her life for a lie, passed up for promotions, over worked and under-appreciated, she is now called “Queen,” “Nana Yere,” and “Ohene Yere.”She has a name with meaning (Yaa- mother of the earth, Agyemang- Saver of a Nation, Opambour- mender of broken stones) She lives a life of doing as she pleases, when she pleases, she has help readily available. She is building another home (of her 12-year-old son’s design), building a school, and building a community… amongst other things. Tiffany has a lot of goals that she will reach while she is in Ghana. Her main one was true freedom (Not America’s B.S. illusion of it). She is close to realizing that. Her next are building a bridge between the diaspora and the continent, writing a few books and helping locals get back to self-sufficiency.

What Motivated This Founder to Leave California For Amsterdam to Trace Her Family Roots
In episode 14, I interview Jennifer Tosch, a Surinamese American, scholar, historian and founder of Black Heritage Tours. A Norhtern California native, Jennifer currently resides in Amsterdam, but spent her formative years in Oakland and San Francisco California before going on to earn a degree at UC Berkeley.
Jennifer first came to Amsterdam for an intensive two-week postcolonial history course, given by the Black Europe Summer School (BESS) in the Netherlands and to explore the world in which her mother lived, as she had also lived and studied in the Netherlands for several years just after World War II. The inspiration behind Black Heritage Tours came not only from the transformative experience she had as a student of the Black Europe Summer School, but also from a void that she encountered regarding positive narratives about the presence and contributions of the African Diaspora in the Netherlands. Jennifer knew that she could contribute her share to the process of unearthing the lives of our hidden histories in Europe and in 2013 Black Heritage Tours in Amsterdam was born.
The company has built a sustainable business by collaborating with an awesome team of scholars, historians, public officials, businesses, and heritage tourism professionals.

How This 3X Expat Pioneered the Black Millennial Travel Movement
In episode 11 of 'Black Broads Abroad' I interview Evita Turqoise Robinson. Evita has always been a creator in visual media. Yet, it was a trip to Paris, six weeks after graduating from Iona College, that changed the scope of her personal and professional life.
In September 2011, she created the NOMADNESS Travel Tribe, an online social community primarily for travelers of color. NOMADNESS was the first of its kind targeting black and brown millennials, in the newly coined 'black travel movement'. The group currently surpasses 23,000 international members, with over 100,000 passport stamps.
From the success of the online group, Evita has garnered partnerships with top brands and destinations around the world. This also includes Issa Rae, who Co- Executive Produces The NOMADNESS Project web series on YouTube.
In 2018, NOMADNESS Travel Tribe hosted their first festival for Black and Brown travelers and our allies, in Oakland, CA. AUDACITY Fest is an immersive experience that celebrates and creates a safe space for discussions centered around traveling the world as a person of color.
Continuing to innovate the travel space has landed NOMADNESS in the print and digital pages of The New York Times, Travel + Leisure, Entrepreneur, The Daily Beast, EBONY, ESSENCE, and many more.
Evita’s accolades include National Geographic’s 21 Most Visionary Women Throughout Travel History, 2018’s AFAR Travel Vanguard Award, The Root 100, and being noted as one of Entrepreneur Magazine’s 50 Most Daring Entrepreneurs of 2018. She is also an appointed Board Member of Conde Nast Traveler’s ‘Women Who Travel’ initiative.
She now serves as a keynote/seminar speaker, TED Resident, consultant for Destination Marketing Organizations, and continues her love of seeing the world while writing her first book and developing her own travel television series.
