Domestic Abuse
During this episode our law student volunteers provide some context to the current legal position on Domestic Abuse in the UK, definitions, and some activities that you can replicate in the classroom to aid discussion about this topic with your pupils e.g. myth busting true or false game, and some scenarios.

Discrimination
In today's episode we explore the legal protection provided by the Equality Act 2010 against discrimination in different settings (such as schools, in employment, and when using public transport). Our presenters explain what characteristics (such as age and gender) are protected and the 4 main types of discrimination. Case studies are provided which can be used in the classroom to aid discussion. Our presenters will be providing ideas about activities you could use in the classroom to explore the topic of discrimination, and information about where a student can seek help if they have experienced discrimination.

The Legal Status of Marriage
The legal status of marriage now forms part of the SRE syllabus for 11 - 16 year olds. In this episode of Sex, Laws and Audiotapes we explain what marriage is, discussion reasons why people may choose to get married (or not), what makes a marriage ceremony legally valid, restrictions on who can get married and what happens when a couple no longer wish to be married. As usual, we will provide some suggested classroom activities to help you deliver this topic during lesson time.

Hate Crime
This week's episode focusses on the law relating to Hate Crime, particularly in relation to race, religion, sexual orientation and disability. It was recorded in late June 2021. The recent racist online abuse received by members of the England football team following the Euro 2021 final has highlighted the continuing need for hate crime to be tackled in this country. The presenters will provide a legal definition of hate crime, refer to case law examples and fictional scenarios that can be discussed in the classroom, and will signpost listeners to further sources of help including where hate crime can be reported.

Bonus episode: Domestic Abuse - interview with Jess Phillips MP
Domestic Abuse is listed as a topic to be taught to 11 - 16 year olds in the new SRE syllabus. In this very special episode of the podcast, we are joined by Jess Phillips, Labour MP for Birmingham Yardley and Shadow Minister for Domestic Violence and Safeguarding. We will be talking to Jess about her career, the Domestic Abuse Act and the role that teachers and education plays in addressing the issue of domestic abuse. A complimentary episode on the laws relating to Domestic Abuse and suggested classroom activities is in the pipeline.
