'I would go swimming every Wednesday after school' - did you know that in this sentence 'would' doesn't mean 'gostaria'? Well, that's a more advanced use of the modal verb would, and that is exactly what we are going to learn in today's episode.

As usual, you will hear a story that contains the grammar point that we want to learn so you can grasp its meaning naturally and in context.

This new type of episode will present stories that contain grammar points of the English language, with the aim to help you learn grammar in a natural and contextualized way. Whenever you listen to one of the stories, you will notice a certain grammar point revolving around it and that's where we hope you will be able to internalize it better. 

Because I believe when it comes to langauge, this saying is true: 'Water dropping day by day wears the hardest rock away'. 

Practice makes perfect, and repetition is the key to fluency.

In today's episode you will listen to a conversation that I had with my Indian friend Sandeep Lokala. Sandeep was born in the city of Hyderabad in the south of India and he imigrated to the United States in 2007. Sandeep speaks amazing English - but with an Indian accent.

I invited him to share his perspectives on the matter of losing your accent because, just as me, he also doesn't believe you need to lose you accent when you speak a foreign language - that's why I thought he could be of great contribution with his personal experiences and points of view.

Your accent is part of your identity. It's part of who you are and it tells where you come from. Unless you start learning a foreign language at the very early stages of your life, you will most likely have an accent forever - and that is totally okay.

FOMO: Fear of Missing Out is the feeling or perception that others are having more fun or experiencing better things than you are. FOMO is triggered by social media and it causes anxiety and a deep feeling of unsatisfaction. But what does that have to do with language learning?
In this episode I establish a connection between this social phenomenon and the language learning process and I give you tips on how to avoid the negative effects of FOMO.

Throughout these 16 years of being a language learner and teacher, I have noticed a very common pattern that repeats itself among some students: they start off the journey of language learning feeling excited and motivated, then after a couple of months (sometimes even weeks!) they start losing their motivation and before they know it, they give up learning the language.

That's why I decided to talk about this matter and shed some light on it, hoping that my words could help somebody not to give up language learning. The reason is because I would like everyone to feel the same joy and satisfaction I feel when I'm able to understand and communicate in a foreign language I never thought I could. And that feeling comes after a lot of dedication, consistency and by not giving up.

In the first episode of my podcast you will learn some habits that polyglot tend to have - myself included. Polyglots are just normal people like you, except that we live this particularly interesting lifestyle where we include the target language in our lives. We LIVE the language.
