We keep a lot of things in our heads, but we put less down on paper. 

All those thoughts and ideas bouncing around can sometimes feel overwhelming. 

You have to-do lists, hopes, dreams, secrets, failures, love, loss, ups and downs. Ideas come and go, feelings pass. 

How do you remember all of them? How do you keep them organized? 

A great way to keep your thoughts organised and clear your mind is to write them down in a journal.

Learn to Respond, Not React

The truth is, we often react without thinking. It’s a gut reaction, often based on fear and insecurities, and it’s not the most rational or appropriate way to act. Responding, on the other hand, is taking the situation in, and deciding the best course of action based on values such as reason, compassion, cooperation, etc.

Let’s take a quick example:

  1. React: Your child breaks something. You immediately react by getting angry, perhaps yelling, upsetting the child and yourself, worsening your relationship, not making anything better.
  2. Respond: Your child breaks something. You notice your anger reaction, but pause, take a breath, and consider the situation. First response is to see if your child is OK — is she hurt, scared? Second, realize that the object that is broken, in the larger view, is not that important. Let it go, adjust to a world without it. Third, help her clean up, make a game of it, show her that mistakes happen and that it’s not something to dwell on. Fourth, calmly talk about how to avoid mistakes like that in the future, and give her a hug.

Angry, stressed, frustrated don't react ............. take 15 secs pause .............now reply   .this magical exercise will help you take charge of any situation.

1. Important thing to remember about the rule is, it states the imbalance and it could be any ratio. You might find it as 60/3 if 60% of results are caused by just 3% of total efforts.   


2. As mentioned in point #1, application of this rule is not totally mathematical. We have limited time and its not possible to complete every task that we have on our plate. So, using this rule, you can pick top 20% tasks that produce the most results and later spend remaining time on less productive 80%.   


3. When I talk about this rule to my friends, they often tell me that they can’t ignore any task just because its less important, everything needs to be done. I totally agree but I’m suggesting to stop reading mails just because you spend lot of time on it. Time is a valuable resource & your goal should be to optimise it. So, if Sales meetings aren’t contributing much to sales, have shorter meetings.
