Episode 006: Genesis 18:16-33 A Lesson in Justice and Mercy

INTRODUCTION: Welcome back to another week in Breaking Through the White Noise podcast, where we are in episode six. Let’s quickly retrace somethings from last time, ok? In the previous episode, we discussed how God and two angels come to Abraham and once more gave the promise of an heir to him and Sarah. God restates this to Abraham with Sarah listening, that in a year’s time they will give birth to the offspring He has been promising them for years. Nowe, we are going to be picking up in the second half of this amazing chapter. Again, we are looking at the purpose of Genesis, as a whole, along with the narrative of Abraham’s story. Moses, again the author of Genesis, has shown that his themes for this book are promises, blessings, and redemption. Here, in this last half of chapter 18, we can see how this subplot of Abraham’s narrative meets the overall themes of the Book of Genesis. We are going to explore the understanding of God’s justice and His mercy. We are going to see how God’s justice and mercy fit in with His plan to bless Abraham and to redeem His creation. CONCLUSION God showed up before Abraham to reveal something very important. God has kept His promises and still blesses, sometimes even when we shouldn’t be. God used this moment with Abraham to teach him about who He is and how to live as God desires him to. God showed Abraham the meaning of living in righteousness and being just. God expected Abraham to live this way. God expected Abraham to share this with his family, expecting them to do the same on down. Friends, this same lesson is in front of us. We saw that we are commanded to live righteously, to love mercy, and to be just. So, let me ask you, what will you do after hearing this? Reference List Bruckner, J.
