Limitless Duty

Limitless Duty

By Brian Auker

This is my first attempt at a podcast. I’m doing my patriotic duty to fight COVID-19 by losing my job and staying at home, washing my hands as much as reasonably possible. I promise I’ll talk at some point

Hilarity Ensues.

Hilarity Ensues.

Interview from “Fox and Fiends” (incorrect spelling on purpose) plays in the background while my father, who had two massive strokes, talks in the foreground. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Just Piano.

Just Piano.

Piano. Improved improvisation. Also, my mom says something at the end. 🤷🏼‍♂️

My apologies for the rambling.

My apologies for the rambling.

In which my father and I talk about how his stroke affects him, and how I don’t think it’s safe for him to drive a car after running into something today.

Political analysis. 🤷🏼‍♂️ not really. Just more random tangents.

Political analysis. 🤷🏼‍♂️ not really. Just more random tangents.

My dad had a stroke in 2011. He repeats himself constantly. Occasionally a new memory surfaces, and I’m trying to capture as much as I can while he’s still somewhat lucid.

2020 Vice Presidential Debate - with my dad.

2020 Vice Presidential Debate - with my dad.

The 2020 election is the most important of our lives. The choice is between a rapid descent into fascism and crony corruption or Joe Biden. I mean, come the fuck on! Nobody is excitin’ for Biden, or whatever dumb slogan they have this week. The only reason you have to support Trump is if you’re worth hundreds of millions of dollars and you don’t believe in paying taxes or if you own a huge company and you want easier ways to dump toxins into our waterways or if you’re just a dumb as fuck backwoods (or Main Street) racist and you think the Blacks and Mexicans have started getting uppity and you’re sick and tired of heterosexual white Christians being persecuted. If you chose the last one, congratulations, you’re a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad person. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Long, strange conversation with my father who had a stroke 9 years ago.

Long, strange conversation with my father who had a stroke 9 years ago.

My father talks and talks. He repeats all of these things every day at least a hundred times each.

The Sheer Banality of Evil.

The Sheer Banality of Evil.

My first with original words. I was almost done recording this when news of Ruth Bader Ginsberg’s death hit me like a freight train. Please excuse the shakiness of my voice, as I was literally fighting back tears.

Fast Food, Artificial Flavors and Radio Makes “Fetch Happen.”

Fast Food, Artificial Flavors and Radio Makes “Fetch Happen.”

🥁I made the music with Garage Band and my tiny 25-note keyboard. 🎹 The section of Fast Food Nation was chosen completely at random to test my audio quality. If you haven’t read it, do your self a favor and get a copy! Thanks!

Walls and Bridges.

Walls and Bridges.

Layers of GarageBand. Single passage chosen at random from “Watchmen.” Definitely more experimental than anything I’ve written/played in a while. 🤘🏼🤷🏼‍♂️❤️

Smells Like Quarantine Spirit

Smells Like Quarantine Spirit

I’ve finally figured out to record and mix my voice with the audio from the “music” I make on an old laptop, with GarageBand and a tiny little 25 note keyboard. I’m working on writing some concise content that I’ll add that week. I just don’t want to have my first actual speaking podcast consist of me saying “So... not sure what to say.”

I always start every novel I write by painting the cover art first. Doesn’t everyone?
