Food for Thought: Our full interview with Chef, Shelley Chapman
We thought this episode would be great for the holiday season. Shelley discusses how to balance mindful eating, and enjoy the holiday food without all of the guilt and overindulgence. We also know this holiday may not be the same as it has been in years past for many of our listeners. We hope this episode gives you some bit of relief from the chaos and heartache of 2020.
"I’m a Compassionate Carnivore, Mindful Eater, and Conscious Chef who cooks and eats a high plant-based diet … and shares it with you.
When I’m not teaching, filming, or cooking, I’m dancing to a mix of Kompas, Salsa, Soca, Reggae, Afrobeat, and Kizomba. Eating something dope, divine, and delicious. Spending time in nature. Enjoying art. Learning a new skill.
I’m a Spelman woman, it was there that I began to explore healthier eating options and deal with my emotional eating and body issues.
I’m a Harvard graduate, it was there that I earned my Master’s in Education and decided to become an educator. After graduating, I taught Spanish for five years but the classroom wasn’t really my jam. In 2009, I found my true calling teaching in the kitchen and on camera.
What do I teach?
I teach mindful eating and plant-based nutrition.
While I won’t condemn bacon nor ice-cream, I will share the consequences of eating them and provide you with a delicious alternative.
I teach people how to eat a satisfying and nourishing plant-based diet on my YouTube Channel.
When it comes to making changes to your diet, medical warnings aren’t always enough. Sometimes you just need that perfect plant-based substitute for cheese or some other ingredient before you make the commitment. I got you.
I teach you how to lose weight without the gym, instead of working out, we work in.
I went from a size 12 to a size 2 in one year. When it comes to changing your habits and bettering your health, you have to get rid of the toxins and junk. In my workshops, you learn how to get rid of toxic food, behaviors, thoughts, actions, and relationships for a total shift in wellness and health."

“I AM CREATIVE BY WAY OF THE ULTIMATE CREATOR…
therefore, my work is not merely a showcase of me playing ‘dress-up’ with a model…
what I truly desire is for my work to be a visual microphone that projects God’s truth, real experiences from real people, particularly African Americans and people of color.
I have a responsibility with my talent and craft to use it to heal, uplift, and rebuild...one project at a time.”

Stay Black (interview with Hair Stylist, Mohan Jean Mary)
In this episode, we discuss how FOXSoul filled the talk show void with a new show from Jay Jeezy Jenkins. We also talk about how remakes and sequels are upsetting Nikki when the original was perfect and the delay of filming in the industry because of COVID. Our special guest is a Brooklyn based celebrity and bridal hairstylist and the owner of Modimel Salon, Modimel Brides, and NAHOM Wellness, Mohan Jean Mary. Say Her Name (interview with Elizabeth Woodson)
Nikki and Nono top the episode discussing the Emmy wins, Regina King making history, Zandaya's growth as an actor, and why Schitts Creek deserves all of those Emmys. We talk about which shows are going back into production and the Billboard Music Award nominations. Just how old is Old Town Road and why does it feel like it came out three years ago? We speak to a different kind of artist, a minister. Elizabeth Woodson joins the podcast to discuss how her ministry is art, the loud oppositional voices from the Evangelical Church, and how she navigates white spaces while being unapologetically who God created her to be, a black Christian woman with a gift for ministering to His people. We award our Broke AF and Gifted AF awards and we take an emotional peek behind the curtain to discuss the injustice of Breonna Taylor's murder. Listen, Share, and Rate us!

Petty Ghost (interview with Garlia Cornelia)
This episode is a bit late because we had some editing issues, our apologies, but we've made up for it with a great episode. We discuss the new diversity requirements for the Oscars, the end of a reality tv family empire, and if it will mark the end of reality tv as a whole, Tyler Perry joining the billionaire club and shooting 19 episodes in 4 days. How? We also come up with a new tv show concept based off of Kenya Barris's spinoff Oldish. We have an in-depth conversation with Blackboard Plays creator, featured NY Times writer, and Public Theater producer, Garlia Cornelia. She discusses motherhood, multiple streams of income, the power of her pen, and much more. We also award our BAF and GAF and take a peek behind the curtain to discuss Kenosha, Wisconsin. Blooming Abroad: Our entire interview with Nneka Osueke
We had such a great conversation with Nneka that we wanted to share the entire conversation with our listeners in a bonus episode. So here is the complete, raw, and unedited version of our interview. We hope you enjoy it!
Nneka Osueke is a visual artist, mental health advocate, an author who glides across various mediums, most notably painting and sculpture, to depict themes of African history, spirituality, Black empowerment, and the human mind. A first-generation Nigerian born and raised in Dallas, Texas, she received her Bachelor's in Fashion Merchandising from Sam Houston State University in 2013. Shortly after, Nneka moved to Los Angeles, CA to begin her career in design, but surprisingly, found herself pursuing a Master's in Clinical Psychology and her artistry full-time. Thus, she discovered the golden bridge between her purpose and her passion--merging art, African psychology, and mental health advocacy together.
Osueke has exhibited her work in Miami, Italy, Jamaica, Dallas, and Los Angeles, CA, and has presented on/participated in discussions about African Spirituality and the connections between mental health and creative expression. She currently lives and works in Ratchaburi, Thailand, where she implemented the newest chapter of her youth creative expression program, The Prodigy Vanguard. She is also the founder and host of Paint-In-Place, a weekly, virtual paint and sip class created in light of the recent pandemic, and is set to release her first book later this month entitled Blooming Abroad: The Black Girl’s Journal-Guide-Memoir for Traveling and Living in Foreign Lands.
With her sights set on opening an art gallery, creating a full-15 course International Art program in Thailand, and exhibiting new artwork both in Thailand and in the States, Nneka is intentional about using all of her gifts and strives to inspire others to do the same.
