CableCast Episode: 7 VGC CANCELLED?! Playing in a World Without Events with Collin Heier and Edu Cunha

CableCast Episode: 7 VGC CANCELLED?! Playing in a World Without Events with Collin Heier and Edu Cunha

Welcome to CableCast!

CableCast is a Pokémon VGC Podcast hosted by Caleb "Cable" Ryor whose goal is to delve deeper into the official Pokémon competitive circuit and its meta-game  by showcasing thoughts, opinions, and analysis from an always changing cast of guest VGC players.

This week Caleb is joined by a returning guest to the cast in that of Collin "BattleRoom" Heier as well as a new addition to the show and fellow Worlds semi-finalist, Edu "EmbcPT" Cunha! It has been quite a rollercoaster of a time with events being cancelled due to concerns with the current COVID-19 pandemic still ongoing and just two weeks ago we got the news that the rest of the TPCi run circuit including NAIC and WCS 2020 has been cancelled. In the wake of that however there have been a plethora of online competitions and both my guests this week have been making quite the splash over on Twitch continuing to streaming the game, so not all hope is lost for our game this year! Caleb brings upon more speculative talk (as per usual) and really gets discussion going on what to expect moving forward.  Hope you all enjoy :)

CableCast Episode: 6 Cat's Out of the Bag! OCIC Recap and Incineroar's Return

This week Caleb is joined by two new guests and more close friends from the scene (who have notably not ever lived in Texas) Tommy Cooleen and Andrew Burley! Andy did a team report video with Caleb on his Youtube channel where Tommy was unable to schedule to be at but was able to make an appearance together for this podcast episode. Coming just a week after the Oceania International Championships have completed, current state of the meta is talked about in regards to results and performances of certain teams from said tournament. Half this episode is about said teams before talk shifts to focus on the upcoming Battle Series 3 ruleset shaking up the meta with some impactful GMax forms and most notably the additions of Pokemon like Venusaur and Incineroar to the format! Hope you all enjoy :)

CableCast Episode: 5 January Recap: Bochum, Dallas, and a lot of Togekiss!

This week Caleb is joined by his first returning guest in that of Blake Hopper joined by a wonderful close friend of their's, Jake Muller from the podcast Soundproof. A lot has been going on with VGC 2020 being in full force and two record breaking regionals from Europe and North America respectively needing to be analyzed. Before talks start about how the meta has shaped up so far, discussions on the upcoming Pokemon Sword and Shield Expansion passes take place for thoughts on what they could mean for VGC going forward! Regarding January and the meta analysis given in this episode, I would think the title of the episode would key into it all well, so I don't want to spoil anything else. Give it a listen!

CableCast Episode: 4 VGC 2020 IS HERE! ft. Angel Miranda and Nick "Nails" Navarre

CableCast Episode: 4 VGC 2020 IS HERE! ft. Angel Miranda and Nick "Nails" Navarre

This week Caleb is joined by Angel Miranda and Nick "Nails" Navarre, close friends and strong VGC players with very similar Twitter profile pictures who associate with the Smogon VGC crew. With the VGC 2020 ruleset coming out the very day they were scheduled to record, all the new information flooded the cast with strong opinions on the viability of the Gigantamax Pokemon that will be legal (starting January 4th) as well as concerns over the reimplementation of an ingame timer of 15 minutes. Furthermore they discuss their thoughts on how the game has been so far with good things shared about Dynamax as far as its competitive merit and balance in the doubles format. Usage stats from the Galar Weekies hosted by @vgcstats on r/VGC prove to be an important asset to look into a window of the metagame as it develops as Caleb and the cast recommend you keep an eye of those tournaments and do your best to try one yourself! I don't want to give away too many details about what is said, so do go listen and see how these players who have been grinding since day 1 feel about the game!  Follow the host and guests on Twitter:  @CableVGC @AngelJMiranda @NailsOU  This was streamed live at twitch.tv/cablevgc Follow me there or Twitter to find out whenever I go live!  Helpful links referenced on the cast:  twitter.com/vgcstats  reddit.com/r/VGC  swordshield.pokemon.com  www.pokemon.com/us/pokemon-news/2020-pokemon-video-game-championships-vgc-format-rules/ -- Watch live at https://www.twitch.tv/cablevgc
