Pride, Bisexual Erasure, and The Harm of Queer Gatekeeping | #168
Welcome to Pride Month... or as we like to call it here, Queer Wrath Month!
This episode is for every bisexual person who has felt left out, questioned, or erased in the very spaces that are supposed to celebrate them. Caitlin is joined by Bailey Merlin—researcher, advocate, author, and co-host of the Bisexual Killjoy podcast—for a conversation about what it really means to be bi+ in a world that still struggles to make space for us.
Bailey brings her lived experience and professional insight to the mic, sharing what she’s learned from years of community building and organizing, including her work with the Bi+ Book Gang. Together, she and Caitlin explore the complicated realities of bisexual identity, from partner-gender policing and “straight-passing” myths to the constant pressure to explain yourself in both queer and straight spaces. They also touch on something deeper: how infighting and gatekeeping weaken our collective power, and how we can return to something more grounded.
If you’re bi, pan, queer in all directions, or someone who wants to do better by the bi+ community, this episode is a heartfelt invitation. Because we all deserve to be here. No gatekeeping. No paper-checking. Just more room at the table.
💬 " Queer people should just be letting queer people into queer spaces. You cannot ask somebody like for their papers. That’s cop behavior!" - Caitlin Liz Fisher
💬 "If you say bisexuality is transphobic, you're being biphobic, because it's not." - Caitlin Liz Fisher
💬 " In my research, in the interviews that I do, I'd say like 60% of people will tell me that their identity doesn't matter. Like, 'oh, it's not a big deal.' But it is! It doesn't have to be all you are, but saying that it's not a big deal makes me really sad, because it means you're like distancing yourself from a part of yourself, which is not good for your overall mental wellness." - Bailey Merlin
What We Talk About:
- The ugly rise of biphobia during Pride Month and why it hits harder online
- The ongoing pressure to "do queer correctly" and the exhaustion of having to justify your place in the community
- Why bisexuality is still misunderstood, misrepresented, and debated even within the LGBTQIA+ community
- The harm of the bi vs pan discourse, and policing queer identities
- How fascism and scarcity culture feed queer infighting (and what we should be doing instead!)

Why We’re 60 Years Behind on Queer Rights! | #167
IT’S PRIDE MONTH, and you know what that means, neurodivergent queer creatives! Time for some radical queer history. You know, the ones the school books intentionally left out.In this episode of The Neurodivergent Creative Podcast, we’re going back—like waaay back—to the early 1900s, when Dr. Magnus Hirschfeld was pioneering queer rights, trans healthcare, sex education, and radical inclusivity in Berlin... until the friggin Nazis came and burned it all down! We’re not behind on queer and trans rights by a few decades. Nope! We’re 60+ years behind where we could’ve been because fascism doesn’t just erase lives, it erases progress too.
💬"Bodies should not be legislated. Relationships should not be legislated. If we speak about unalienable rights for every human in the fucking constitution, why do we act like this?" – Caitlin Liz Fisher
This discussion isn’t just a queer history lesson—it’s a call to remember what we’ve lost, what we're still fighting for, and what it means to keep going in the face of erasure. Caitlin connects the dots from Hirschfeld to modern queer resistance, from book burnings to DEI bans... It's unfiltered real talk. It's resistance. It's ours.
In this episode, Caitlin talks about:
- The revolutionary legacy of Magnus Hirschfeld
- How queer rights, women’s rights, and trans rights are all interconnected
- The Institute for Sexual Science (and its tragic destruction by the Nazis)
- What fascism looked like then—and what it looks like now
- Why we must stop acting like LGBTQ+ oppression is a “new” problem
- The hard truth about liberal complicity and performative politics
- Rage, resistance, and reclaiming Pride with purpose

Writing with ADHD and Letting It Be Messy (with Emily Golden & Rachel May) | #166
What if there’s no “right” way to write a book? No perfect planner, no ideal routine, no craft book that finally cracks the code?
In this episode, Caitlin is joined by Rachel May and Emily Golden of Golden May Editing to talk about writing with ADHD, embracing creative discomfort, and why the mess is the magic. From late diagnoses to revising six drafts only to return to the first, this conversation is a vulnerable, hilarious, and deeply validating permission slip for anyone who’s tired of doing it “by the book.”
💬 “You can’t shame your way into self-trust. And you can’t spreadsheet your way into a sacred first draft.” — Caitlin Liz Fisher
If you've ever felt like a “bad writer” for needing breaks, changing your mind, or hating your once-brilliant plot twist—this episode is your reminder: writing isn’t about following the rules. It’s about trusting yourself.
What You’ll Learn:
- Why late-diagnosed ADHD reshaped Rachel’s approach to writing, coaching, and self-compassion
- How writing craft books often fail neurodivergent writers and why the problem isn’t you
- The myth of the perfect process and what to do when your system stops working
- Why intuition matters more than a rigid routine in writing the book only you can write
- The importance of letting yourself feel every messy, frustrating, beautiful emotion that comes with creativity

Fighting Your Brain, and Finding Your Way Back Again | #165
Your brain wants to keep you safe. Your creativity wants to set you free. And somewhere between those two is you—spiraling, second-guessing, and crying into your draft wondering if you accidentally deleted your own soul.
In this episode of The Neurodivergent Creative Podcast, Caitlin talks about what it's like when you lose your creative connection, and how to gently find your way back. Whether you’re writing a novel, launching a project, or trying something new for the first (or umpteenth) time, this is your invitation to soften into being a beginner again.
💬 “Creativity is the way that we leave a legacy of human experience. Your brain isn’t designed for that—but your spirit is. Your heart is. Your soul is.” – Caitlin Liz Fisher
In this episode, Caitlin gets real about:
- Why your brain rebels against learning new things (it’s biology, not failure)
- The existential spiral of losing connection with your own story
- People-pleasing in your creative work (even when you don’t realize it’s happening)
- The spiritual side of storytelling and reconnecting with your heart
- Creativity as legacy, not performance

When Mother's Day Is Complicated | #164
Mother’s Day can be sweet, suuuure—but for some of us, it’s complicated, loaded, or straight-up painful.
In this raw and deeply personal episode, Caitlin opens up about navigating Mother’s Day when you’re estranged from your mom or carry a tangled history of grief, hurt, or resentment. From childhood emotional neglect to hilariously petty revenge gifts, Caitlin shares stories that cut through the Hallmark noise and help us imagine a Mother’s Day that centers YOU—your healing, your boundaries, your joy.
This isn’t a how-to guide. It’s messy. It’s funny. It’s tender. It’s a reclamation of a day that doesn’t get to own you anymore, because you don’t have to perform Mother’s Day, you can reimagine it however you need to.
What You Will Learn:
The quiet trauma of growing up with angry chores and slammed cabinet doors
Why “mother knows best” can be harmful and false
How to reclaim Mother’s Day by honoring chosen family, mom-friends, or yourself
The absolute delight of doing something your mom would lowkey hate
Rituals and symbolic ways to let go, heal, and move forward
What real self-nurturing can look like on your own terms

Healing, Passwords, and the Magic of Not Forcing Growth | #163
This week, we’re going on a journey (yes, a journey!) through digital spring cleaning, quiet healing, and what it means to let go without forcing it.
From updating old passwords to deleting wedding files from Dropbox, Caitlin reflects on how real growth doesn’t come from pushing, it comes from being ready and honoring your own pace.
This episode is less “how-to” and more cozy vlog vibes... equal parts storytelling, emotional honesty, and healing metaphors (with a few spicy red flag reflections thrown in for good measure).
Think of this one as a sit-on-the-floor-with-tea kind of conversation!
Enjooooy.
In this episode, Caitlin explores:
Doing a full digital audit and the weird catharsis of deleting old accounts
The emotional wave of finding old wedding invites, and not needing to open them
How healing doesn’t happen on command
The sneaky overlap between green flags and red flags in past relationships
Why you can’t rush art, business, or recovery and what to do instead
The beauty of just being with yourself, like nature slowly waking up in spring
If you’re looking for more than just a tidy desktop—if you want a fresh start that extends beyond your screens—this episode is for you.

The Artist’s Way: The Secret to Creative Momentum | #162
Waiting for a big block of free time to finally work on that creative project? Spoiler alert: it’s not coming. And it doesn’t need to.
This week, Caitlin unpacks one of the most powerful lessons from The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron: creativity doesn’t thrive on giant, uninterrupted chunks of time—it flourishes in the small, imperfect moments we’re willing to claim for ourselves.
If you've been stuck in perfectionism, paralyzed by time blindness, or just feeling like you “never have time,” this episode is your invitation to shift perspective and find magic in the margins.
In this episode, Caitlin explores:
- The deceptively simple advice that changed her approach to creativity
- How ADHD and perfectionism distort our sense of time
- Why small creative acts matter more than perfect execution
- The joy of watching bees (yes, seriously)
- Letting go of hustle guilt and embracing imperfect progress
- How to build a mini-menu of 5, 15, and 60-minute creative activities
If you’re ready to break free from all-or-nothing thinking and start reconnecting with your creative self—one tiny moment at a time—this episode is for you.

Ambition vs Toxic Productivity: Breaking Free from Internalized Capitalism | #161
Feeling the relentless pull to work harder, do more, and prove your worth through productivity? That’s not ambition talking—it’s internalized capitalism, and it’s keeping you trapped in a cycle of overwork and burnout. This week, we’re tackling the insidious ways internalized capitalism uses toxic productivity to take advantage of us, and how we can fight back.
Ambition should empower you, not exhaust you. It’s time to call out the lies we’ve been sold about hustle culture and start reclaiming a healthier, more fulfilling drive.
In this episode, Caitlin unpacks:
- The key difference between healthy ambition and toxic productivity
- How internalized capitalism keeps you working more than you should be
- The mental toll of “doing it all” and how internalized capitalism forces you to
- Caitlin's personal experience on leaving corporate and why
- the propaganda machine against workers unionizing
- Why saying "no" is a radical act of self-care
If you’ve ever questioned the grind and wondered if it’s okay to slow down, this conversation is a must-listen.

The Mess is The Raw Material | #160
You’re gonna mess up. You’re gonna fumble. You’re gonna make choices that feel good at the time and then sit with the aftermath, wondering if you’re cut out for any of this. That doesn’t mean you suck. It means you’re human!
And with being human comes discomfort, growth, re-evaluation, hard pivots, quiet grief, and (if you’re lucky) a little clarity on the other side. Especially if you’re a neurodivergent creative trying to build a business, express yourself, or simply exist in a system that was never designed for your kind of magic.
💬 “When you make mistakes, you can choose to learn from them—or you can sit in the corner and wallow. One of those is productive. The other will make you feel like absolute shit.” - Caitlin Liz Fisher
In this episode, Caitlin gets real about:
Quitting jobs when your values get violated
Learning to say “no thanks” to unsolicited feedback
Navigating the chaos of being a beginner in life, art, and entrepreneurship
Why trusting yourself is the secret sauce
Letting your routines, offers, and creative work evolve with you
Your mess isn’t a character flaw—it’s proof you’re in motion. It’s the raw material of becoming, and yes, that's art.

The Sacred First Draft: You, Your Story, and the Divine Mess | #159
If you’ve been spiraling about your first draft or sitting in front of a blinking cursor like it's judging you… This episode is your big reminder to let your first draft be as messy, weird, lumpy, and unhinged as it needs to be.
The first draft isn’t about perfection, it’s about aliveness. It’s the start of a relationship, where you and your story are just getting to know each other. You’re learning its voice, its shape, and its secret little quirks. It is awkward, but intimate and sacred. It is the spiritual bond between you, believing in your story, and the STORY THAT CHOSE YOU to write it!
💬 “You can’t revise a story that doesn’t exist. And you’re never going to get it right on the first try.”
💬 “The first draft is for you and the story to get to know each other, to build trust.”

It's Not (Just) Them vs Us—It's the System | #158
Let’s talk about how personal growth, education, and the rise of fascism are connected (yeah, we’re going there today).
In this episode, Caitlin unpacks why so many people seem willfully ignorant—and how that ignorance is actually by design. We explore the gut-punch reality of America’s education system, from the purposeful defunding of public schools to redlining, racist discipline policies, and why 57% of U.S. adults are considered partially illiterate. (Spoiler: it’s not their fault.)
This one’s full of big feelings, nuanced rage, and deep compassion—for everyone trying to make sense of why the world feels so heavy right now.
💬 “We can be mad at them for voting for people who want to take away our rights, but they don’t understand they’re hurting people. They think they’re protecting themselves, and that’s because of the systems. When we take action, it needs to be against those systems—because it’s nearly impossible to change a mind that’s been brainwashed this hard.” - Caitlin Liz Fisher
Let’s talk about Systems Behind the Misinformation:
The connection between literacy, voting patterns, and systemic oppression
Why yelling at individual people isn’t the revolution (even if it feels satisfying)
How white supremacy and capitalism are baked into our school systems
The real reason anti-trans hate is spreading—and how undereducation fuels it
And why we have to aim our anger at systems, not just individuals

Messy, Human, and Healing: Navigating Trauma & Relationships | #157
March is a weird one. It’s the start of spring, a time for new beginnings, but for host Caitlin Fisher, it’s also a heavy traumaversary—marking seven years since leaving an abusive relationship. In this episode, Caitlin unpacks what healing looks like (spoiler: it’s pretty messy), how trauma responses sneak into even the most mundane moments, and what it’s like to be in a healthy relationship while still unlearning old survival patterns.
TL;DR: Expect deep feels, a little self-compassion pep talk, and maybe even a “Wow, I thought it was just me” moment!
💬 “Be a mess because people who really love and respect you want you to be a human person—which means being a mess. You cannot remove mess and messiness from the human experience. You just need somebody who, when your soil is dry, will water it for you because they want you to thrive. ” - Caitlin Liz Fisher
Let’s talk about Breaking the Binary Mentality in Relationships:
How seasonal shifts can shake up your mental health
Why The Body Keeps the Score is basically a trauma bible
Learning to navigate emotions with DBT skills
The way past trauma shows up in present relationships (yep, even at the grocery store)
Sitting with discomfort, embracing the gray areas, and giving yourself grace to feel it all
Big Takeaway:
You don’t need to be "healed" to be loved. You just need people who will sit with you in the mess and love you through it.

The Messy Middle of Bravery and Why We Still Choose to Be Brave Anyway | #156
Being brave means taking a risk. It’s choosing to stand up for something, even if it could result in a loss, because there’s this hope that goodness will always prevail. Movies and media often portray bravery as a single, defining moment, but life rarely ever works that way. Being brave looks like a no-brainer. Main characters do it all the time. Like, they just know! It’s always shown as this big, bright feeling, and they arrive at just the right time to do the right thing, and everybody cheers, AND nothing bad happens after. Good kicks evil in the butt. YAY, roll the credits!!But reality is quite different. If you piss off the perpetrator of these oppressive systems, there’s almost always going to be major consequences for standing up, speaking out, and taking action. It sucks that we can’t be brave all the time. And really, we shouldn’t have to. Bravery comes at a cost, and no one person should be paying for all of it. We were meant to be brave together because it’s a helluva lot easier to be brave when the responsibility is shared—when you have community. Tune in to this episode, as Caitlin Liz Fisher unpacks the messy parts that don’t get talked about enough in the story but matter just as much. What happens after the big, brave moment? And what can we do to continue making brave choices and taking brave actions? Let’s find out together!
Let’s talk about What Makes Being Brave Possible:
Why bravery always involves risk—and why that risk is essential for real courage to exist
How movies and books give us a narrow view of bravery vs what real-life courage looks like
Why having a community makes it easier to be brave and how to find people who will support you
Why quiet, everyday acts of courage matter just as much as bold, public ones

Queer & Neurodivergent in 2025: Survive Out of Spite, Live Out of Love | #155
Existing feels like an act of rebellion, especially at a time when leaders meant to protect us just straight up make it their friggin business to undermine, dismiss, and erase our lived experience.
In this episode of The Neurodivergent Creative Podcast, Caitlin Liz Fisher talks about the weight of living in a world that feels like it's crumbling—while still finding ways to stay alive out of spite, out of love, and out of sheer stubbornness.
We’re talking about mental illness, the crushing grip of capitalism, and the endless political attacks on marginalized communities. But we’re also talking about joy. About all the small, tender acts of creativity and connection that keep us tethered to the world. About finding reasons—no matter how tiny—to keep going.
Because the truth is: Queerness isn’t the problem. Neurodivergence isn’t the problem. The problem is the systems built to crush us. And if those systems want us gone? Then staying alive is our resistance!
💬 “ Yes, stay alive out of spite, but you also have to remember to be alive and to live a joyful life. Because if we're just surviving, like just living another day, that's not the same as this sense of being alive and participating in our aliveness.” - Caitlin Liz Fisher
Let’s talk about Staying Alive & Embracing the Micro Actions:
Why the overwhelm you’re feeling isn’t your fault
The sneaky ways capitalism and mental illness feed off each other
How micro-moments of joy and creativity can help you reclaim your life
Why staying alive is a radical, defiant, and beautiful act
A love letter to the people who’ve made survival possible

Is Rejection Sensitivity Killing Your Creativity? | #154
It’s time to drop the mask, be gloriously human, and risk the mortifying ordeal of being known!
In this episode, your ever-so-insufferable and brilliantly passionate host, Caitlin Liz Fisher (they/them), gets raw and real about how obsessive-compulsive disorder and rejection sensitivity have impacted their creativity, why it's time to let go of perfectionism, and stop trying to be everyone’s cup of tea (unless you want to be, in which case—go ahead and pour it piping hot, sweetling!).
💬 “Some of us are still scared to cry because to cry is to risk your needs not being met, and the risk of that rejection is too much. And we don't tell people what's happening, and we don't ask for help. We don't receive support because we think we have to earn it.” - Caitlin Liz Fisher
Let’s talk about Rejection Sensitivity:
Why trying to please everyone is exhausting—and, if we're being honest, highly overrated!
Why Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria sucks and how to stop it from backseat driving your creative journey
Turning off the 'Good Person Matrix' and living your life uncensored
The joy of being seen (yes, even if it feels a little awkward sometimes!)

Managing Scrupulosity: OCD Is Not Just Washing Your Hands | #153
This is a real one from Caitlin–not that all the episodes that came before weren’t “real,” but after realizing they have OCD, Caitlin is on a journey of self-discovery and breaking the fourth wall of their brain in previously unknown and unimagined ways. This episode is very raw and real and has a lot of crying.
💬 “I thought that OCD was for germs. And OCD was for straight lines. This is straight lines. This is the straight lines of my behavior.” - Caitlin Liz Fisher
When their blog post The Gaslighting of the Millennial Generation went viral in 2016, Caitlin started building a matrix of rules that would keep them safe in this new, visible space. It affected the way they wrote their book. It has affected the way they’ve run their business. And it’s finally out in the open.
Let’s talk about OCD:
Scrupulosity OCD is a subtype of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder with extreme obsession about sinful or immoral thoughts and actions.
Having standards and ethics is, of course, a good thing… but it can become disordered when you start Never Doing Anything that isn’t clearly defined as a “good” thing.
OCD isn’t always about hand washing and germs–in the case of Scrupulosity, the obsessions and compulsions stem from the idea of one’s spiritual Goodness.

Why you should prioritize your well-being and celebrate in a way that feels comfortable
Tips for advocating for your children’s sensory needs and navigating family expectations
Simple, self-care tips to help you handle the seasonal gloom and stay connected to your needs
Episode Wisdom Nuggies:
💬 “Communicating to people, when their sort of neurotypical host mode starts overriding your personal autonomy, you're going to need to remind them of things like, Hey, please do not force my kids to hug or kiss you. Don't force people to eat or drink something. It's super annoying. When somebody says no, and then you like keep trying to get them to do a thing. Just, just listen to people, just respect people, just accommodate people's wishes. Like, it's not hard.” - Caitlin Liz Fisher
💬 “Maybe don't comment on how much people are eating. Trust them to fill themselves appropriately with food.” - Caitlin Liz Fisher

How to Navigate Life As A Traumatized Neurodivergent Creative | #149
Today’s episode is a raw, real conversation about living with trauma and trying to find peace in a world that feels like it’s on fire. We’re talking about everything from the relentless news cycle to the collective trauma of COVID, and the deep weariness many of us feel just trying to stay informed.
Caitlin Liz Fisher takes us on a journey through their personal experiences with anxiety, depression, chronic illness, and trauma. They talk about grief—the grief of knowing things could have been different, and how hard it is to carry these things alone. And, they reveal what it's like to live with a “one-two punch” of mental health struggles.
The silver lining of this episode: navigating relationships post-trauma, healing, and receiving the love we deserve. Many of us know how weird and even uncomfortable it can feel to have a “healthy” interaction if we’ve been through abusive relationships. Caitlin shares what it’s like to learn to trust and accept love again (especially when it feels so weird at first).
So, whether you’re looking for comfort, understanding, or a new perspective on life after trauma, this conversation offers a gentle reminder: you don’t have to carry it all alone. Listen in and take a step towards the love and peace you deserve! 💜
You Will Learn:
how the trauma from world events like COVID, war, and the constant barrage of awful news can deeply affect our mental health
the grief that comes from knowing things could have been different, and how to process this grief without carrying it alone
the challenges of learning to trust again and accept love, especially after experiencing unhealthy relationships
navigating the healing journey and stepping into the peace and love we all deserve
Episode Wisdom Nuggies:
💬 "And an abusive relationship will feel like love because that is how you were raised, or that is what your formative relationships were like. That comfort does not mean it is healthy. And the discomfort of having a healthy discussion and a conflict that ends and you're like, well, that's not healthy.
That wasn't what I expected. I'm not sure how to handle this. That discomfort can mean, oh, that is how a conflict is supposed to go between two human beings who respect each other and care. Why hasn't that been easy before?” - Caitlin Liz Fisher

Trust Yourself, You’ve Got Great Ideas! | #148
AI is just popping up everywhere, huh? It’s on our Pinterest, our cars, our little Bluetooth speakers… helping us ‘do things efficiently.’ Sure it feels futuristic, very Wall-E, and if you’ve seen that movie, you would know that it is actually quite concerning. Our reliance on AI to do things for us? Housework, yeah, that seems useful, but using AI to give us ideas? Mmm… kinda sketchy especially when you acknowledge the fact that technology DOES NOT actually come up with original ideas on its own, it's just making idea soup from other creative humans' hard work.
And we’re not sure if you know this, but YOU have amazing ideas. Your brain is capable of coming up with really juicy ideas if you just let it! Will it require offerings and a cozy spot? Probably. Will it demand little snackies and/or naps at the most inopportune times? Highly likely. But it’s okay to take your time and allow yourself to be creative, instead of relying on AI to do everything for you.
Humans being creative vs AI ‘being creative’ are not the same thing, so let’s reflect on that. Why should we trust AI to ideate for us, more than we ever trust ourselves to create something that will connect authentically?’
Kicking the hornet nest again in this episode, Caitlin talks about the value of leaning into your own voice and ideas, how to trust your creativity especially when you feel sucked into the content production grind, and why using Copy Improv to shift your marketing perspective to focus on building joyful human connections.
So, if you’re feeling sick and tired of seeing ‘this is how I 10x-ed my business using AI’ braggy blog posts, and want more ‘I built this community because other humans see the human in me and we vibe each other,’ this one’s for you!
You Will Learn:
Why you should trust your creative brain more than generative AI
The price we pay for relying too much on AI’s efficiency
How Copy Improv can amplify your voice so that marketing doesn’t have to feel like regurgitated ChatGPT pishposh

Rest vs Productivity: Debunking the Capitalist Myth | #135
Do you ALWAYS need to be doing something productive to justify your existence on this earth? Does taking a break make you feel like you’ve committed an atrocious crime? Yeah, about that… consider this an intervention!
In our busy world, there's a lot of pressure to always be productive. We've started saying things like "rest is productive" because we know we need rest to be more efficient. But does rest always have to be about giving yourself that wee bit of breathing room to make yourself more productive later? OR, hear us out, can rest just be... REST? 🥺
Join us and let’s have a conversation about the pressures society puts on us to always be busy, internalizing our worth based on our output, and how we can push back against that. Plus, since July is Disability Pride Month, we'll discuss how rest and productivity relate to disability and the extra challenges faced by disabled individuals.
You Will Learn:
- Why rest is essential for both mental and physical health
- How to balance work, life, play, and rest for overall well-being
- The societal pressures around constant productivity and how to resist them
- The unique challenges faced by disabled individuals in the workplace
- The importance of valuing people for who they are, not just what they do
Episode Wisdom Nuggies:
💬 “Let's not shame people for rest and not shame ourselves for rest because yes, rest is productive, but rest is not obligated to be productive. Rest is obligated to be rest.” - Caitlin Liz Fisher
💬 “Every single human person has value and worth that is beyond what their labor can provide.” - Caitlin Liz Fisher
💬 “We live in a system that expects our labor and that continues to extract more and more and more of our labor without any return. And meanwhile, we are all getting fed propaganda about who deserves what, and who's at fault for the hardships in your particular life.” - Caitlin Liz Fisher

You Are Allowed To Change Over Time | #129
“Change is inevitable,” they say, but it’s really one of those easier-said-than-done kind of deals. Sometimes you get the exciting change, sometimes you get the heartbreaking ones, and sometimes you are dealt with those that leave you feeling meh. So, let’s talk about it! Let’s talk about why you are 100% allowed to change over time and advocate for your own character development. In this episode, Caitlin Liz Fisher opens up about their own experiences with change, from navigating the depths of depression to rediscovering their true passions and purpose. Caitlin reminds us that we don't have to follow a predetermined script – we're allowed to forge our own paths, make mistakes, and start over whenever we need to.
You Will Learn:
The importance of advocating for your mental health and trying different medications if necessary.
The benefits of maintaining consistent self-care routines, such as journaling and spiritual practices, and how these can impact your well-being.
Why it’s never too late to start over and pursue new passions or paths, regardless of age or past experiences.
Understanding and navigating the dangers of self-judgment and the importance of reconnecting with your values and purpose.
Episode Wisdom Nuggies:
💬 "Even what you really deeply want is allowed to change over time, because you are allowed to change over time."
💬 “And so many societal expectations stop us from deciding that we can do something different, and that we can go off the script handed to us.
💬 “There is not just one opportunity to try and then stick the landing. You can do new things or old things or whatever thing you want. Basically whenever you want to! And believing that it’s available to you is the first step.”
💬 “If I can be that patient with plants. Can I be that patient? Can I be that patient with myself?“
💬 “You can start over at any time. You can replant yourself. You can do it. Okay? I love you. And there's nothing you can do about it!”

FOREVER is not equal to SUCCESS | #127
In today’s episode, Caitlin dives deep into the myth of "forever" as a measure of success, encouraging us to embrace change and pivot when necessary. Caitlin's candid sharing inspires a movement towards self-love and understanding that allows room for change and growth. Join the conversation on how to celebrate life's transient phases and liberate yourself from the weight of "forever."
You Will Learn:
Understanding why not all aspects of life are meant to last forever and why that's okay.
How repairing your relationship with yourself can redefine your interactions and expectations with the outer world.
How changes and endings aren't failures but part of a natural and healthy journey of self-discovery and growth.
Episode Wisdom Nuggies:
💬 " Fixing the relationship that you have with yourself will fix how you allow those outside influences to treat you. Not fix, per se, but shift. You need to get so clear on what it means to love yourself that when other people are doing it wrong, you know it.”
💬 "The idealization of something lasting for the rest of your life as the marker of success can be really harmful.”
💬 “How am I supposed to stay forever where I'm not being appreciated? That's not how that works. The only thing in my life that lasts forever is my relationship with myself. And so, like, that's my top priority is my relationship with me.”

Episode Wisdom Nuggies:
💬 "I haven't been as creative because my table for creativity is covered in stuff that I need to deal with. That would probably take me 10 minutes to deal with. Maybe I'll do that after this episode. Wish me luck! If in the next episode, that table is clean. I want you to leave me a comment and say, good job. Cause I need that... to live, okay? Thank you. We now have a social contract. Praise me if I clean that desk. Thank you!”
💬 "There's operations happening in our brain, and standards of what a workspace should look like and function like. So that's part one, is identify those standards and assumptions. How to Eliminate Guilt & Shame in Your Creativity | #123
Welcome, Sunshine, to our first April episode! Did you know that April isn't just about blooming flowers and fresh starts? It's my birthday month AND also Autism Awareness and Acceptance Month, a time to embrace diversity and understanding. (yay, #celebrate)
Today, our spotlight shines on a familiar struggle: the sneaky duo of guilt and shame that can creep into our creative adventures. But fear not! We're here to lighten the load and help you navigate these choppy waters.
Why do these pesky emotions tag along with our creativity? And more importantly, how can we kick them to the curb and let our creative spirits soar? Whether it's fear of the blank canvas or hesitation to put pen to paper, we've got you! Guilt and shame have no power here.
Key Points:
Understanding Guilt vs. Shame: Caitlin differentiates guilt (a response to actions) from shame (an encompassing sense of being ‘bad’) and their impact on creativity.
The Need for Creativity: Discover why creativity should be viewed as a fundamental need, akin to spirituality or community, rather than a luxury or afterthought.
Combat Shame with Self-Acceptance: Learn how shifting your perspective from proving yourself through art to creating for the sake of beauty can dissolve shame.
External Expectations vs. Self-Judgement: Caitlin encourages listeners to dissect whether their self-criticism stems from their own beliefs or the imposed beliefs of others.
You Will Learn:
The significance of adapting programs to better serve the neurodivergent community.
The benefits of small cohort sizes in fostering meaningful critique and support within a workshop setting.
The entrepreneurial mindset of embracing change and growth for the betterment of all involved.

3 Major Roadblocks to Finishing Your First Draft | #119
Welcome back, sunshine, to another fun-filled episode of the Neurodivergent Creative Podcast!
As we dive into the complexities of writing and creativity, remember this - YOUR story is meant to be told authentically FOR YOU, and not to appease someone else's ego or somebody else's expectations.
Tune in to this episode, where we'll expand on how you can uncover the 3 major roadblocks that are stopping you from finishing your first draft. So, buckle up, neurosparkly storytellers, you’re in for a wild (and necessary) ride!
Episode Highlights:
✅ The importance of writing for yourself, not for the imagined expectations of others.
✅ Strategies for navigating the roadblocks of comparison and distraction on your creative journey.
✅ How to embrace the chaos of your first draft and turn it into a stepping stone towards your ultimate storytelling goals.
Noteworthy Quotes:
💬 “You gotta get over the fact that not everybody's gonna like your book. You're not gonna impress everybody. You're not gonna be the genre for everybody. You're not gonna be the style or the voice for everybody… but people-pleasing is what’s gonna cock block your book.”
💬 “If you write a book for somebody else, it's gonna fall flat. It's not gonna feel good, and people are gonna be able to tell that it's fake; that you wrote it with somebody else's experience in mind, as opposed to writing it because you had to write it. So, remember, first draft, you're telling YOURSELF the story!”
💬 “YOUR story's not for other people. You gotta say, ‘The story's for ME, gotta write for ME!’”
💬 “There is one thing that I want you to take with you: The fact that your story matters and YOU deserve to write it down!”
💬 "Wherever you start is good enough to begin."
