Teachers, there are actually quite a few things you can do if you find yourself in a situation where you feel threatened by a student or when you're being physically hurt by a student.

Have you ever DREAMED of working in a school where the teachers are Supported and Appreciated?

It may seem like a school like this doesn't exist BUT it does...

Chatting with Kissie Montalvo, a teacher at Great Expectations Early Learning Center, in Sierra Vista, AZ was SO refreshing and exciting!

It was a great reminder that, even when life seems too hard and overwhelming, there are amazing people out there who are lifting, encouraging and SUPPORTING one another.

And when LEADERSHIP is supporting teachers in this way, school culture shifts in a MAJOR way and the trickle-down effect is massive.

Imagine a place where TEACHERS get massages and TIME during the day to reflect and re-sent mentally and emotionally...

Imagine a place where KIDS are learning emotional management skills AND their teachers are consistently modeling these skills for them...

As a parent, I could only HOPE that my children's teachers always feel supported and valued because I know how important their overall well-being is to setting up a safe environment where their students can TRULY thrive. 

I'm so grateful Kissie is sharing her story with us - the story of what it's like to work for a director and in a school community where RESPECT and WELLNESS is a priority.

If you're a teacher and you're frustrated at your current situation, PLEASE listen to this episode and hold onto HOPE that you, too, can find a place where you are treated with respect and wellness is a priority.

Self-care. 

What IS it?

For so many years, I thought Self-Care was doing things for myself - getting a massage, mani-pedi, hanging out with my girlfriends, going on a date.

But it turns out, most of what I THOUGHT was self-care was actually self-indulgence.

Self-care is creating a life we don't have to ESCAPE.

Whereas with self-indulgence, we're temporarily escaping the current reality.

When I first heard this shift (check it out!), it pretty mind-blowing.

It's no surprise that our teachers today are STRESSED.

Teachers cite a variety of challenges - from overwhelming amounts of work, unsupportive admin, challenging behaviors, and competing priorities... they just can't seem to find the time or ENERGY to get it ALL done. 

A recent study found that only 7% of the surveyed teachers rated themselves as having both low levels of stress and high levels of coping with their jobs. So, about 93% of teachers are STRUGGLING. And not only that but studies show that teacher's workplace stress and state of mental health are worse now than in 2015.

Sixty-one percent of the teachers said their work was always or often stressful. Over half agreed that they didn’t feel the same enthusiasm as when they started teaching. And many teachers reported experiencing poor health and being bullied at work — by superiors, colleagues, students, or parents — at rates far higher than are reported for other professions. And most said they are sleep-deprived.

When teachers quit due to stress, it costs billions to replace them.


Let's look at 5 reasons is CRITICAL to manage stress.

1. Contributes to 80-90% of all illness & disease (high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity and diabetes, headaches, an upset stomach, high blood pressure, chest pain,)

2. Can cause SLEEP issues

3. Often shows up as Physical Pain 

4. It weighs us down - Stress is a heavy burden

5. #1 Reason so many teachers are leaving the profession every single year


Finding effective ways to manage STRESS is critical for teachers who are interested in optimizing their health & performance and STAYING in the classroom.
